After 3 years, just out of warranty, the sub started making humming and heart beat noises. A quick google search revealed that this is a systemic problem with this product. Do your research, purchase something different.
Like Paul from Ottawa says the amplifier is only good for about three years, mine started making pulsing noises, with no input, at about 40 months which was four months out of warranty.
If yours lasts longer than three years consider it a bonus.
I bought a second PSW 125 about one year after the first so it will be interesting to see how long it lasts its warranty expires April 2018.
Up until the problem with the oldest speaker I loved them.
In 3 years the amplifier will be humming. Do a search on psw125 amplifier replacement and you will know all.
I've had 4 subs through the years and the Polk PSW125 ranks as the absolute worst amongst the bunch. The PSW125 provides bloated, ill defined and exaggerated bass. When it finally broke, one month after the warranty expired, I didn't bother to get a quote on getting it repaired. I was glad to have an excuse to buy another sub. Ending up getting the KEF Q400 and couldn't be happier.
The bass is clean, deep and makes movies/music come to life. I have this in a small appartment, can't say how it sounds in large environments or at loud volumes. This thing is ridiculously big and offers way more sound than I needed...I love it! Definitely feel like I've got my money's worth at the price I paid. Hopefully it'll last in the long run. Awesomesauce!!!
I have 2 of these and these things hit pretty darn low, sounded better when I crossed over my floor standing speakers (RtiA9) from full range to 80hz, they are quite a bit big though. To remove the grills use a sharp knife carefully around all the edges slowly, nice quality woofer as well. Though they do sound slightly muddy but still in the tuning process with them, placement is very easy with these, if you're an interested buyer you may be pleased by these.
Superb Subwoofer.........my bothersome neighbour at the cottage is getting some payback now........from 5:00 pm right up to 10:55 pm (noise by-law kicks in at 11:00 pm)....every night. YaHoooooo.
Purchased this sub on a flash sale. Works great. Has great sound & easy to connect to my Yamaha home theatre amp. Had to do minimal adjustments on AVR to get sound I wanted. Highly recommended.
This is a great sub woofer found at a very reasonable price. I am so happy with the results compared to my older 10" (not Polk) speaker. This is an excellent match to my Rti-A9 Polk tower speakers. The only faut is that the manual does not seem up-to-date and is short on info. The pictures do not even match the back panel on the speaker and there is no explanation of how one of the switches works. But you can go on-line and get tips from other users.
Great purchase with the R50s!!!
I purchased this sub to add to my surround system which I'm using an eight inch jbl , this sub is answering very well makes my television looks twice it's size (47inch) I know I get my money's worth. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who's looking to upgrade or even first timer's. ...
This is my first sub woofer and has really improved my listening experience after buying it a year ago. Initially, I found some guidelnes for subwoofer setup on internet and placed it accordingly. It works in conjunction with a pair of 2-way 8" acoustic suspension speakers via the sub's crossover. The room is small - 13 ft by 11 ft and the sub sounds like there is a peak at around 50Hz. The 2-ways reach to about 45Hz and don't seem to display this peak as much. Irregardless,in recordings there is an ambience of lower bass sounds (when present) that brings my system much closer to the sound of a jazz band in a club or a classical orchestra concert. Amazing low bass on a re-release of a 1959 recording of Beethoven's 7th Symphony (Cleveland Orchestra, George Szell). I couldn't believe how much bass was recorded on the original tape! My bass-thin recordings still sound thin, but the good recordings have really improved. This sub woofer was such a great purchase - love it!
So far so good. My sub is still in the break-in period and the sound quality keeps improving. It is powerful - probably more "boom" than you would need for a regular home theater setup. It is sturdy and well built, but I have to say that it is big - very big. Make sure you refer to the dimensions to ensure you have the proper space available. One other thing; I also bought 2 bookshelf speakers from Polk (RTIa1) and assumed that this subwoofer would have the same high quality wood finish but it does not. It still is well built and looks good, but don't expect the natural wood like the bookshelf speakers, that's all. Will definitely continue buying Polk Audio products.
Pick this sub up to replace a Boston Acoustic sub.it was a 10in that performed great until the internal amp fried, which I repaired, then shortly after the coil went. I have two young kids (6 and 4) which abused the cabinet of the BA Sub. I purchased this one, not spending a whole lot of money on, on sale, and was not expecting much; however it performs great, sounds great, and time will tell how it holds up. Great product would suggest to anyone looking for a good sub for an excellent price, on sale!
So far we really like the amp the sub woofer we watch a lot of concerts and it filled the room very nicely and our rumpus room is 15 ft by 20 ft , so I would recommend it especially for the price it's in a very nice product .
This product is excellent value for the money. My left and right speakers are Paradigm and since I added this wonderful sub woofer my entire systems sounds much more transparent (clear) than before. I have a cat and the metal grill on this unit is useful in preventing punctures by cat claws. Indeed, I am now considering Polk Left and right front speakers. Good quality - good sound - good price!!
Bought this and a receiver during their Boxing Day Week sale. Totally satisfied with both.
My main speakers both have a 10" woofer, and they do a pretty adequate job at lows. This sub has extended that low range a lot ! I've set it fairly subtle, and it fills the room very nicely, and my surround sound has never sounded better.
Very happy with this little monster !
Not much to say no complaints. The subwoofer works great I would for sure recommend to anyone wanting to upgrade love it!
Gives an extremely goo bass sound to our surround system which includes 2 ceiling speakers , and center left and right which are matching paradigm.
I have nothing but praise for the sound of this subwoofer. I purchased it mainly for a home recording studio which it is performing well beyond my expectations but just to get an idea of its sound, I did connect it to my home theatre and was very impressed. My only previous subwoofer was an ages-old Pioneer monster speaker: So big that it's used as a giant end table. And it's nice and rumbly but it's also muddy. Not this Polk speaker though. I didn't realize that a sub could sound so clear and defined. I would suggest giving it a try because it has impressed me greatly.
Impossible to beat the value of this sub when on boxing week sale. Excellent sound quality, awesome power at volume, would highly recommend. You will need some fairly large speakers and a good receiver to run them to keep up with the output from this sub though.
Great sound made my room come alive didn't realize how much it enhanced the sound.
Great sounding sub !! Not much else to add except that I got it at a very good price at Boxing day sale. I highly recommend it if you have room for this beast...
Don't forget to break in your speakers people! Once this gets worked in it responds exactly as you'd hope. I sometimes run my Bass guitar through this unit. It's just what the doctor ordered. buy it.. just buy it.
bottom feet are the only weak point, no biggie though
Just put together a new home theatre surround sound package and had to replace the original subwoofer. Picked a Polk. Nice and powerful, but clean. I own 2 Subwoofers that are Polk. They are similar. Very good. Have no issues recommending these speakers for a medium to large size home theatre surround system.
Dec. 21'15 Works Great With My Pioneer ELITE Receiver & BOSE Spkrs.
I have this brand and it performs flawlessly.
I love my subwoofer it's a bam
I buy this sub and believe me guys im really satisfied for the bass. Its a nice unit highly recomended
I used onkyo skw540 sub.but that not satisfied me.no punch. i buy new polk sub after more reserches. i am happy and recommend with confidence this sub.
Boomy, unable to reach low frequencies. I think Polk makes all of their subwoofers as loud as possible to get new people to say "wow!"
Once you listen for awhile you notice how bad this thing sounds. Completely overpriced as well.
better off ordering a better brand (BIC, NXG, etc) online.
I just bought this subwoofer to use with my onkyo receiver and i tested it out and it delivered powerful, deep and clear bass for my home theater system. I love this subwoofer!!
This is the best sounding sub I have had so far. It has excellent sound quality for music. When watching videos in DTS it really shakes the room
i absolutely love this sub woofer amazing sound and a great value!!!
excellent sound , price ,size .
The sound is great, the design is good and the sub is protected by the grill not to be damage accidentally or by children. This sub is the BEST in everything.
For the price, this is a very good sounding (and feeling) sub. You can really feel the bass this puts out, and even at very high levels, there's no distortion. I bought this and a 12" Klipsch, and preferred the Polk. The Polk has a smaller cabinet, and to me, a cleaner sound.
