Broken Head band

They don't last. Poor design of light plastic it just snapped and a piece broke off. My son had his for less than a year he put them on his head and it just broke.

  • from Dorval, QC

Wears over time

Owned for 3 years now. Careful when hyperextending the headphone joints, the plastic will eventually give out and snap.

wont work and broke in 1 DAY

I bought these yesterday to play fortnite battle royal so I can cummunicate with other players but when I got them bad quality always bleeps out cant hear anyone or talk to anyone and the next day they would not work at all they have no durability and definitly not worth this huge cost if i could rate lower then 1 star i would do it at negative 20. recomend dollar store head phones over this trash.

Broken Hinge

I've purchased 2 of these headsets. They don't last. Poor design of light plastic hinge. Once the hinge breaks, the headset is useless.

  • from Vancouver, BC

Features don't work when wired

I bought these headphones thinking that you could hear other gamers speak in wireless mode, however that is not the case. So I had to make the headphones wired to hear other people. When they are wired, the mute button and the increase/decrease volume buttons don't work. Very frustrating and a bit misleading.

Great Headphones plus work with Windows 10

Picked these up on sale and they are excellent. Lots of bass if you want it and you can load game specific sound files into them. What was shocking was that on a whim I plugged the USB into my Windows 10 computer and the headphones worked, plug and play!!!! Now i have wireless headphones for my computer as well.

Great sound

Super soft on your ears Amazing sound quality

  • from Moncton, NB

Sounds greater than it lasts

The sound on this is pretty good, and the buttons are easy to access. I'd really like these headphones if I didn't have to repair them every other month. They are so fragile, thanks to having these awful hinges. They did not break from dropping them, no, they break from WEARING them. Awful quality, do not buy.

Break easy

I have to agree with breakage issue, at least mine did on the folding section, each side. I take care with these as I had broken cheaper gaming headphones so I spent xtra to avoid this. Useless to try and contact Sony. Great sound and connection but cannot stand up! Look elsewhere. Sony at least supply replacement parts and options!

  • from London, ON

Design flaw!

Good headset for electronics and sound. Design, although attractive, is flawed. The plastic hinge(s) fail way too easily. Two small plastic pins holding it together is ridiculous and futile. Unless this changes, we certainly will not be replacing a broken set with another that will fall victim to the same flaw!

  • from Brampton

Do not buy

Stay away from these they will break very easy

  • from Vancouver, BC

No Problems

Everyone seems to complain about the headset breaking. I'm a responsible adult and I have had it for 7 months with not a single issue at all, prior to that I had a PS3 Gold Headset for over 5 YEARS and it didn't break. As long as you take care of it, it will work for years to come.

They break too easily

I had my headset for four months, and initially I thought they were the best. They fit good, they sounded good, they were versitile, etc. Electronically they held up really well, and the sound quality met my expectations. However, it wasn't long before I noticed they were feeling a bit loose and I noticed that micro fissures started appearing just above where the the earcups fold inward. You can see in the product photo on the blue padding of the head band a hinge, and just above that there is a seam. Very rapidly these became cracks. A week later I started taping all the cracks up. 3 weeks later almost the entire head band was reinforced with tape. Now, another week later, I've been forced to tape a wire hanger along the outside of the headband to hold it together. Now to be fair, I use headphones very often, for my PS4 and PC, every day for several hours a day, for gaming, for movies, for music, for t.v. shows, etc. But honestly, I've had cheaper headphones that lasted longer.

Great headset

The Reviews I see about the breakages must be a bad batch cause I've had mine now for about 4 years with no problems. Great sound and comfortable. As far as I can tell the only warning I have is that you better like the color cause they'll be with you for a long time.

Pinches your ears and voice quality is poor for premium price

You are better off getting the cheaper silver pair. This headset which doesn't allow you to voice chat without listening to audio as well pinches after periods of long use has about 4 hours of play between charges, though it plugs into your computer and Xbox controller (if it has a 3. mm port and Wii U) The most disappointing aspect is that for the price your voice sounds tin-like when heard by others which hurts if you record gameplay for others or are anal about stuff like that, buy a silver headset or go very premium.

  • from why? Its a review not a party invitation.

Terrible quality headset

The headset provides great quality sound and includes a app to use with them. Though the hinges are complete trash with durability matching those of something you would find in the Dollar store. Due to this I would not recommend this headset to anyone wanting something that will last them for more then a couple months and if your lucky possibly to a year.

Great headset for Destiny

Much better than headset included with PS4. Must have for Destiny. Very little crackle and distortion when playing. Teammates will appreciate good headset. Great clarity and long charge, very comfy. Outperforms many other more expensive headsets. Wouldn't hesitate to buy again, and have recommended to friends.

Good sound quality for the price

Great sound, poor construction

I bought these for my boyfriend a year ago. He loved them, but the plastic hinges have just cracked off and the head phones dangle and are useless. So If you want something with great sound that will only last a year, buy these.

Fantastic Product!

Great head phones, great sound, I don't like playing without them anymore! I give 5 stars!

  • from Toronto, ON

Poor quality

Most reviews commented about the quality of the hinges. I agree 100%. I rarely used my headset but the hinges broke within 3 months. The sound is fantastic however. That said; I strongly do not recommend purchasing this product.

  • from Ottawa

Within a month of buying both ear phones fell off and are literally being held on by duct tape. I took super good care of it to- in the box after every use. Wouldn't recommend....complete trash. Dollar store head phones have more durability.

  • from P.E.I.

Poor Design

This headset provides exceptional sound and even has an App to support it. However the design of the headset causes it to crack and break along the headband. Now it's unwearable. This occurs after only about 9-10 months. Disappointing being that it's an official Sony product.

  • from Toronto, ON

Poor quality head band and hinges

These were good sound quality headphones until head band broke after 12 months of usage. Used epoxy to glue them. It worked for 1 month, after hinges broke. Unusable. Do not recommend at all.

ear cushions deteriorate

I have had no issues with sound or with the mic itself or anything to do with the hinges and band BUT the pleather or whatever covers the foam for the ear cushions have been slowly but aggressively peeling off leaving little bits of black crud on around my head and ears. I took extra care of my stuff. i still have the first wireless headset Sony made for the PS3 which has louder sound and more user friendly control settings. For the price I do not recommend this product.

Fell apart after one year

I was SO surprised at what became of this seemingly perfect headset! I made the investment in them thinking I'd be set for life. It was the official PlayStation headset. The top of the line. For the year that it was intact, it was beyond great. I believe I even gave it a five star review on this very website. Unfortunately, I spoke too soon. Just a month or two after the one-year warranty was up, the plastic head band cracked in TWO places. Unusable. I managed to duct tape the pieces together, and although it was unsightly, I thought they'd be okay. Then, just a week ago, the hinge on the left side gave up, and now the left ear cup just dangles from its wire. That was the last straw, and I've now given up on them. Overall, it looks like a pretty sorry sight. Definitely NOT what I expected from Sony PlayStation! (Note: All of the inner wiring is still intact, and in that respect, they are still excellent. It's just the design of the chassis that is so bafflingly disappointing.) The thing is, I'm EXCEPTIONALLY gentle with my possessions, especially technology. I never so much as took them off hastily, never mind abuse them in any way. From the look of them now, you'd think they were owned by some reckless brute for 20 years. I just don't understand how they fell apart on me like this. Sorry, it's just upsetting even thinking about it. I got in contact with a Sony representative about them, and although they couldn't repair/replace my set after the warranty expired, he sympathized that they are in fact quite fragile (he had a set of his own). So, although they were at first very promising, this was definitely a waste of money, and I won't be buying them again or recommending them to anyone. I just don't get it.

Adds to the PS 4 experience

I bought these after my Turtle Beach headphones had been replaced 3 times and broke again in the exact same spot...the ear cup snapped right off. It was not from bending it or any misuse, or abuse...just cheap materials. It made me pause as that set was quite expensive. Anyway, I shopped around and saw Best Buy had such an amazing price on these Gold Wireless Headphones that I had to give them a shot as I had them recommended to me earlier. So far, I have not been disappointed. The charged set works far beyond any time I have allotted to play in the short time I have had it. I don't know how rugged this is, but I don't ever tend to test that with any of my equipment anyhow. The sound is definitely several steps up and was a noticeable improvement in games like Uncharted 4, The Division and The Witcher. They bring spatial quality and depth of field as well as expanded tonal range. Sony provides a free app you can download that lets you add another equalizer setting to the Headphones or you can create your own from scratch. The wireless feature is amazing. I already have the same set in a wired version but one side started cutting in and out so I trashed them. This set has the microphone concealed so there is nothing to move or bend out of the way. The Gold set appears to be a great value thus far. If this set falls apart after a year I will return them with a boisterous complaint. What is up with these companies wanting our money but selling equipment with faulty materials and workmanship? I really hope this is not the case here as these sound so good for gaming and like I said add a whole new dimension to your favorite games.

Very poor quality headband and hinges

First the hinges cracked on the left side. I glued them. After 3 months the head band cracked . This headset is made of a very poor quality plastic. Lost invoice so couldn't claim under warranty. Usable life of the headset is around one year.

  • from Brampton, ON

Do not buy!

I have purchased the headset less than a year ago and do not abuse it, both the hinges are broken and I have just cracked the band. The headset is made of a cheap plastic and is not worth the money. Do not buy the Sony Gold Wireless Headset.

  • from Victoria, BC

Incredible for the price

These headphones work great with everything. I use them for playing games on my Playstation 4 and PC and they seriously improve the entire experience. They come with a USB bluetooth dongle that is pretty much compatible with everything. If you are out of charge or would just prefer to not use the bluetooth they also come with an AUX cable that you can use without even turning them on.

Cracked Headband

So, I have had this headset for maybe a year. I have been very careful with it, never dropping it, stepping on it or whatever other accident you might imagine. After seeing reviews of broken folding areas I also stopped folding the headset shortly after getting it. As a result (possibly) I had no issue with this. However, the headband itself just cracked out of nowhere one day. I had not noticed any crack developing or anything of the sort. I suppose all of the bending the stiff plastic endures from being worn and taken off just led to this. I am quite disappointed in the lifespan of this headset compared to the lifespan of these to my X11s I used on X360. In short, it is still a nice headset. A little heavy. Battery life is okay. Plastic headband prone to cracking. Nice features. Wireless is definitely nice. No complaints about the audio. Just be very delicate with it.

does exactly what it says

i bought these headphones out of interest in 7.1 surround sound. yes, it's technically "surround sound" but you won't get the immersive effects you get with real speakers. the headphones are fine, good quality sound compared to other high end headphones i have. i suppose they are a little flimsy, as the other reviews have pointed out, but unless you're going out jogging with them they shouldn't break, and considering you need the usb plugin for it to connect to anything they shouldn't really leave the house again.

  • from Ontario

My first year with this headset was lovely. The sound quality was great and I often used it to plug into my iPhone and listen to music for a very engaging experience. But even with careful use. The headset began to fall apart where it folds. It broke to soon and for inadequate reason considering the high price. I at least got it on sale. I also bought a warranty without realizing it was cash back, they don't replace it (this is Geeksquad) so I only get back the money paid which is not enough to buy another one of these headsets. My experience with this product has gone from great to very bad quickly.

Don't buy

Side folding hinges break easily. Also the audio and mic quality are not very good.

Just get these if you are a ps4 console user

Don't waste your money on anything else. These are surround sound headphones designed by Sony specifically for the PS4 obviously. They also work on a pc. It has an app for equalizer sound settings (more bass, techno, shooter games, movies, etc.). It has separate volume controls for chat and game sound. All your controls are on the ear cup which has a built in hidden microphone. They are very comfortable, they fold, the ear cup moves up and down for length. They give you a two way 3.5mm jack to plug into your controller if battery runs out, also you can use it with your mobile device with the same cord. They charge with a usb cable (the same one that charges android devices). And best of all they sound great and for the price you cant do any better. Also right now you can get an uncharted 4 designed headset which is a nice pale blue and black (with a Latin proverb written on it) vs the black and dark blue scheme. Gotta like it for the collector edition type aspect.

I love it!

PROS: - Great sound - Compatible with PC (and my Tablet. Have to buy OTG cables so i could use the USB device which comes along with the headset.) - Wide signal (I can go downstairs to get food and still hear the music from my PC in my room.) - Mic is good. CONS: - Plastic quality - Not so-comfortable to my ears (for me only) - Kinda heavy to wear for a long time. - Needs extra care cause it looks breakable. Overall I like this headset!

  • from Surrey, BC

the sound quality is very good but it looks like a toy and it breaks very easily where the sides fold in. Also the mic quality is not good

  • from Kelowna, BC

Great Headset

I have had this headset for over a year, and it is still as amazing as the day I purchased it. I use it very regularly and it has never let me down. I look after my belongings and have no complaints about construction of the headset. I also charge it as soon as I am done playing and get an average of 12 to 14 hours of game play on a single charge. If you want more than that this headset will still fully function if plugged in to charge with a micro USB charging cable. The Playstation app to adjust settings is cool but you really only use it once and forget about it. Overall I am really happy with the headset, surely beats my friends turtle beach or any headsets they have purchased all without a goofy external mic boom. Buy this headset you will not be sorry. If you are thinking about the pulse elite from Sony think again, it has nothing but problems.

  • from Montréal, QC

Amazing sound for a music/gamer lover

I bought it after getting a deffective headset for my PS4 from a very known competitor, I wasn't sure about it, when the salesman told me it will last only 5 hours of playing, I was dissapointed, however after trying them out, it lasted 7 hours and surprinsingly I discover by mistake it also works as a regular wired headset(passive mode) with the supplied cable came with. it does have a pretty good sound quality, deep basses for regular music in this mode(passive mode), where you don't actually have to turn them on to work with, meaning no battery will be use. I will work with any ipad, ipod or iphone or any sound device with a standard 1/8 plug. As a PS4 headset it works amazingly and it does provide a 7.1 sound (in surround mode). I highly recommended this pair of headset for any kind of use.

  • from Burnaby, BC

Great sound , good comfort, so so battery length

They sound great and I like that you can upload custom sound settings for some games using the free app. ( the Bloodborne setting is a stand out ). You do have to plug them into the console everytime you want to change an upload however which is a bit annoying. The only caveat I can attest to is that I get only about 4 hours on a battery charge . Seems to me it should be more than that. Otherwise they seem fine. Worth picking up if you can get them on sale.

A great headset above other expensive ones.

I bought the PS4 Gold Headset for its sound especially its surround and clear sound. It has realistic sound with the action games I looked at other PS4 Headsets and other expensive ones but I like the Gold better. I also bought the 20th Anniversary set. .

Great sound/comfort

Don't know why everybody is saying bad things about this Because I've had mine for about 5 months now and it's great

Great headset. It works with my PS4 and PC. Pretty good battery life. I am very happy.

  • from Langley, BC

Not very good choice for a long term headset

The sound- The volume felt weirdly low, and the bass was certainly sub par compared to other headsets such as tritton, but the surround sound was very good on it Comfort- Felt very nice to wear- that is, if it was in one piece. the headband seemed to have some sort of glued together seems on it. after about a year of taking good care of it, it broke on both sides- right on the band above the part where it folds. The PS3 wireless stereo headset felt much more sturdy than this. The Mic- the mic was a horrible design flaw. They tried to make it more appealing compared to the PS3 headset by making the mic not stick out at all, and instead place it inside the left part of the headset. this made it sound as if you were inside of a cardboard box. when I was in a call with a friend, he thought I was joking when I said I got a new headset, certainly a downgrade from the last model. The wireless- The connection on it was pretty good in most places in my house, but once again they did the same thing- they made the re-charge cord so short that you can't use the headset while charging it. It runs out of battery quite frequently, so I wanted to use the wireless I'd have to go and buy a longer recharge cord. I ended up just plugging it in with the other wire they provided, which was also very short., so I didn't get to see much of the wireless function. All in all, it felt like a downgrade from the PS3 wireless stereo headset, and even if you get that, make sure to buy a longer cord for charging.

  • from ON

Good but bad

I loved this headset, but the mic quality is horrible, so bad I had to return it. It sounded clear, but like I was in the other room. I tried lots of different things and couldn't get it fixed, so I think it's just how it is designed. I returned it and got a Tritton instead.

Good for PC as well as PS3 and PS4

I got one on BestBuy flash sale last month and waited a until now to post a review. The good: 1) The sound isolation is excellent, and is very comfortable. 2) With the dongle connected to a Windows 7 PC it recognize and work flawless! 3) The mic and sound (stereo for PC. The 7.1 feature is only available for PS3/4) are really good when using Skype. 4) I work on meetings all day and the battery never run out on me (I leave charging during my lunch time and when I'm offline... so at least 4h straight on meetings I assure it works). 5) For the PS, my son uses it to play Minecraft and he can hear properly the enemies.... no major complain from him, but I can not put comments here regarding play experience with it. The bad: 1) on the begin, to get used to the big and "heavy" headset (I used only earbuds before), but after a week or so I got totally used to it... need time to adapt this new stile. 2) the volume buttons are in the back but easy to access... 3) and there is no L or R indicator on the device... so many times I flip the channels. No difference in case of my Skype calls, but for sure a problem when playing games) 4) It is NOT possible to connect as a regular BT device (discover mode is VSS + MUTE, followed by power 2, but works only to sync with other Sony dongle). Sure you can use it with the cable (same idea for the PSVita system), I DO RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT.

  • from Winnipeg, MB

Great sound, bad construction

Great audio, great mic, great comfort... but the headband is poorly made. It lasted 3 months of careful babying and still broke so I had to wrap mine in packing tape. With the packing tape though, it's lasted 8 more months. still recommended though; it is a fantastic headset. Just poorly built

Breaks at Hinge

Sound ok. Very convenient with wireless. Plastic broke at hinge after 5 months of normal use. Needed to bind with electrical tape to keep using.
