- A little loud, but not extremely so- January 15, 2022
Hard part about reviewing hard drives is that you can't speak to how long they'll last. I purchased two for a Synology NAS enclosure. They installed and set up easily, and are performing to spec. The only issue has been noise from the heads. Louder "clunking" than I normally get from drives these days. While it's not "loud loud", it could be clearly heard across the room. I ended up moving my NAS setup to another room, because it was distracting during quiet scenes while watching media. For their purpose, they are (so far) good drives, and I would buy again for this purpose. I couldn't recommend them in a machine at your desk, or an exposed media server near your TV. (and I cannot answer if they are both loud or just one due to the RAID setup)Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
- Great drives- April 10, 2020
I have 6 Ironwolf drives loaded in a QNAP TVS-x72XT. I have had them for over 86 days continuous. I have added over 10 TB in a raid 6. The health status is good on all drives, disk access good, disk I/O is good, smart information displays correctly, and daily/weekly check have all completed in good status. As for noise issues - I don't see it as an issue. Some times you might hear what sounds like a water drop hitting a sink. The noise levels a definitely in the good level for in the office or on desk top. In my opinion.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
- Unbeatable bang for the buck!- May 2, 2020
I've had a long history with Seagate drives over the last 15+ years that have kept me too cautious. While the failure rate of larger capacity drives are way lower compared to their infamous 3tb series, thes Ironwolfs are incredibly fast and sustainable. If you're concerned about lifespan (read-write cycles of the drive over a lifetime) check out Backblaze's block (cloud backup company) as they publish some interesting statistics based on their own research and industry-wide studies.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
- NAS quality hard drive- September 6, 2020
If you have a system to back up your files, phone, iPad, etc., at home, then you could use a drive like this. I have a Synology Network Attacked Storage device that allows one to add drives or replace drives when one goes bad. Since it runs all day and all night, you want drives that are built to run 24/7/365 and not ones that are meant for a PC that gets shut down when you aren't using it. Ironwolf series is highly rated.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
- They deliver but LOUD...- September 30, 2021
These replaced two 3TB WD Red's in my QNAP NAS which were whisper quiet in comparison. I am not sure if it is because they are 8TB so the increased size is noisier but the disks are very noticable when any data is being R/W to them. I would not say annoyingly loud but certainly noticeable. Otherwise they perform well and no drop in performance when I am moving large video files back and forth.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
