See who's there with the Ring Video Doorbell. Battery operated and WiFi enabled, it lets you view live HD video, hear audio, and communicate using your compatible smartphone or tablet -- from anywhere. It features motion sensors that detect movement up to 30 feet, sends you automatic alerts, and stores recorded footage to the cloud.

More Information

You're comfortably in bed enjoying a movie when someone rings your doorbell. Your smartphone not only lets you know, but lets you see streaming HD video live from your Ring Video Doorbell. It's the delivery you've been waiting for, finally. Too bad you're currently in a hotel -- in a different time zone.

Good thing this smart doorbell does more than just make noise. With the push of a button you speak to the delivery driver and let him know to leave it with the neighbour.

That was easy. That's convenient.

And then there's security. With built-in motion detection up to 30 feet, night vision, instant mobile alerts, and automatic video recording to the cloud, you've got awareness and evidence of activity near your front door, whether someone rings or not.

And since you can not only hear but speak and be heard from anywhere, you can appear to be home, even when you're not.

  • HD camera: See what's happening with a clear, wide-angle view of your home's entrance in high definition, 24/7 thanks to night vision.
  • Mobile monitoring via WiFi: Connected to your home WiFi network, it can stream live video to your compatible smartphone or tablet via the free iOS or Android Ring app -- even when you're not at home, wherever you've got an internet connection.
  • Motion detection: Built-in motion sensors detect movement up to 30 feet and trigger instant mobile alerts via the Ring App.
  • Two-way communication: Hear what's happening and be heard clearly, with a microphone featuring echo cancellation and two configurable speakers.
  • Cloud recording: Automatically save triggered video recordings to the cloud and review from your Ring app.
  • Easy installation: All tools are included to mount the Ring in just minutes. Then just use the Ring app to connect to your WiFi network.
  • Dual-power options: Uses a built-in rechargeable battery, or can be powered using your existing doorbell wiring.
  • Certified for outdoor use: A weather-resistant design with an operating temperature range from -20C to 40C prevents damage from the elements

Only lasted a year in Toronto

When it was working, it was great! Encountered some WiFi issues initially but once I moved my router the connection was good and performance was as advertised. Motion alert is triggered easily but there are some instances where it wasn't working at all when someone walked right up in front of it. I bought this in December 2017 and in November 2018 I started encountering issues. At first I thought the battery was going but it turns out the whole unit is malfunctioning. After trying to trouble shoot the problem with support through December into January, I think it's toast. So it lasted just around 1 year from purchase, I'm seeing if Ring is able to warranty it for me at this point since the problem was occurring prior to the warranty ending or if I'm out of luck. Ultimately, the technology is good but hardware at this price range is going to fail being expose to the elements 24/7 in Canada. I'm in Toronto, and we've had mild winters both years, so I doubt this thing would hold up in colder winters in other parts of Canada.

Way Better Options Than Ring!

Do what I didn't, a quick web search on these doorbells and you will find quickly that Ring is by far the worst of the bunch, even if you don't mind paying for storage. 1. Every other major brand provides some sort of free option for video storage, not Ring. 2. Many other major brands offer API an integration beyond connecting to the paid cloud service, not Ring. 3. I've done a ton of testing, and Ring has purposely coded into their app a block to the video feed when the doorbell is rung if you don't pay for service. That's correct. Open the app and click live view, no problem. Close the app, ring the doorbell, open the app and click live view. Fail every time! This device is not worth the plastic it made from. Garbage!

Battery only last a year and expensive to use after trial

Would not recommend the Ring to anyone. The Battery only last a couple days after year in use. Also you can't review the videos taken by Ring after the initial trial period unless you pay heavy monthly fee.

Hello Ring, I am looking to purchase for outside my apartment door. Will it show the video of 180 in the hallway?

  • from Flin Flon, MB

Poor quality

The idea is good but does not work in Canadian winter. It also takes so long to upload video that the person is long gone. Very disappointing!

Perfect with parameters correctly choosen!

It's always same ways like "smartphone" : Phone is smart not user! People said "too bad" or doesn't works because they don't know to choose right parameters. There's few parameters but it works fine with movements detection. It's the secret. if you don't enable movement detection, it's too long and you miss delivery... Of course! 720p resolution quality is enough for my usage and take less bandwidth than higher model 1080p (faster in 720p) i used for 1 year.

Perfect Peace of Mind

I'm so happy that we bought this! It works like a dream, is easy to set up and makes me feel much more secure. It's also great for when a package is delivered and you aren't home and can talk to the delivery person.

Ring Live View Issues

Spent hours with tech support swapping firmware updates, firewall settings and rebooting over and over. I don't think the technology is quite there to push these units out. It's really a hit or miss whether your unit will work or not.

This product is basic at best. It was good for the time it came out but, now it low quality. There are no pro's. I guess if you had nothing for secuity, its something. Con's are many: image quality, reaction time, night vision, image ratio, device size, not so Live View etc....

Slow response & doesn't work in cold weather

It takes 20-30 seconds for the video to be available on your smartphone - too long if you're wanting to see who's at the door. At temperatures below -20C, the device stops working altogether.

terrible product / worst customer service ever. they dont even respond

got this item a week ago after watching all their false advertising. from the very first day of set up and install I had issues. it wasn't connecting to my internet. was more like off and on and I couldn't even view videos or live view when away from my house. I called their customer service and they went bla bla bla.. so I got a chime pro. worked for a few hours and stopped again. called again and went through the whole process again. they couldn't figure out why it wasn't working. yesterday I had a guest outside my house for 10 mins and we had no idea because the doorbell and motion stopped working. sent them emails and facebook messages and no response till now. it is surely going back to best buy. worst service and product ever.

Monitoring costs

The product itself is great, works as advertised. The app works well too. BUT after 60 days I am being told that I need to pay a monitoring fee to have the remote video and audio function continued. NOT impressed, as I don't see anywhere that this is mentioned.

Worst buy ever

Not worth a damn and can't even get tech support any more... DON'T BUY THIS!!!!

  • from Regina, SK

Not Meant for Canadians! Doesn't work under 0 degree weather conditions.

Works great hardwired in as long as the weather never dips down, as soon as it does the battery will die. This device should not even be sold to Canadians. It sucks and their customer service knows it too. Good service but can't do anything about the lithium ion battery not working in the cold. Big thumbs down. They need to provide a hardwired one without the need for a transistor and a bunch of know how to do it on your own. May try the Nest version and see if its any better. Don't buy the Ring!

Sometimes doesn't work

It's not consistent. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't especially the motion detection.

Not Made For Alberta Winters

I installed the ring doorbell in mid December, I had to recharge the battery 3 weeks later. We are currently having a cold spell from Dec 24 to Dec 30 of -25 to -30. The live view and doorbell does not work and the battery needed to be recharge after 5 days. I contacted ring support twice and they really could not help and stated cold weather will affect the operation of the camera and battery. The doorbell did not work for a few days Due to the -25 C temperature. I brought the doorbell into the house and had to reconfigure the settings and recharge. I have had it for about 5 weeks and it has been frustrating and thinking about returning to store.

Useless in winter

I've had my ring for a year now and it's useless in winter. I wouldn't buy another one, and if you live in the west especially you should save your money. Mine is wired so battery not the problem. Ring needs to invent some kind of built in heating system, then it would be a success here in the cold.

  • from Winkler, MB

app is bad

the app is not working right doesn't connect to video and video quality is very bad even with good WI-FI

  • from Calgary

Not worth it....

This piece of equipment really let me down. The motion sensor trips every time a car drives by on the far side of the street , but wouldn't activate when someone dropped off a package on the top step. 1/5 would not buy again

Ring, I so wanted our Relationship to work, But its not about you.

Install went fairly easily. I pre checked my wifi with my cell phone at the install location. It showed very good, but the ring once installed showed poor. Live view took about 10 seconds to kick in, making it far too slow to be of any use when someone approaches the door. I purchased a Chime Pro to alleviate the problem but while it improved the wifi signal strength, the live view was even worse. I can only assume that because the Pro actually rebroadcasts that it makes the lag actually worse. I did communicate with Ring on this and other aspects of the item. I gave them my internet provider’s figures and they said that the Ring needs greater than 1 MBPS upload speed to work as designed. I have 3 x D-Link cameras in my home and they all respond instantly to movement when switched to monitor mode, and live view with them is pretty much instantaneous, so I am left wondering why such a great idea for front door security requires so much more bandwidth than the D-Link Cameras. I really wanted the door bell to work, and with 4 holes left in my vinyl siding to remind me of the failed experiment, I offer one more criticism of the device that I did not know prior to purchase. Unlike my other cameras after a 30 day grace period you must subscribe to a cloud service to be able to retrieve video evidence if there is a problem. Had I known this in advance it would have been an instant show stopper, but I did not read enough on the subject prior to purchase. So in summary, I think this would be a great device if you exceeded all of the minimum requirements such as wifi strength and upload speed > 1 MBPS, but for my own reality where I live, sadly not. And cloud subscription? Are you kidding me? At least install a sd card slot for local recording.

Don't Buy

Tested it for 2 weeks, hardwired it anstill I have to manually reconnect it to the WiFi. Waste of time and money.

  • from Winnipeg, MB

Good concept, but poor device 1 star

-Streaming live video is a hit or miss. Doesn't always connect even with strong WiFi feed. Doesn't at all work when you are out of town. - You have to pay a monthly subscription to watch your videos. For the price tag on this device, you should at least have access to the video for 48 hours and the option to download the video. - app doesn't have contact us via the app nor email so good luck in reaching out to them with your issues. - my advice, seek out competition. Unless they are all garbage like the Ring.

love this doorbell

Love this doorbell especially when I'm busy and its someone I'm not interested in speaking with. Talking to the person without answering the door is great.

Can not reccomend this product

Wish I'd returned this rather than fighting with it try to get it to work as advertised. The Video quality is TERRIBLE. Not 720. Support sent me free wifi booster (even though app showed wifi signal at doorbell was strong. They said this would improve quality. It Didn't. Support was friendly, and tried to help, but in the end it's a cheap low end product. App on IPhone is mediocre, some time works, sometimes doesn't. there is a delay which makes actually answering a ring quite difficult, unlike their marketing propaganda which it just works instantly. App on windows is Garbage. and hasn't been updated in over a year, although they say the features are coming, they don't seem to care. Don't buy this junk. Couple better options on the market.

Not for Canada

I had this thing for over a year. During cold weather I was charging it once every 2 weeks. Now it doesn't hold a charge and doesn't recognize my WIFI

  • from Red Deer, AB

Temperature limited product

These products are temperature limited. Batteries don't hold charge in colder weather...even if hardwired (doorbell). I have solar panels on my stick up cameras. Disappointed in their battery performance as well.

  • from Warman, SK

Great Idea But Needs Good Internet

This doorbell is a great idea. Looks nice and the ring part works great. There are issues though with how fast it connects which I think is probably related to my poor internet speed. People are often walking away before I can get the video to appear on my phone; especially if i don't have it in my hand.

  • from Calgary, AB

NOT for Canada

Ring lists under tech specs for a (wired!) version: Operating Conditions: -5°F to 120°F (-21°C to 48°C) The last time I checked, we had way below in Canada than -21C. BestBuy Canada - and how do you look when you omit that fact?

  • from Toronto

Beware of no warranty and purchase protection

Installed and used the doorbell for a month without issue, however it stopped working right after we paid the monthly fee for recording. We called ring customer services about the connection issues but still not working, so we asked if warranty will cover and exchange for a new one. Customer service refused and claimed that RING would not honor warranty nor any protection plan for products bought from third party retailer. This is ridiculous as bestbuy website advertised that 1 year warranty was included.

They should just remove these 720's from the stores

I have one of these and have to say they're not only not good but they're bad for "Ring's" reputation. -The video, even with one of their extenders, is poor. NOT as good as 720p usually. -Camera doesn't turn until people are walking away from your door far too often. -If you have a porch that's higher than street level then you will have a hell of a time getting your setup right. -Depending on where the sun crosses you camera view you could get a lot of false alarms or washout picture. -Some times for no reason, you just get a black screen. -If camera isn't working and you're away from home, you're screwed. They need to create a method for you to reset from your phone. For example, I click button on my phone that triggers something on Ring's servers that sends a resets signal to my doorbell. Anyway, there's more to complain about but I'm sure you get the point.

Ring Wi-Fi Video Doorbell

Easy install and set up. Also purchased the companion plug and play chime, which was also easy to set up. First five days, works like a charm. Hopefully I get 15 years out of this one, like the phone line enabled door bell it replaced.

RING Video Doorbell

Good product, easy to install to existing doorbell wiring. Can call RING to get a free kit to change angle of camera depending on where your existing doorbell button is mounted. The monthly rate to be able to save video is a lot cheaper than another camera I have.

Works Great

Really good. Just be ware that you need an upload speed > 1Mb for it to work good. I had to upgrade my modem to switch to higher upload speed. otherwise works as described. Very easy installation

Button gets stucked with sunlight

Bought one of this last winter and installed at my front door that faces west. Couple of weeks ago I came to my house to find a strong smell of burned copper (that smell you get when something electrical gets burned). My 2 chimes (ding-dong type) and doorbell transformer were completely burned out because this Ring doorbell heated up and thermally expanded to continuously press down the button giving constant power to the chimes/transformer. When the sunlight finally started hitting the Ring doorbell at a direct angle at the front porch, this device couldn’t take it. Do not recommend.

  • from Toronto, ON

Wide angle is great. Too bad no backlighting. face look too Dark

I got this on sale. Too bad this doesn't have backlighting and because it is 180 degrees field of view it pick up the light from the sky and the person face look black. You have to buy a spotlight and turn it on when motion detected to solve that issue which cost another bucks. Too easy for theif to steal this thing. Sound on it is very good. Loud and clear. Too bad the video log doesn't show a thumbnails of the objects or person u have to download or stream it before to see who is at the door. hope it add a thumbnails option later on next update. The annual or monthly fees is not too expensive but other products is free of cloud storage and cheaper.

Not for Edmonton winters

Battery needs charging frequently and if it gets below -15 you are out of luck for a doorbell

Ring doorbell good at first

After a year there's a monthly fee to see pst events. No ones going to answer every movement. Rip off for the company to make you pay a monthly fee after purchasing a product which isn't cheap. Would look to another product if I could return it.

ring door bell on my front door

I bought this product 1 week ago and i felt very very satisfied with this doorbell. one day, a postman delivered a thing in our house i was at work at that moment and i heard ring on my phone i pressed the talk button on my ring apps and talked to the postman and told him leave the thing in front of our door. I like this product very much that i can see who's knocking on my door.

  • from Toronto, ON

good if you pay monthly fees only

PROS: - very good image - I didn't have any lags problems. It takes 2s to ring in my phone - very good app (android) CONS: - The battery is a joke in the winter. 1 week and my battery is 60%. (that's because I use wired... If you want to use in battery-only mode, I really don't suggest this device in Canada... *I live in TO) - Live View only works 20% of the times that I try... - Monthly fees OR no records at all. My live view does not work well but at least I can see the record later... But after 30days of free trial I wont be able to see anything recorded. They should at least include a 1day free clippings... If you don't pay the monthly fee, I think you should considerer another solution...(I can't suggest anything because I don't know other brands)

  • from Montreal

Battery last 6-12 months more like 6-12 weeks

If it's wired to the chime and as power it's good but the wifi receptor sucks. If you have it on batteries it's horrible if you are lucky it sends you a message saying that the batt is low of not well you get knocks on the door when you are away and your wife and kids are home alone and can't see who's outside. I would not buy this again

  • from Chilliwack, BC

Try a different product

This won't stay connected to the network, the video quality is too poor to be useful, and the motion detection is pointless. It's hardwired for power and I bought a powerful router, but this unit doesn't stay charged enough to maintain a good connection. That's probably because the motion sensor activates every time a car passes. That's because a person, walking directly towards the unit, will not activate recording until the last second. Even then, the first few seconds of the video are useless; a person can stride to my door, check it, walk away, and I'll have a blurry recording of someone leaving. I know there are settings for the motion detector, and I phoned support for advice. However, vehicles moving across the frame beyond the end of my driveway are far, far more detectable than a person walking directly toward the unit. This makes it pretty much impossible to establish a good setting because I need it to be more sensitive to people, but less sensitive to cars. Or, I need to put the doorbell where people walk at right angles to it, rather than directly toward it: not very practical. I'm writing today because my security cameras caught a prowler in broad daylight, but my Ring Doorbell recorded only blackness. I have recordings of cars passing a few moments before and after, but the unit malfunctioned in the moment that I needed it. Again. Every week I see a only a still frame or just blackness. I have recordings of people checking my perimeter, but the quality is too poor for good identification. Good doorbell, though.

Works OK - Does Not Like Cold Weather

Great idea but has issues. Cold weather kills the battery (even when its hooked up via the doorbell wires). In Northern Alberta I'm lucky to get a week before I have to recharge it. Another issue is that when I'm not home it takes so long to connect to my phone, that the delivery person has walked away. Video quality is OK and I get to watch the delivery person long after they have left. It does do a good job of recording and that is easy to view from the app.

  • from Calgary, AB

The Ring Doorbell

Not happy at all. The Ring does not hold its charge in cold weather, even when hard wired to house. It needs a wifi booster to work when it does have a charge. Customer service was contacted and they did say that it will not work in extremely cold conditions so I am asking why they would sell it in Canada.

  • from Rothesay, NB

The doorbell freezes solid!!!!!! You also have to pay for recording. The battery lost 20% in a few days? The back bracket is a cheap piece of plastic that will not last for long. This should not be sold in cold climates!

  • from Mississauga

Piece of Garbage/Waste of money

Where do I start. First the motion works when someone approaches the house 20 feet away and sometimes it picks up the person when they are at the door. Other times it picks up vehicles driving by, which are 30 feet away. Which means that the phone/app sends you a notification which is annoying. I have attempted to adjust the distance in the app but to no avail. I'm frustrated with this product. I also purchased the ringer. Attempted to change the ringer. But it keeps coming back to the default ringer. FRUSTRATING!!!!

  • from Calgary

It works until winter. Now that it's is cold the battery dies every two days. Not good
