Fantastic- Recommend

Bought this for an older tv (about 8 yrs.old) to make into smart tv. All I really wanted was Netflix and YouTube. Got that and more. Easy to install, easy to use. There is a work around when they ask for your credit card. I got an acct. first online. etc Some stuff requires paid subscriptions but some is free you just have to look. I am very happy with it.

Works as advertized

Small clean device with simple, clear setup instructions, all cables and batteries included. Working hard to find something to complain about here, but didn’t like having to provide credit card number. Too late I ‘heard’ that there is a method to activate the device without filling in the start-up form. I haven’t verified this, but look it up if you want to avoid that portion. I especially liked being able to power it with the provided USB cable, that made the wiring so much cleaner looking.

Happy with purchase

I ordered this for my mother who didn't have a smart TV and is somewhat technologically challenged. She wanted Netflix but was afraid of the hassle. Took a bit of time to set up (mostly online), but went smoothly and she's very happy - loves the Netflix button. The only reason I give it 4 stars rather than 5, is that it asks you for your credit card when signing up online to begin use. I read afterwards that there may be a workaround, but it's certainly not clear as an option to not use a credit card when setting up. There haven't been any charges yet as far as I know, but I think if you want to buy some special channel that does have a cost associated then it should request a credit card at the time of purchase – not just to be able to activate it. Would recommend it though to those who don't have an aversion to using a credit card to setup, or who don't mind googling the workaround to avoid registering with a credit card.

Go cancel your cable.. Right now!

I don't know why I didn't buy this year's ago! No need for crappy cable anymore. Save your money and invest in one of these for every tv in your home. So easy and simple.

Great Roku Product for older CRT TVs

This idea is great to watch TV on. My first streaming media player. There is a lot of old TV shows on it plus a whole lot of first rate Movies most are free, while others carry a price tag. It's so easy to hook up with supplied cables, both the older AV ones as well as the newer HDMI. My CRT TV has front mounted AV inputs, so I use the supplied yellow composite AV video to my TV, while the Left-Right audio goes to my Receiver for sound. There's one channel on the device you should get after you setup your device, and that is "XTV" among others. The software side is very easy to setup just follow the on screen instructions. Thought on the hardware side, don't use any Video switches in your setup, does not like it. Future of TV is Here. No more networks to deal with except sports like "TSN" and "Sportsnet". I am very much into MLS soccer, But Roku has "MLS Live" Channel that I am eager to try. Anything Roku to buy whether a device or a Roku TV should be on your next shopping list

ROKU 3710 has Composite RCA Output

Found this unit to be a saviour for connecting Netflix, CinemaNow, YouTube, and more to my ancient HD projection TV. Connected Composite (RCA) to input on upscaling DVD Recorder. Connected output of DVD Component (RED, BLUE, GREEN) plus audio (RCA) to TV Input. This is a great item for modernizing your non-smart TV set.

Great media player

This media player is awesome. Super small and can't be seen other than the very dim LED. Great picture, sound and features at an affordable price. Not as fast as my Roku 2 but at the price, can't complain. If you want a faster media player go for the Premiere or the Ultra. The delivery time was the best, ordered online on Dec. 22nd and received a delivery confirmation of Dec 29, I actualy received my purchase on Dec.23rd. Thank you Best Buy!!!

ROKU express + superb purchase well worth every penny

I be one of the many people out there that still owns a large screen to television before HDMI was ever in the picture the unit happens to work tremendously well. Even though it was 11 years old. Up until now I had been using a Sony Blu-ray player that had RCA connectors to enable me to watch YouTube. As I am and YouTube fanatic when good old Sony decided to obsolete the second Blu-ray player in the last 18 months. I was at my wits end. I was just about right attacked again until I did a Google search, and this wonderful line of ROKU products popout. Fortunately, there was a you tube video that was done on all these units and to my amazement the wonderful people at ROKU were considerate enough to make model still compatible with older televisions and what I found out that it was so reasonably priced. I immediately ordered one from Best Buy Canada. Within 72 hours. I had my unit it was so amazingly easy to connect I thought it was too good to be true. But even more to my amazement I was flabbergasted by the quality of the units and the fact that it was far superior in speed and there was no freeze ups which I suffered from regularly with the Sony Blu-ray players. Rarely in the world today if you find a product that is worth twice the price they charged to purchase one. This ROKU express + is one of those rare units. I highly highly highly recommend this unit and will be purchasing some in the future as gifts. Thank you to the manufacturer ROKU for being considerate enough to still producing units usable on old televisions and thank you Best Buy for your above-average service that I have become used to getting! A + + + +

Great Product for Older TVs with No HDMI Input

This worked great on my 14 year old LCD TV! It's actually pretty fast, too (well, faster than I thought it would be, based on reviews I read). It's a shame the device doesn't come with component/s-video so I can get HD quality, but I guess composite AV is better than nothing! The picture still looked pretty decent. I have two tips for activation: 1. If you don't want to add a payment option, you can hit the 'back' button on your browser when you get to the screen to add your credit card. It still activates your Roku, but leaves the payment information in our account incomplete. 2. If you want the free Cinema Now movie offer, add a payment option (I don't think it will work without it). Unfortunately, I did not get an email from Roku with my 3 free Cinema Now movie rental codes, so I had to contact Roku customer service, and after a long exchange proving the offer info and my activation info, a supervisor had to email me the activation codes manually. Yikes!
