  • Seagate works for me!

from British Columbia on November 24, 2019

Over the past nine years I have purchased seven Seagate hard drives. A few were usb2, but most have been usb3, and five of them have been 2TB-5TB. For the record, every one of those seven drives is still in play, and all but the newest have been subjected to regular use between two computers and a smart tv. Over the past 20 years I have been digitizing my music collection, over the past 10 years, my dvd collection, and more recently, have begun scanning my family's photographs and slides. Then, as certain drives began to fail, making back ups as well. I'm happy to report that of my four currently failing drives, none are Seagate, and none are as old as my oldest Seagates. I guess I have defaulted into becoming a Seagate fan. The units are generally affordable and good value, so later, as finances became a non-issue, their consistent performance simply implied greater value. I don't use the back up software that comes bundled with the drives, and probably never will, unless the software gives me a choice to simply add files to the backed up copy, rather than deleting from the backed up files, everything that is NOT part of what I am trying to back up. I don't doubt that I am the greatest wrench in the works, but it seems to me that I should be able to add files to my backups, without losing files that are already there. Maybe I'm looking for an impossible toggle. Anyway, good price, good quality that stands up under heavy use (I store nothing on the hdds of either computer in the house, and my music library runs 24/7, and my tv is used to play movies almost exclusively) - what's not to like? Finally, I have an LG C7 OLED tv. They recommend that one not use an external hdd of greater than 2TB. For the record, I am able to play movies directly from the 4TB hdd, but not the 5TB hdd.

  • Slow and won't allow copying document properties

from Montreal, Quebec on November 9, 2019

I don't know what is wrong with this drive but it is super slow. More importantly, I tried to back up files I had already backed up on another drive without problem but received hundreds of errors indicating that file properties could not be copied. There is no manual other than a quick start guide. Hard to find a way to communicate with Seagate from their web site. Not sure what is the effect of the errors but I am not at all pleased with this drive.

  • Small & mighty...

great size with no electrical cord, a huge plus! does the job with ease & has huge storage capacity - what's not to like! I even like the colour...
