does not have full screen on netflix, remote battery always dying , does not mirror or pair with devices, if it does, it is very picky, but is hard to do. and there are very few choices of apps. limited in most things. and will not just turn off. i have to unplug .

Bought this device couple of months ago. Did not use it because you have to change batteries biweekly and the remote can`t stay paired. Now, when I try to pair the remote light does not blink anymore. This is product should be discontinued long time ago. This company is not reliable at all.

Not Worth It

Bought this unit around Christmas time 2017. I used it about a few times. It works great but the content on the streaming device is totally useless. Apart from Crackle, Tubi TV , Yes TV & some international channels you don't get much of today's English content ,you mostly get old classic movies & TV shows from the 1930's - 1960's for free. The rest of present content you need to pay for. However I got to watch Baywatch 2017 movie in Italian on the international channel content before the movie was streamed from Netflix Canada. If your over 50 & like stuff from the past you will be happy. If you're under 50 years old you will be disappointed. If you have a Smart TV don't waste your money ,best get yourself Smart IPTV app & IPTV provider.

works but had to get another hdmi cable

Easy set up. Good app and like the convenience of using smart phone as converter. Entering passwords with the regular converter is a pain in the neck. wasn't thrilled that I had to get another hdmi cable to make this device work. kept kicking me out of netflix, or stopping and restarting. older hdmi cable fixed immediately. not sure if this has something to do with age of tv. was easy as I had an hdmi cable in house - but a bit of a pain if you don't

Garbage, you get what you pay for!

Bought this for my parents so they could watch netflix on their tv. Cant even get the remote to work or pair to the unit. apparently its a common issue with some tips from other buyers online. i tried everything they have suggested and still nothing. what a disappointing christmas gift. Now i have to go stand in line after christmas and return it for something of better quality like a chromecast or wd player. save yourself the headache and get a different brand or better quality unit. figured roku was one of the best considering they are building them into tv's. Not very impressed.

Works for streaming but no good for screen mirroring

Pros: Works for Netflix, Youtube and streaming in general. Cons: 1. Screen mirroring option is half baked. It worked with a new tablet Model #: B-X304F TAB, however, it is not a steady delivery when watching video, video stumbles and works again. It is only good for a still image. Does not work with a new laptop UX430UA-BH51-CB at all. Roku shuts down when it tries to connect but laptop for some reason shows as connected. After it shuts down, need to restart Roku to get it working again even for streaming options but will refuse to connect for mirroring with the laptop. 2. Unit becomes very hot when in use. It is mildly warm when not in use but powered. There is no power off option on the remote, need to pull the power cord from the power unit (or USB port on the TV) which is inconvenient.

Very good device

I bought this streaming stick last Sunday to replace my old WD TV live streaming media. The set up was easy and the 5G wifi connection was instant. Picture quality from Netflix and Youtube using this streaming stick is better than WD media. The remote is responsive and well built. The streaming stick, even though is on 24/7, is lukewarm and not hot at all in my case. I highly recommend it for the purpose of streaming.

unplug it when not watching

Installation was a breeze. Fast load speed and convenient connection with your cellphone. Only issue as the above review mentioned: it does get really hot. I suppose with less usage it might prolong its life time. So my solution is to unplug it from the tv after watching. Or replace it every year and half or so. It's your call, until there's a better device on the market.

Roku Streaming Stick

The Roku Streaming Stick worked fine for a while then Netflix just does not work on it. I have done everything to resolve the issue and to no avail. Not the right product! it the choice is between Pass and Fail: the answer is Fail

VERY short lifespan

bought two of these and a Roku 1 device 16 months ago. both the streaming sticks began to act funny about 3 weeks ago. now neither work reliably at all while the Roku 1 has no issues. contacted Roku and they told me.... tough luck for you. its 50 bucks and has to be replaced every year and a half (I suspect) because of over heating. they are always VERY hot. you can judge if that is acceptable. it seems like a design flaw to me.

Doesn't always work....

I've had Rokus before and they've always been great. This one, however, only works intermittently. It will work on a setting for 1080p for one evening and then it won't work on that setting the next evening, but if you set it to 720p, it'll work again. The following evening, you'll need to change it from 720p back to 1080p. Luckily, Best Buy agreed to let us exchange it for a different one. Still, it's the only Roku this has ever happened with and it's really unacceptable.

.. Go cancel your cable right now!

I don't know why I didn't buy this year's ago! No need for crappy cable anymore. Save your money and invest in one of these for every tv in your home. So easy and simple.

Awesome way to watch TV!

I bought this :) for my sister as a gift as I have one and love it. Lots of selection and variety of shows and movies for everyone in the family! Who needs cable really?!? Just use Roku with your Internet! Enjoy!

Roku Stick Works Well; except when it doesn't

I was able to set the Roku stick up easily out of the box and we viewed several hours of video on Netflix. Next use, setup was fussy and the stick would not sign on to WiFi, but would sign on to guest WiFi. During this procedure the remote pairing worked well, but subsequently did not. Re-initialization sometimes cleared the stick, and digging the batteries out of the remote and replacing them sometimes fixed that problem. Tried driving the stick with the Roku App on iPhone, and again it worked sometimes. My setup did not allow power removal when the stick was not in use, and that might have been better. I eventually tired of this drama and returned the stick to Best Buy who were exceptional in their service.

Save Your Hard Earned Dollars - concept good Installation Support Inadequate

Instructions are simple but do not work effectively. I confirmed the HDMI port was working using a HDMI cable and my laptop prior to installation of the Streaming Stick. Followed instructions as stated plus the minimal ROKU trouble shooting instructions. This included replacing the batteries too. Still no ROKU video. Never got to the connection to WIFI or registration options. You Tube is more helpful but is a flaky product at best.based on personal failure and comments by the authors on You Tube Made for USA and not effectively tested for Canada use I suspect Surprising Best Buy would sell it

Great Value

Easy to install, works as advertized, some neat extras like NFB Channel

  • from Truro, NS

I bought 2 roku sticks for Christmas. One worked perfectly, the other had to be returned as the remote wouldn't work. Once I got a replacement it works fine as well. They are good for my main purpose, being able to watch Netflix and YouTube on the TV and there are lots of pthwr channels but I haven't really found any that are great.

Great product, like the fact that I can power it using USB connection on TV

Easily the best bang for the buck of all the streaming options

We've had Apple TV, a few flavours of Kodi boxes, and several types of casting and the Roku stick is by far our favourite. It's compact, portable, reliable, and easy to use. While the preloaded channels are useful, the real value is unlocked with the use of private Roku channels, guides for which are easily available online.

Outstanding Performance

I will address issues I hope will help someone decide whether or not to switch to this device from another streaming device. I have the stick plugged into my Sony 860 HDMI port that is MHL compatible. My Router is a NetGear R6200v2. Was streaming to a 5 yr old WD Live TV box and Sony Blu-Ray. My WD box was losing channels with every upgrade and those still available did not all work. Roku was cheap and on sale. The ability to add the channels I wanted to watch, that were no longer supported by the WD box made me give it a try. What a revelation. Although the Roku media software does not have all the controls over my videos that the WD does (screen position, subtitles position, text color, etc..) is compensated by outstanding Video quality and NO buffering even with 1080p movies. Same goes for Music and Photos. But the real surprise was YouTube...what I thought was issues with the service was actually my WD box. Videos were crystal clear and sound top notch and almost zero buffering...Same applies to NETFLIX. The Roku has an IR my Logitech 650 doesn't control it but the ROKU remote is small and the stick is very responsive to the remote...also both the Ipad and Android Remote apps are excellent. For me the loss of flexibility over control of my media streaming from my PC is offset by the quality on screen and the speed. So I suspect my WD will gather dust except when I watch subtitled movie and will want more control. The best and most amazing the Roku is half the price of my WD Live TV.

Great Little Device

It works well out of the box. Lots of free channels but don't fool yourself in thinking your getting free cable TV. If you have Netflix, it's a nice system for it. Easy to set up and use. Quick buttons for Netflix, YouTube, etc. are nice and useful. No issues so far after 1 month of use. Will likely buy another one for the basement. Processor is fast. I would highly recommend it.

Nice Roku for the traveler.

This does everything that our two Roku 3s can do. Even better when the stick uses the usb port for its power because you can;t always find a power plug in your hotel. My only complaint is that I miss the headphone jack that the Roku 3 has for private listening.

  • from Kemptville

Good product

I have an older version of this product and needed a second one. This one is much faster. It does everything very well and was easy to set up. I have had no issues with it. It would be nice to have a shutoff selection so it is not on all the time when you are not using it. Unplugging it is a pain.

  • from Ottawa, ON

Good for the price you pay

I had the previous version of the Roku stick and the new stick works pretty much the same, except for pre-programmed buttons for youtube, spotify, netflix and google play that have been added. Personally, I wanted a device to help me stream video in my bedroom TV that has no wi-fi access. The channel choice isn't great in Canada, but I already knew this. It's what it is, and for the price you are paying, it's a pretty good deal.

Stick Good - Remote Bad

The streaming stick itself is great and does everything I bought it for. The remote control is terrible. It often doesn't work. I ended up downloading an app for the remote on my phone and that works 100% of the time. I would give 5 stars if the remote worked and only 3 stars if I hadn't found an app to replace the remote.

  • from Saskatoon, SK

I love Roku but don't waste your money (or take the chance) on this item with it's wi-fi remote. Found lots of people had problems after searching for solution as mine would not pair with the stick. Some people got theirs working but I never did. Can't even set it up to use an app for remote without the real remote first. Took it back and upgraded to a higher model with regular infra-red remote and it's fantastic. Spend the few extra bucks and get a better model than this one.

Awsome, fast and easy!

  • from Abbotsford, BC

Remote works for only a few minutes at a time. Couldn't even go through set up the first time. You have to unplug the Roku stick to restart EVERY TIME the remote disconnects which kind of defeats the purpose of having a remote. I had this for 2 days before taking it back. Customer service was also bad, tried live chat that was supposed to be open until 8, it was 6:30 and said no agents available. Tried to call their number and the sound was very faint and cut in and out ( I had reception on my phone). So finally emailed them at 7pm. Next day at 1:15pm still haven't had a response. Would not recommend.

Does what it says

Do your research people. No shomi, no crave, but it works well. Remote is uhf so you don't have to point it at tv allowing you to be in another room. It's plugged into my hdmi switch box so all rooms can view. Apps for all types of kids to adult viewing.

Turned my old tv to new Smart tv

Never thought this do such a great entertain. It has turned my old LCD tv to Smart TV.

  • from Toronto, ON

Not the coverage they get in the USA

I just returned the Roku stick that I purchased. It was easy to set up and use but there was one major gap. It did not support Shomi or Crave TV. The main reason I bought it was to watch Shomi in my bedroom when the main TV was in use by someone else. Reviews of Roku give it high marks for supporting more services and apps than its competition, but that is in the USA. It has no such advantage in Canada where Apple TV gives me access to any channel that I want. I believe Chromecast does too.

  • from Mont tremblant

really not happy

I can't give 0 stars so for that give only one. Bought it ,install it ,open acount not working how was presented, call tehnica support with 0 result (tehnical suport really not helpful ),close acount ,uninstal unit. Total experience with roku:4-5 hours!!! Not worth it at all!

Saved by ROKU

After my smart TV went stupid and ruined my streaming experience I decided instead of trying to get it fixed I would just buy the Roku streaming stick. I am so happy I did. Streaming has been a pleasure and I think better than my smart TV was.

Don't waste your money!

Terrible remote lag, slow, Roku should be ashamed of themselves

  • from Toronto, ON

Great streaming device - (almost) everything you need

I bought the new Roku stick to replace my older (3500CA) Roku stick that was working well, but was also a very slow device from the get go. I'm pretty happy with my decision. It works as fast as my 2015 Roku 3. The good: * It's small, and hidden behind the TV. You can connect it to one of your TV USB outlets and it will draw power from there, or you can hook it to the AC socket. *Supports most of the popular streaming services plus hundreds of others *The Plex app is *really* good *Supports casting and mirroring *It has a physical remote. No remote for me is a show stopper, since you cannot look at the TV screen while you're messing around with the tablet/phone apps *It also has a remote control app... *Cheap. The Google stick might be slightly cheaper, but it has no remote (or UI) The Bad: *Doesn't support iTunes movies (for this you need Apple TV, and it's not going to change...) *Doesn't support Shomi or CraveTV yet. Hopefully it will come soon.

Really good! Ditched cable and land line

Bought this thing and wow. So much content for so little money. Fair warning, you do need to get some private channel codes on line to get the best free content. We are able to get most of what we want for free. Local news, BBC, movies. Weakest area is live sports. Works with webio ap to cast Netflix and youtube from my android phone. also bought an ooma voip device to replace my land line. We need a land line as we have no cell coverage in the area. Lowers my monthly bill from over [price] to [price] per month. Not too shabby.
