Set up was a breeze. I don't no why other people are having so many problems. Mine was so easy. I think most of the problems people were having will occur if you don't have a decent Wi-Fi signal. The only complaint I have is my wired doorbell voltage doesn't seem to be enough to keep it charged decently since the battery does take eight hours to charge on it's own. One complaint I do have is that the printed instructions were in French only. NO English directions were provided. I had to go to YouTube to figure out how to install it. Also, I wish the software would allow you to disable the infrared at night.

Not made for winter wonderland

After chatting with a product rep at Ring.com... this was their answer! I decided to return the product for now. I still give it a 3 on 5 because of their honest customer service and quick release battery is sick feature. Please note that I needed a battery install which is why I absolutely needed the feature. In regards to the batter and cold weather: 🔋 The Ring uses the most advanced battery technology available for this type of device (lithium polymer / lithium ion). 🔋 Even so, batteries do not perform well in very cold weather. Ring devices that have a battery have a couple of key temperatures to be aware of: ❄️36°F (3°C) - The battery may not hold a charge as effectively, resulting in having to charge the unit more frequently. ❄️32°F (0°C) - The battery may not charge at all. Even hardwired configurations may not charge the battery. ❄️-5°F (-20.5°C) on older devices, -20°F (-28.9°C) on newer devices - The Ring may stop working completely until temperatures warm up. This will NOT damage the device, reduce it's lifespan, or void it's warranty in any way.

Happy....so far

After almost a month of use I am very happy with the Ring Video Doorbell 2. Installation was easy...customer support, both online and phone, was very friendly and helpful. My only issue so far is with the freezing of the video image and lack of audio/video sync. I think I read somewhere that Ring is working on a fix for this by using some buffering improvements in an upcoming firmware release. I am also finding it difficult to find an extra battery for the unit up here in Canada. Best Buy stocks/sells many of Ring's doorbells but don't carry their batteries for some strange reason.(at least they don't currently...hopefully this changes)

Extremely Unreliable, especially in Cold

This appliance (Ring Doorbell) goes on strike once the outside temperature is colder than -15C and accordingly should not be sold in Canada, as it is not fit for use in Canada.

I voted with my wallet and returned it

Strike 1: All instructions only came in French.... not a huge issue because I can go on line to get them but raises my suspicion level of what's with their Quality Control? Strike 2: "Your Internet connection is not working" - hmmm... as many different ways as one could think about were tried, 1.5 hrs Christmas Day, 1 hr boxing day, still no connection - trying to get a connection, starting my mobile device, restarting my computer, rebooting my router.... this is WAY too complicated - faulty App by chance? Oddly my internet connection works 100% with every other App. Strike 3: To do anything more than the basic function - you need a paid monthly subscription - I did specifically ask about this at BB before purchase and the Sales person said nope, not required - true but without it, you can't record anything or review anything and that's NOT what I wanted Strike 4: Only PC compatible with Win10 I returned it to Best Buy who gave absolutely no hassle - Well done, I was expecting some pushback and there was none. Wonderful job and I'll continue to shop there - As for Ring 2- Nope, would not recommend it.

Real bad image, works occasionally. If you have an Android telephone or tablet definitively won't buy it, it's worthless.

Not worth the money

I have had this doorbell for about 3 months now and I must say that it was a waste of money. For starters, I had to purchase a wi-fi extender and even with that it takes a long time for the video to appear on my phone, if it does at all. You definitely cannot count on it to work when you want it to. I am seriously considering calling it a loss and get another brand of video doorbell. Note that my signal strength is showing as "good" and yet many times I have to wait almost a full minute and the app fails to connect with the doorbell.

Unreliable product, even worse customer service

I bought the Ring Video Doorbell 2 and overall I am not impressed. When the device works, it works great but unfortunately it is fairly unreliable, to the point where I missed packages since not all notifications would be delivered. I spoke with customer service multiple times and it was suggested that it was due to my poor wifi connection, which they sent me a Chime Pro to help fix the problem. Unfortunately the Chime Pro made the connection even worse than before with no extender. When I contacted customer service again, they told me that the issue was misdiagnosed and in fact it is due to my internet connection. I was told to upgrade my internet connection and then contact them when it is fixed. Apparently my 60mbps down / 15mbps up connection is not fast enough for the Ring Video Doorbell yet I can stream YouTube 1080p outside of my house to no issue. Their customer service team told me to contact them once I upgrade my internet LOL. The device was a waste of money and I would look at solutions from August and Nest over Ring. Their customer service team is even worse so don't expect much help when you run into problems with the device. For now, this device is finding a home in my junk drawer.

I would not recommend Ring 2

I've had this device for two weeks, and its performance has dropped consistently in that time. To begin with, the device's motion detection sensor works only if there's an event 3-5 feet away. I've tried to adjust the detection zone settings with no luck. Second, the connection to the wifi has deteriorated progressively. It went from a "good" connection to "fair" to "poor" to no connection over the space of two weeks. I have made no adjustments or changes to my network or wifi settings. When I run the wifi diagnostic tool, I now see the doorbell showing up twice as two separate IPs. And the iOS app is very slow to respond. Perhaps the only thing that still works consistently is the doorbell function. If it weren't for that (and the fact that I've already drilled six holes into the bricks of the front of my house) I would return this doorbell.

Just what I was looking for! Happy so far!

Installation was a breeze! Excellent video quality, but a bit 'laggy' in live view on the app - the recordings are good though. Voice quality is just ok. Works flawlessly with our existing doorbell, and the three "Ring Chime" add-on devices I purchased and installed upstairs, downstairs and in the garage. Very glad that it has SmartThings integration - I probably would have looked elsewhere if it didn't. Through SmartThings I have it set up to automatically turn on our porch lights at night when someone rings the doorbell or when it senses motion. Because of my mounting location, the included wedge kit came in VERY handy - I needed to use BOTH pieces to get a nice centered picture . My only VERY MINOR complaint would be that I wish it had more of a metal body - feels a bit on the 'plasticy' side, but still looks nice. That said, I would still recommend the "Ring Video Doorbell 2" to a friend in a heartbeat! Now I just need to see how it performs through one of our cold Canadian winters!

My only issue was connecting to my WiFi. Signal doesn't seem to like going through brick. I installed a couple access points to boost the signal and everything is good now.

Not sure why the previous guy just gives up if it's not working. There can be so many issues, including poor connectivity, which is the obvious s. Just call their support and get it sorted out duh Anyways, there's no need to go on. If you know about this product then just know it's great. I have it integrated with all my smart home devises. Integration into SmartThings was a breeze and IFTTT options are pretty good. I've done enough research to know this product is proven and so far so good!

First one was a dud: connected to network but no live view; Bestbuy instore replacement was fast and easy. Second one works great: smooth live view, more details and connects faster than the first gen video bell.

Try it for a week, and this guy is going back, bad connection within the smartphone. no live preview.
