- consider before buying- July 20, 2017
These sensors sound like a quick, inexpensive, and easy fix for the problems associated with having Hue lights in key areas/rooms of your home like the master bathroom, but not wanting to constantly carry your phone around everywhere to control these lights, buy a voice smart home hub (Alexa, Google Home, etc.), and/or buy a bunch of Phillips dimmer switches (which do not match most older homes outlet/switch sizes). So I bought one to fix my issue above (just wanted a configurable control method for lights in key, heavily trafficked room that did not require device-in-hand). Here's what I found and some things to consider before buying...Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
- Automate Your Hue Lights- November 17, 2018
I have two of these motion detectors to turn on my Hue light bulbs as I enter a space. I have one to light the lamp at the top of the stairway (with Hue bulb). It sees me as I start up the stairs and turns on. No more fumbling for a light switch especially when I am carrying something. I programmed it to shut off after a short time. The other is in my dining room to light the way to the living room or front door. I love these. In addition, I think they would be a good safety feature for a senior citizen or disabled person. The sensor must be used with a Hue bulb/bridge and requires in home wireless service. It links to the Hue app on your smartphone.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
- Finally, motion sensing for Hue- October 19, 2016
I'm thrilled with the performance and flexibility of these devices. The embedded light sensor allows you to control what motion triggers in both lit and dim conditions via the app. Going to buy a few more. I had someone ask me a question, which at first surprised me then I realized that it might not be entirely obvious to everyone looking at these and comparing them to old-school motion detectors on lights - you can trigger lights and actions in places other than where the motion detector is physically located - since it's not physically tied to the lights in the room where it is placed. I know, seems obvious, but maybe not to some.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
