More Information

Realistic 4K Picture

  • 4K Ultra HD resolution with industry-certified performance showcases picture in 4x the detail of Full HD. When you're watching a 4K travelogue about Costa Rica on YouTube, all the brilliance of the native wildlife will pop with detail. See every shade of colour and variation in texture as tropical fish negotiate a lush coral habitat.
  • Pixel Plus Ultra HD picture processing technology brings out natural, realistic, and vivid-looking content. As the YouTube travelogue pans across a sandy Costa Rican beach shaded by lush green palm trees, you'll be swept away by the scene's realistic beauty.
  • Think you're limited to native 4K content? Think again. The TV's 4K upscaling engine boosts HD content to near-4K quality, so you can watch cable TV, your DVD collection, and more in better-than-you've-seen picture.

Smooth motion and vibrant colours

  • 120 Perfect Motion Rate boosts pixel response times to reduce blur in fast-motion scenes. Of course, you won't miss a moment of that slow-moving sloth climbing the tree, but when a rattlesnake flicks its tongue at lightning-fast speeds, you won't miss a moment of that either.
  • See the colours of Costa Rica leap off the screen thanks to a micro dimming backlight. From the vibrant green rainforests to the multicoloured feathers of a parrot, you'll see dazzling colours, bright whites, and rich blacks.

Cinematic sound to match

  • Treat your ears to surround sound that matches the brilliant 4K picture. Dual 10-watt RMS speakers pump out a serene song that accompanies the YouTube travelogue, adding cinematic atmosphere that makes you want to visit Costa Rica even more.
  • When the narrator speaks about the history of Costa Rica, you'll hear him distinctly thanks to the TV's clear voice designed by sonic emotion.
  • Dolby Digital Plus creates a cinematic atmosphere with up to 7.1 discrete channels of hi-fi surround sound. Connect your own home theatre speakers to feel like you're sitting in the middle of a movie theatre when spellbound by the wonders of Costa Rica.

Smart entertainment choices

  • Chromecast is a technology that lets you cast your favourite entertainment from your phone, tablet or laptop right to your TV or speakers. Easily control your TV or speakers with apps you already know and love from your iPhone, iPad, Android phone or tablet, Mac or Windows laptop, or Chromebook.

Connectivity for now and the future

  • Built-in dual-band 802.11ac wireless with MIMO antennas ensure when you stream video from your desktop, tablet, or online, you don't suffer lag. The only slowdown you will experience is in the form of astonishing slow motion shots.
  • HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 on all HDMI ports means this TV is set for the future of 4K. HDMI 2.0 boosts bandwidth, while HDCP 2.2 creates a secure connection between your TV and home theatre component.

Good price, but poor quality

Bought this in the BestBuy store and the picture was great. Liked the price for a 4K, too! However, the wifi connection drops often and the most annoying feature is that the remote will not turn on the TV. It does work for volume and shutting it off?!?!?

Great TV

Well, here are my thoughts... Unboxing: 2.5/5 Like most tv's, the manufacturer leaves much to be desired. read it, but the online pdf manual is better and YouTube is always your friend. Fit/Finish: 4/5 The heavy metal legs are nice. Not the plastic a lot of others use. Personally, I would prefer a colour matched brushed metal rather than the contrasting nickel. Setup: 3/5 This is my first experience with a Chromecast tv. Make sure you have the app installed on your iOS or Android phone/tablet . It will ask you during the setup. DON'T skip and try later. The on-screen menu is very straight-forward. Menu options 4/5: Quite intuitive. Lots of options for sound and picture. Great that you're able to create different settings for each interface (HDMI, Cable, Chromecast, USB). Once connected, do a software update. Viewing experience: 5/5 The picture is spot on with the giants out of Korea and Japan. (I changed the picture setting from "normal" to a "Game" because it suits my room. There's about 7 options including Personal customization. The onboard speakers are a huge surprise. I thought it was my 320 watt LG soundbar! I think this brand doesn't get the respect in North America as it does in Europe so it's a low seller. it really is top-notch. The native 120hz, ac wifi, backlight with local dimming and multiple HDR settings at the much lower price point were my buying factors. Smart feature: Not sure I'm a Chromecast fan on this or any device. - Just another place for Google to harvest your life. Conclusion Nice to find out that once you "ChromeCast". You don't need your device to stay with the tv. Haven't tried the online support, but it can't be worse than Samsung which has to be the industry's worst. After a disappointing experience with high-end device and support from Sa___ng, I'm not brand faithful. Most parts are shared between manufacturers anyway. No different than Samsung chip-sets and Sony cameras in an iPhone.

Smart TV

You have to purchase chromecast. No apps are on this TV. IT IS NOT A SMART TV. Salesperson failed to tell me that. Must say, the picture is GREAT. DONT BUY IT, it has no smarts.

cast doesn't work

THe casting feature on this tv is terrible, i loose network alot which forces me to turn the tv off then back on again, very annoying. I know it is not my wifi because every other devices in the house works perfectly fine. I would not recomend this tv to anyone. Also it is not a smart tv so don't be fooled by that. it is a tv with chromecast built in..... not the same.

Bad for Gaming

GOOD to watch broadcast and movies, but gaming with XBOX ONE is very bad. You can see and feel the input lag. The most of input lag measurements fall in range [80-120] ms. As I do not hope Philips would fix the issue the TV went back to the store.

I like it

I purchased one of these sets on sale. In the store, The 49" and 55" units are IPS so don't expect ultra-high contrast. The screen has local dimming which does compensate for this. I didn't see much difference compared to the Sony X700D as far as picture quality and viewing angle, but I did not spend more than a few minutes comparing the two screens. Streamed a few 4K Youtube videos and they looked awesome. Hooked up as a PC monitor I was able to get 4K@60Hz okay so the HDMI is as specified. AMD graphics software shows 32bit color 60 Hz, but no YCbCr settings are available, and the couple of tests I ran suggests only 4:4:2 chroma subsampling A Philips rep originally told me it does both 4:4:4 YCbCr and 4:4:4 RGB so need to follow up on that. And I'm not a gamer so no idea about input lag... but the mouse response is just fine for use as a computer display. Colors look decent. Pretty sure this is an 8 bit panel but per the rep it's supposed to do 10 bit at 4:4:2 so I assume its software dithering to get the fuller color range. I don't have any "HDR' material or a player to try out how that looks, but there are settings for it (greyed out since I have no proper source to test it). Overall I am satisfied given the low price point.

Excellent tv

Philips is a well known Dutch brand and this tv does not disappoint. Many will choose Samsung, LG (similar shoppers pattern to wireless) however I chose Philips and I am happy with the purchase.

Do not purchase

TV purchased on Sept 1, 2016. worked for two months and has been inoperative since. Philips customer service is completely useless. TV shuts off within 15 seconds of being turned on. After weeks of waiting for an answer, was told to download a software update on usb and then upload on tv. Pointed out to rep on phone, that this would be a challenge if the tv did not stay on. Assured that it could be done. of course it could not. After 30 attempts i gave up and called the next day. Different person, same useless suggestion. Long waits on hold. Call centre is in the Philippines. Somebody supposed to call back before day ends. Will not hold my breath. I did purchase Geek Squad ported, but it only begins after the Manufacturer's warranty period is over. So Looks like I am in a holding pattern till then.

A Great Entry Level HDR 4k TV

For the person just getting into 4k and hdr this TV is a great option for a very reasonable cost. It has all the specs you want for use with the Xbox One S or PS4 Pro including a wide color gamut. It only has Chromecast but if you have consoles then a smart TV is unnecessary anyway.
