Failed out of now where. Still tons of space left. No where near the full 2TB. It's with a tech guy being repaired now - hoping to get info off of it. He says it's an awful company so many people have been bringing them in and to buy Western digital external hard drive instead. I legit bought this 6 months ago brand new. I am in night school and cannot lose my files.

Failed randomly after 14 months. Rarely gets moved around and never carried to places outside home, so never gets banged around.

- disappointed in this product and support

I purchased this to be a backup device for my laptop , I used it for a few months with no issues backed up files and used the drive without any problems Using my usb3 port and getting good transfer speeds , then decided to finally start to transfer approx 600 gigabytes of data using a cut and paste method in windows 10, it was going fine for approx 45 minutes and then seemed to stall , thinking this was normal I left it alone after leaving it for about 4 hours i went back to remove the drive and noticed that it was still sitting at the same file location. So as you guessed all the files that were transferred and all the existing data on the 2 TB drive has been completely lost worst part the website for support gives no real utilities to check the drive , was stuck with the basic windows check disk and it reported the drive needed repair and scan , and also that did not work . As for seagate website they have an option basically the same cost of the drive to send it in and try to recover the lost data. needless to say it is not worth the money as I still have older backups on older USB ext drives . Now comes the hard part dealing with Seagate to get a replacement without the receipt..
- Utter piece of junk
from Kitchener, ON on August 9, 2018
Used it to backup our personal files and photos. Then it just decided to become unreadable after 20 days or purchasing it. Could have returned to the store for an exchange, but it had a copy of literally all of our personal data on it, which might become available to a drive repair specialist. So we decided to eat the loss and destroy this useless object of painful regret. What a waste of money!!! Buyer beware! Seagate sucks!!!

- Worked great - then didn't.

There is a "cheap" feel to these drives and I found out the hard way that they aren't made very well. The sides bend in and it just doesn't feel like it can take a hit. Almost too thin for its own good actually. I was backing up music files and suddenly it just quit. I've tried disk utilities and other repair applications. It's just toast - only three months old! I've never encountered this with a Western Digital drive and I'm going back.
