- Absolutely avoid for NAS and heavy write uses- 22 janvier 2021
This is an SMR disk (explaining the need for a large cache). Avoid this at all costs if you plan to use it for NAS or anything where you have to copy or write a large number of small files at once (such as the OS drive). Once it fills up the cache, the write speeds will absolutely tank to the 20-200 KB/s range. For comparison, an old ST2000DM001 CMR disk from 2012 still hits 1.11 MB/s in this scenario! - Functional- 14 avril 2021
It stores data as well as a 4TB 5400rpm drive can. It worked with my Dell R520, R320 servers using both the onboard SATA chip (Intel) and the Dell PERC (LSI 9200 I think). Doing the math, it's cheaper to store on 2 of these than it is to store in the cloud for a couple years. Just make to have your off-site backup handy. There isn't much else to say other than it probably does what you expect it to. Don't use it as a boot drive, use it as an archive drive. Hopefully you have 2 (at least).Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
- Incredible drive for the price- 24 décembre 2019
I'v been using Seagate drives for a long time in business and academia (research). It is very quiet and minds it's own business. It does an extraordinary job of signaling a problem and maintaining data integrity. Although the drive is 5400 RPM's, it makes up for with the larger 256MB cache size for excellent. The 6.0 Gb/s transfer rate is very good. I would tell anyone that for the money, it beats others in it's class.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
