Fantastic Product, but not so easy to expand.

Further to my previous review,I have now expanded my Hue lighting throughout the house and reached the point where I could no longer operate with one bridge. One bridge is supposed to support 50 lights, but I started to experience problems once my network was up to 33 bulbs with 4 motion sensors and 9 dimmer switch units. Installing a second bridge was not difficult, but the second bridge cannot see any of the bulbs. Splitting my network into two logical groups (upstairs & downstairs) was difficult because you need to set up bulbs on the second bridge by entering the individual serial numbers for the bulbs. Once the bulbs were set up on the second bridge, installing dimmers & motion sensors was easy. The app works fine, but it is a bit of a pain having to switch bridges if I want to control lights on another bridge, even though it is on the same network. Just a glitch though, not really a problem because I tend to use the local dimmers for control anyway. I still rate this as a 5 Star system and remain a fan.

Bulbs cracked on arrival

Bought these online, surprisingly quick shipping. However, the bulbs are damaged on arrival, no bubble wrap, no cushioning in box. They just just threw it in with the other things without any kind of protection, these are light bulbs for goodness...

Fantastic product. The review scores speak volumes.

I have converted my entire house to Hue. I started because we were leaving the hall lights on (4 x 40W bulbs) just to provide some light outside my young daughter's bedroom. With 4 x 9.5W bulbs, I set it up with just one bulb on 50% power switching automatically on at sunset and off at sunrise. I estimate a 92% saving in power on just this one example. Overall I reckon the power consumption for lighting my house (a fairly average 4 bedroom house) has been reduced by around 70%. There is a fairly high setup cost, and I reckon on about a 2.5 year payback on my house, and after that it's all savings. Voice control via Siri is fun, but I'm not planning to expand on the voice control possibilities. My wife isn't into controlling the lights with a phone app, so in most rooms I fitted the dimmer switches, which takes the phone out of the loop completely. I control several areas that used to get left on (like the porch, the entrance lobby, and the back deck) with motion sensors. Setting up is incredibly easy. I had just one motion sensor that needed to be reset a couple of times before setup could be completed, and everything else was immediately detected by the app and set up with no issues. I have a couple of lights that use bulbs that Philips don't produce a Hue version for, but I am hoping that will change sometime in the future. Reliability seems to be very good. I have had one dimmer switch that needed to be reset and re-installed, but other than that I have had no issues. Most of my lights are the A19 white lights.I have some GU10 Spots, which seem to be very expensive for what they are, and the colour lamps are great fun but very expensive (I only have two rooms with colour lamps fitted). Apart from the high setup cost, the only other negative that I can come up with for this product is that Philips do not provide an app for Apple Computers, only for phones, There are some third party apps available for PC/Mac, but they seem to be more focused on using Hue lights as disco lights rather than basic Smart home control.

Not worth the price

These lights are fun to use, but NOT worth the price. if they were half of the price, ok.. Way too much money for what It's. Wait a little longer and price will go down!

slightly disappointed, but still cool product

one of the main selling features for me, as written on the box.. was it can sync with music... And it can, if you use a third party app (pay app, or a 'free' app with in app purchases and ads) the music sync was a big seller for me because It would amuse my kid.

Not up to expectations

Intentions are good. System works but there are some flaws. 1- automatisation and timers do not always work as i programmed it. Skips some timers. 2- lights are not as bright as i wanted. I have to buy 2 sets so it doubles the price. Yes, system is nice bit still need tweeking from philips and REALLY not enough lumens.

Quick easy setup, works just like it says, would recommend and will be adding more to my system in the near future, very impressed.

Easy setup, good interfaces, easy to program

I bought this starter kit, because my home-grown Windows program, written in HTTP and JavaScript, which controls multitudinous functions in my home, actuates through X10 hardware, which does not manage LED bulbs well. The Philips Hue system is exactly what I need, because it is extremely friendly to developers. After one registers on Philips’s Web site, one has access to full documentation about the system. For me, programming is even easier, because the hub has a simple sample HTTP and JavaScript program right in it, and I can integrate code snippets from that sample into my home-grown system with just evolutionary changes. The downloadable interface for Android devices is excellent too, and cooperates fully with home-grown programming.

Great for dynamic mood lighting!

Like the title says, this product is good for dynamic mood lighting. It's also easy to set up. Just plug in the bridge, put in your lights, turn them on and install the app, and you're good to go. The starter kit comes with 3 bulbs (you can buy more to expand the system later), a bridge and an Ethernet cable to connect the bridge to your Wi-Fi router. Each bulb puts out up to 800 lumens, though this will vary based on colour and brightness settings. Please note that this is the gen 3 starter kit. If you want deep greens and blues, make sure that the box says "richer colors" in the top-right corner. Gens 1 and 2 don't have as rich of a colour gamut, so keep this in mind.
