Samsung BD-J6300 upscaling bluray player is AMAZING!

The Samsung BD-J6300 upscaling bluray player is AMAZING! I cannot believe the stunning quality of regular Blurays I have played, including The Marian and Alien Covenant. In the latter movie, 3D details which are not visible in regular 1024 jump out. It is astonishing that such a concept would work so well. And not only that, I never have to buy 4K blurays, which are more expensive than standard blurays. Plus it has an optical audio output which I connected to my Philips sound bar, and the sound is amazing! The only quibble I have is that it sometimes takes a long time to load discs, up to 20 seconds for some. But that is a minor drawback. Richard

Netflix just stopped working

Had it for two years then one day Netflix stopped working. Samsung support gave me some basic silly steps that had nothing to do with the issue (nothing wrong with the network connection - it was clearly something wrong with the Samsung installed Netflix software). It's when I started to research the issue on the Internet I realized hundreds of people had the same issue and Samsung either can't or won't fix it. So my warning to you is if you bought this unit for the NetFlix feature, don't trust Samsung to support it. Buy something else.

It won't play blu ray disc

The regional setting won't allow certain blu ray disc to be played. it is quiet useless to buy a blu-ray player that won't play blu ray disc in the same cityIin which you bought both the discs and the player.

Not 4K oops

I bought this in the local store after asking the salesman if it would play 4K Bluray disks. It does not! The BD-J6300 is prominently labelled 4K UHD Upscaling - this apparently means it plays regular Blu-ray disks by upscaling them to a 4K signal. Very different from playing the new Dunkirk 4K Bluray disk I also bought. It will not play 4K Blu-Ray disks. It is also quite lightweight and appears cheaply made. I'd give it a miss... btw it WILL apparently play Blu-ray 3D disks if anyone still buys them :-)

made after wed

I have had this player for 3 yrs it has been pretty good until now. The only part of the remote that works now is the volume the rest does nothing. I inserted a dvd and it was playing but no picture I pressed stop and kept on going finally after half an hour the disk ejected. Now the disk will play but no remote control access so I figure that's it until it does it again...I only bought samasung dvd cuz my tv is Samsung I will try again....probably was made after Wednesday so I can blame the company besides its just there reputation.

Decent Blu-Ray Player; Mediocre Apps and Interface

I bought the J6300 Bluray player from Bestbuy after Christmas, so three months later it's time for a review. The interface is clunky. There are actually two interfaces, and it takes time to get used to them. You also can't get rid of the recommended apps, so if you don't want Movietime, for example, you're stuck with it as a default. Want to use an SD card? It works, but if you leave it in you have to turn it off every time you turn on the machine if you're using something else. App selection is poor, especially for Canadians. You get Netflix, Youtube and Crave, but no GooglePlay or Cineplex. The Crave app works, but is prone to error messages (particularly if you pause too long) and outright failures. The TSN app has never worked for me. I stream movies via Youtube after I purchase them on GooglePlay on my laptop, but locating the movies is a pain because the Samsung Youtube app has no "Purchases" tab. The machine is relatively fast, and plays Bluray discs effectively. Streaming is also strong and stutter free. If you want a media machine, get a Roku or a Sony Bluray (though neither has Crave). If all you want is a Bluray player and Netflix, then the J6300 will be fine.

Great Blu-ray/DVD Player

I bought the Blu-ray player online and I received it really fast with express mail. It works fine with my new TV. I give it a ,4/5 stars since the the star thing won't work now above. There is no time zone listed fory area. The picture is vividly clear on my new Samsung 4K TV. It didn't come with a HDMI cable.

Makes all our older Blue Ray movies so much better. Easy hook up. Great value for the money!

Top Marks

This unit was easy to hookup and we were watching movies in 10 mins. The upscaling almost makes the picture look so realistic. Very happy with this unit in all aspects.

Stay Away - They don't upgrade their firmware

If you buy Blu Ray players from Samsung, you're in for a nice surprise. In 2 years from now, you'll put a disk in that asks you to upgrade the firmware. They you realize that Samsung didn't create any firmware update in the last 3 years so you are stuck with a Blu Ray that cannot play movies anymore. If you search over the internet, you'll see that they have are renown for NOT upgrading their firmware. STAY AWAY unless you want to buy another one in 2 years.

Effective Blu Ray Player

I picked this older model because customer reviews on other sites indicated that this model was significantly more reliable than the least expensive options of blu ray players that were newer. The blu ray player plays discs flawlessly and the menu choices make sense. Wireless streaming is a little slow so like all blu ray players, you are better off using the Ethernet port to connect to the network. Other than that the player gets the job done and is simple to operate with the remote.

Samsung 3D Smart Blu-ray Disc Player

I bought this Blu-ray disc player to replace an old, non-functioning DVD player. It was easy to set up and functions well. The streaming feature is the best because we can watch Netflix, You Tube and movies. I purchased it on sale and it was an excellent buy.

Not worth it.

Worked for the first year then started not reading a lot of my discs.

LIES. Garbage. NO MKV playback

This model claims it plays MKV files - it does not! It has no buttons on the Remote for Netflix or other Quick-startup of commonly used smart apps. So you have to go through many clicks of the remote to get to things like Netflix or within your own home DLNA media network. It won't work AT ALL through some Surround Sound systems until you turn OFF the Progressive Mode playback setting (you get no screen, so have to direct-connect the player to the TV, disable the Progressive mode, shut it off, then plug it back in to the surround sound system, then turn the player on). This is total garbage. In this day and age, there should be no such hassles, and if an old Sony BluRay from 4 years ago can play MKV, this new model by Samsung should too! Yes, tried running system update and it had no updates to install. Avoid this thing like the plague.

Good Blu Ray player

I bought this and have been enjoying re-watching my music DVDs which are now up-scaled from 480p to 1080p. I had to turn off a few options that's for newer technology big screen TVs, this helped the picture/audio performance when using it with my older Sharp Aquos 46" LCD TV. The fact its future ready for 3D and 4K is a bonus.

Works great

When I first received this Blu Ray player I tried it with some of my music DVDs to see how the up-scaling works. It took a few days to realize some of the settings were for new TVs, mine is an older Sharp Aquos 1080p 46". Turning off a bunch of these Ultra high quality and deep black settings solved a problem of picture and audio drop out. Once I made adjustments I have smooth playback. Unit gets hot at times, really hot. I like the fact that this is one of few Blu Ray players that has a front LED display (Many just have a red LED to indicate power) I bought this when it was on sale for [price] which was its regular price until many sellers jacked the price as high as [price] Canadian. Overall I'm satisfied with this purchase however I wish one day we will see a Blu Ray 5 disc Carousel player.

Just doesn't work

Used HDMI cable to connect no picture just flashing. Called Samsung couldn't find product using serial number or model number. Samsung had to search the web to find player. Couldn't fix problem. Told me to get a new tv. Will be returning to Best Buy within the week!
