Great starter tablet, or for kids!

As far as tablets go, this is good for basic tasks. The 1.5GB of RAM makes it actually possible to have more than one app open without issues. 8GB of storage is very lacking however you can add a MicroSDHC card (recommended) to install some programs onto, as well as for camera storage. The tablet is quick enough, just be sure to buy a case and screen protector.

Tab A

Ordered this tablet was to arrive by Friday May 4 2018.Canada post just left a pickup notice.Had to wait another day before it was delivered to a far away post office.Even know there one 5 mins away from my house.Ten I find out the tablet is a 3 year old model. Not a new one as advertised.!!!

It's good

Took back a crappy Acer and got this. WAY better tablet for the money. Build quality and looks. Yes it's limited on built in space but for what I need fits the use. Can't go wrong with Samsung for the price on sale.

Unfortunately this tablet comes with a very old obsolete operating system (Lollipop 5.1) which cannot be updated. As a result, most of the mainstream newer apps will either not run on it, or else will perform very poorly.

Decent tablet for the price, may have premature battery failure design flaw.

I bought the Samsung Tab A 7 from BB about 20 months ago and recently noticed that its screen is coming unstuck from the frame when the home button appeared to be collapsed below the front glass, presumably from the battery swelling. On my 2012 Nexus 7, the battery didn't swell until around the five years mark despite being in daydream (plugged-in) whenever I wasn't carrying despite seeing considerably more (ab)use than my A 7. Assuming that the Tab's built-in battery voltage monitoring is accurate, Samsung is over-charging its cell to 4.34V, which is 140mV over the maximum (4.2V) that lithium-polymer cells should be charged to, which would explain the premature (18-20 months in, not sure exactly how long ago I first noticed the home button no longer being flush with the glass) battery failure compared to the Nexus 7 which only charges its cell to 4.16V DMM-measured. Can't say I am pleased with finding out that my A 7 is mismanaging its cell, possibly endangering people in a bid to force premature replacements as an aftermarket replacement battery costs nearly half as much as a whole new equivalent tablet. I have an SM-T380 on its way to migrate my Android stuff to, hopefully it won't suffer from the same design flaw.

very little memory space

bought this liked the size. got it home and realized that of the 8gb only 3.8 was available after the features it comes with eat all the GB. I could barely download any apps. tried to stick in a micro usb. good luck as most apps do not allow you to transfer to an external card. very disappointing. would be great if it had 16gb. or if you could use the sd for internal storage.

Don't Bother

Processor is painfully slow. Dont waste your money on this model.

Lollipop ruins it

The build it great, nice hardware but google's tighting of control in android really limits the use of your potential 200 GB of external storage; its very hard to access youra external micro SD. I feel it's more limiting then iOS which is frustrating enough. I would not buy this unit again.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7"

Purchased this tablet at Bestbuy, I've owned the Kobo arc, a Sony, the HP Stream 7, Insignia flex 8 this tab 4 hands down the best, responsive, clear, easy to use, download apps quickly, excellent as a reader, fully recommend this tablet.

  • from Toronto, ON

Reliable, solid build but disappointing

Plays 720 perfectly, 1080 videos will struggle which is fine because the resolution is 1200 x 800 anyways. 8GB onboard storage is really challenging to work with, adding a SD card is a must but only apps where the developer allows can you "Move to SD Card". Many apps force you to use onboard storage therefore you will find yourself running out of space quickly. GF likes it and knows it's no iPad, good for Netflix, Dramafever, reading etc. Web browsing is slow, much slower than your flagship smartphone. Build is nice, and at this pricepoint its a good utiity tablet for bed and bathroom literature that you won't baby and be scared to damage. Battery life is very good. 5-6 hours screen on time, idle on time of many days.

Video stutter issue

I really like this tablet but there is one thing wrong that Samsung has not fixed yet. Video stutters while using Netflix and the built in Samsung video app. I've been in contact with Samsung for a few months now with no fix on the horizon.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7" 8GB Android 5.1

I like this tablet, its easy to use and fast. Good for study and work. Affordable price!

  • from Newmarket, ON

I was very disappointed with this device I feel Samsung has dropped the ball on their tablets. First the wifi kept having to reconnect after waking up and yes I tried everything to fix that issue. Second the 8gb of storage is a joke because about half of that is used by the device. Third and final the screen resolution was bad. I returned it and bought an iPad instead and really enjoy it even though it was a bit more money.

Good little tablet

I use this tablet primarily to fly my DJI Phantom 3. It seems compatible. Has a nagging issue with not linking with my home wifi, but it connects eventually. Has a reader mode and an outdoor brightness mode. Put an anti glare screen protector and have a great e reader if you want.

Met all my needs

This tablet met the needs for our business case. I can't speak to all the functions but it seems like a pretty good tablet for its price compared to some of the crappolla 'cheap' tablets.

Great Tablet

is a great little Tablet, we just needed one for the office and for training purposes, however after using this, our staff are considering buying one for themselves.

Lovely device

the size is good , handy Overall a great device

Excellent Tablet

This is an overall excellent feature packed tablet, especially in this price range. My only complaint is that the screen resolution could be a little higher, but even so, its display in still much sharper than many other tablets on the market at much higher prices. As for the reviewer who gave this tablet a low rating because it did not come with Microsoft office as he expected, perhaps that user should read specs a little more carefully, and/or do a little research before buying such products. Nowhere do I see any indication that this tablet ships with Microsoft Office, despite this user's belief to the contrary.

Almost perfect - quality/pricet!!!

Pros: HD screen, stable, fast enough, android 5.x, decent cameras: 5M and 2M, good wifi, good gps, VERY GOOD battery, 1.5G "built in storage" cons: only 8G, you need a micro SD for your photos and videos and some apps. Sometimes, the screen does not react instantly, but it's still acceptable. It would be "perfect" if there was 16 G memory. Recommended.

Samsung tablet A7 8 gb

Bought this tablet after my Nexus 7/13 was stolen.Should have waited and did some checking around storage is terrible gaming sucks ,streaming Netflix is very garbled picture, music downloads are impossible because of storage ,extra space on card does not help because a lot of apps cannot be moved to work proper .Updates are very poor most androids now run on Android M6.01. Suggest check this better before you buy would not recommend this tablet!

I love I better than iPad 2 but, I think apple is a 10 star rating

Value for the money

This is not a high-end tablet but a very good basic and portable tablet. I use it mainly as an e-reader with internet capabilities. If you want to use it for anything more you should consider other tablets.

  • from Richmond Hill, ON

not a good buy

does not connect to AC 5.0 and due to 8GB it cannot download much of applications and games and even after having external memory still cannot move or make sapce in internal memory

  • from Toronto, ON

Microsoft Office is not loaded

The main selling feature for me is the inclusion of preloaded Microsoft Office. This eliminates the need for extra Android Office reader programs. Microsoft Office was not on the tablet.

Nice tablet..... But NO Samsung Music

This is a nice little tablet, a perfect size to slide in your pocket. The screen is 1280x800 so hopefully the battery can last longer than other tablets. Good camera for pictures on the go Hate the fact that it DOES NOT have Samsung Music, like every other Samsung tablet. You are stuck only with Google Music. If you try to download ANY other music app it WILL NOT install. It's put a damper on my experience with an otherwise alright Samsung product. If you want music in a tablet, go with ANY OTHER Samsung besides this one.
