Not HDCP Compliant. Get The ASUS MG28UQ Instead

I've had this for a few months now and don't really regret it. Works well at 4k resolution,60hz using the displayport connection and 125% scale (though some may prefer 150%). The screen real estate is amazing and you can have so many windows side by side at the same time. Good quality 1080p movie files still look great in fullscreen, and the 4k content on Youtube looks fantastic as well. With an R9 290 video card I can play some games at 4k with settings turned down a bit but not at 60 FPS. That being said, don't get this monitor for gaming unless you know you can run them in 4k smoothly. To get reasonable FPS I have to run games in 1440p which defeats the purpose of this monitor (my own fault though). There are a few reasons that I wish I had got the ASUS MG28UQ instead even though they're essentially they're the same panel and the ASUS is a bit more expensive. 1. You get 2 extra years of warranty from the manufacturer, who will ship you a new unit before they receive your defective one (backed by a credit card, of course). 2. The stand on the Samsung isn't great and I wanted the extra desk space with a monitor arm stand anyway. It has VESA mounts but they're not centered on the back of the unit. This means it sits about 5" lower at max height than most units would so you lose adjustability. Also it won't support itself if you want to rotate it into portrait mode. 3. The real reason I regret buying this is that it isn't HDCP 2.2 compliant. I didn't think about it until I started looking into upgrading my Netflix account to get UHD streaming but by that time I had already had the monitor too long to exchange it in store. This means very little legal 4k content outside of independent creation (such as Youtube). TL;DR Wait for a sale and get the Asus MG28UQ instead.

A great Monitor for the price!

This monitor is amazing for its price. I have read reviews of people not understanding why they cant get above 30HZ when in 4k resolution mode. The thing that many people fail to understand is that only one of the ports is designated for 4k 60hz resolution, which is the HDMI 2 port. 4k 30hz resolution is horrible, it feels super choppy, especially for gaming. If you find yourself frustrated with this issue first check that you are using the correct port and that you have a HDMI 2.0 cable in the correct port. Overall for its price this monitor delivers top notch 4k resolution. In comparison to many of the big name brands with the same specs it does the same job at a lower price. If you choose to go with a gamer brand like ROG with the exact same specs as this product all you will be paying for is the Brand Name.

Not as good as you think

Thought this Monitor provides a great Display Port Resolution. The fact that it says 4K Gaming Monitor is VERY misleading. The best Resolution you can can get at 4k is 30 fps, which in terms of gaming is horrible. The amount of Input lag and general frame lag is unberable when playing 4k supported games. The standard for 4k is 60 FPS not 30. Do NOT buy this if you expect to game in 4k at best its good for playing movies and thats it.

Excellent for the money.

I got it for 379 CAD during Christmas. It has been an excellent monitor. I did not experience any issues such as dead pixels. I did experience some backlight bleed which was solved by lowering screen brightness. (I use the monitor in a dark basement). Overall this monitor is really good for the price and I would recommend it for viewing media or gaming. Imo gaming at 4k 60hz is the best you can get right now. Unless you are a competitive fps games or something.

Not very good!

The TN panel yields a washed colour gamut and the white is too warm for Matt taste. While playing videogames the tearing is enormous. I returned ot. The price is fair though 399 CAD with a discount. More then that is not worth it.

Not Compatible

Please note this monitor may not be compatible with your Macintosh, meaning no access to 4K. Many other Mac resolutions remain unsupported, some flash the monitor to sleep and awake again with no picture. Besides driver issues, this monitor only offers poor lighting and limited adjustments. The colour of most modes is unreliable. The best mode I found was Gaming Mode, which adds a flicker to the picture. Also note that the Display Port is limited to 30Hz. It can do Picture-in-picture with two HDMIs, useful for connecting a PC and another device. Multiple inputs works most of the time.

Not HDCP 2.2 Compliant.

Bought this monitor for my xbox one s thinking id be able to stream netflix, youtube in ultrahd 4k, this monitor however is not HDCP 2.2 compliant so netflix and youtube will only play upscaled 1080p video. Very lame and i now have to buy a hdcp 2.2-1.4 hdmi splitter.

You may need a new video card to drive this monitor

Bought this monitor and returned it the same day because although I have an Nvidia GTX 560 video card, it was not powerful enough to scale resolution up to 4k HD. With the video card I have I was unable to go higher than 1080p !! So, before you buy this monitor, please sure you have the right video card with HDMI 2.0 and/or a Display port.

I have 2 of these

I like this monitor a lot, but there are things I don't like. The first gen model doesn't have any mounting capability and the 2nd gen model sits about 1.5 cm shorter. The 2nd gen model has an eye saver feature which is nice. Definitely stay away from the first gens. Now the real problem, I bought 5 of these before I finally had one that didn't have dead pixels or foreign matter under the screen, I would never buy one of these online for this reason alone. Also, don't bother unless you're connecting with dp 1.2+ ... people connecting with hdmi only are going to have some complaints. and make sure your graphics card can handle the processing required by 4k

Awful blacks and washed out display

I bought this monitor based on all the positive reviews, and based on what I saw, I'm wondering if I just had a defective monitor. The first impression was that the monitor was way too bright and seemed washed out in all colours. The blacks were pretty bad and made text look fuzzy. Tried adjusting every possible setting but things did not improve. Colours and blacks looked way worse than my Dell U2515H sitting right beside it, and compared to my built in XPS 15 4k display it looked like garbage. Needless to say I returned it immediately and picked up an LG 27UD68 and couldn't be happier. Looks way sharper, blacks are great, doesn't look washed out etc...Again, not sure if I just got a defective monitor, but I was not impressed. When buying the LG, I saw the Samsung in the store compared to others and it definitely looked like the blacks were washed out on that one too. Something to look for. Otherwise, didn't like the glossy border, stand is flimsy, but didn't really care as I was going to use the VESA mount.

NO HDCP - Not really 4k!

I purchased 2 of these monitors for my laptop which can utilize 4k correctly, however, any device that requires HDCP (High Definition Copy Protection) will not run on these monitors. If you were hoping to hook these up to your PS4 Pro, they will not work. Therefore, these are not really 4k. Have a look at the comparable Asus MG28UQ. Better quality and HDCP 2.2 certified. Much better.

Great picture, poor stand.

This is a great deal while on sale. Picture quality is fantastic and the physical size of the monitor isn't as overwhelming as I thought it might have been. I replaced an old 24" Dell monitor with this one. Only gripe is the stand. It's flimsy and only has tilt adjustment so you can't raise it, or rotate it. I'm sure there are 3rd party VESA capable stands you could replace the stock stand with if you really need rotation. I just sat the monitor on top of a big book for now.

Bought two of these

Bought 2, one on a vista system, one on w7. Use it for graphics work mainly. Picture is fantastic, Only one problem - boot screen does not show up on the hdmi connection, but does on the vga connection. On hdmi, screen stays black until windoz loads. I have it mounted on HP monitor arm, which is barely strong enough to hold it up, but this does work. Got very lucky to pick this up for 300 on boxing day sale. No regrets.

Nice 4K monitor for the price! I find it annoying that you can't turn it off with one button (3 steps: push button for menu, move cursor to turn off, push button to select) but I'll get used to it.

Great color, very low flicker, overall very solid value 4k

I really don't have any specific complaints about this monitor. For someone looking to get into 4K without spending a ton of money, this is a great pick. The color reproduction is very good for a TN panel, and I've yet to notice any material amount of flicker in the backlight. Very solid choice.

Dissapointed but am still giving it a try

Like some have mentioned, the screens turns itself off sometimes of just flicker. I bought this monitor to work with my Macbook Pro (early 2013). At first it wasn't working... it kept flickering on and off and when I had it on the mouse was extremely slow and lagging. I've spent some time on it and I got it to work ok(ish) with a resolution of 1920 x 1080... at least no more mouse lagg. I also bought this monitor to plug in my XBOX One S. Again, some disappointment as the screen flickered at first. I was able to play a couple of hours without any problems. PROS: Nice monitor, big, beautiful colours. CONS: Only 30 Hz when plugged in with HDMI and the screen wobbles a lot if you're touching it (turn on/off, navigating through the menu, etc). I will try the DP and see if that can solve some issues. I'm not giving up on this monitor yet.

Great 4K Monitor. Still No HDR!

This is a nice monitor for anyone that is looking to purchase a 4K monitor for PC or Console use. If you are looking for HDR support then hold off on buying this monitor as currently, no monitors support it as of yet. CES 2017 is likely where we will see 4K HDR panels come out with Gsync or Freesync ability. Other than that this is an amazing panel that I had the privilege of using thus far. If you are into heavy gaming it provides a nice feature to reduce eyestrain for long hours of play. The picture can be adjusted based on you're preference. Overall the I run this monitor with a GTX 1080 Asus ROG Strix OC Edition so it makes for a great experience all round. No screen tearing or stuttering up until this point. It deserves the 5/5.

The near-perfect budget 4k monitor

The picture quality and color reproduction from this monitor is excellent and sharp. The monitor isn't factory calibrated so unless you manually calibrate and tweak it the visuals are lackluster. I spent hours calibrating this monitor and the end result blew my mind how terrible the default settings were. The stand is plastic and weak causing the monitor to wobble heavily from the slightest bump, I didn't expect anything more from a budget monitor and even higher end monitors are still mainly plastic so the biggest issue is the wobble and lack of any maneuverability. I would recommend this monitor for the color reproduction alone, it's really close to what you would find from IPS panels that has superior colors overall. I'm running 4k without any scaling and everything is perfectly readable and ultra clear.

Beautiful Monitor

Bought this monitor for gaming and it did not disappoint. Beautiful colour very vibrant and little or no visual stutter or teaing while playing Battlefield 1. ( I use a GFX950 in 1080p resolution -no freesync) You might want to make sure your video card supports 4K although gaming in 4K is not possible unless you have a powerhouse computer. The one minor complaint that was already mentioned here- it doesn't wake up when connected through the display port in windows. You have to power it off and back on. Biggest problem for me is my 55 inch 1080p TV looks like crap now that I am used to this beauty. All in all a great monitor.

Pleasantly surprised using with non retina MBPro mid 2012

I picked this monitor over Asus PB278Q (2k) because of price point. There were out of monitors and I was surprised to see this monitor at approx 50% off original price. It was an open box mind you, but it was just sitting there near the counter. I saw it and immediately bought it...having realized that I just had my boxing day shopping done. The display is gorgeous, even though I can only run at 2560x1600p on my MBPro mid 2012 using miniDP to DP adapter (be careful of cheap adapters as they max out at 1080p...I learned it the hard way). But my other work laptop (lenovo thinkpad t460s) runs at full 4k at 60hz. The difference is night and day!! Very easy to install and it just works great. The best 4k display at a reasonable (hmmm steal) price point. The only con that I can say is the warranty period only an yr. Asus and BenQ offer 3 years warranty. But you can always buy extended warranty at Bestbuy, i guess (I just went ahead and bought the 4 yr extended warranty). All in all, a very good buy. before buying this monitor. There is a lot of information about all sorts of issues before even thinking of buying a 4k monitor.

Incompatibity problems with Xbox One S

I purchased this monitor with the intention to use it with my Xbox One S, to take advantage of the 4K output. Once connected, the monitor would periodically wink on and off during use. The brightness seemed low compared to my BenQ gaming monitor, which was connected to my Xbox previously. The monitor sways back and forth, even when turning it on and off, or releasing my hand from the control nub in the back. Needless to say, I sent the monitor back for refund. Quite disappointing!

Good Monitor, Specs misleading

I'm seeing a lot of reviews saying it doesn't work with Windows 10. I'm currently writing this review from a Windows 10 PC using this very monitor and do not have any issues at all. Monitor works great. However, I did find the item description to be misleading on multiple sites. I'm not sure if this is Samsung's doing. The DisplayPort (1.2) will do 4K at 60Hz, and the HDMI2 port is in fact HDMI 2.0 complaint and will also output at 4K resolution with a refresh rate of 60Hz. What I find odd about the product is that the HDMI1 port follows the HDMI 1.4 standard and will only get you 4K at 30Hz. Many sites are advertising HDMI 2.0 and many buyers are assuming that both HDMI ports are HDMI 2.0 compliant. Other users are assuming the monitor can only refresh at 30Hz using HDMI because all the HDMI1 port is all they've tested.

Good But Has Flaws

It's a great upgrade going from a 24" 1080p LCD monitor. This provides quadruple the resolution and bigger picture. I find that the menu though is unresponsive at times when trying to shut down my PC and my monitor at the same time. Sometimes my PC would disable the driver when I just turn it off and it would sometimes screw with my sound settings (annoying). Too bad it also doesn't support g-sync as I have a Nvidia card, however, it supports free sync, which requires an AMD card.

A NIGHTMARE

This monitor is the worst I've ever had. It absolutely does not work with displayport, be ready for hours of frustration as it turns it self off when you try to use a displayport cable to connect to your computer. Trying to do 2 monitors at once? forget it. It will turn off and flicker and change resolution. I cant even begin to describe all the problems it has because ever day it has a new one that is slightly different. It is like a virus that adapts to your troubleshooting. And you can forget about any help from samsung. they will blame your computer. Buy LG IPS monitor instead. The 4k one i have is 1000x better then this junk.

The price was right. Using a display port, you can get a decent refresh rate with really high resolutions. Using a HDMI cable, you can get a decent resolution but at a crappy refresh rate (alright for office work though). No complaints, don't regret the purchase at all.

Amazing Monitor

I needed some screen real estate for financial trading. I was planning on getting 2 of these, but I only need one! It's basically 4 1080p panels in one. The colour vibrancy and sharpness at 3840x2160 is insane! Gaming on this monitor is also beautiful; Dota2 looks completely different than on my 24" 1920x1200 Samsung. The only caveat is that most video cards won't drive 3840x2160 at 60hz (just 30hz). Make sure your video card supports this resolution. While pricey, it's worth every penny! The colours, wow! My other LCDs look like garbage in comparison.

Excellent 4k monitor!

I first looked at HD and FHD and QHD monitors. One of the ones I looked at was the 34 inch LG UltraWide monitor. All of these suffered from displaying poor text. I was at first reluctant to purchase one of the more expensive 4k monitors but Best Buy had this for sale at [price] and the online reviews were very good so I purchased it. I read other reviews of 4k monitors and found that some people have issues with displaying full 4k at 60hz. In all cases this is because their machines do not have the ability to run 4k at 60hz because of hardware or OS limitations. Also if you are using HDMI or Displayport cables you have to purchase the correct versions of adapters if you require one. I am running this monitor on a Late 2013 MacBook Pro with a Nvidia GeForceGT750M. If you are on a mac you should update your OS to 10.9.5 or higher. The OS X support for 4k was updated and it works great. I used the calibration tool (under colour tab) in the Display preferences to optimize the display settings. If you have never done this before I strongly suggest you do! It is really simple and the results are amazing. The text on the screen is equivalent to my retina display and movies look great. I love this monitor!
