Its tough to find a noise cancelling headphone that someone who does not wear a suit feels good wearing! These are amazing in style and fit, the perfect headphone when you just want to shut the world out!

  • review of my review

Hi best buy, the review I spent quite a lot of time writing and got posted here has all its structure and style removed (no spaces and paragraphs, headings got mixed up in text), so it makes it incredibly hard to read. Please fix that, otherwise it is a complete waste of time.

  • Writing and reading in noisy spaces without losing focus - Skullcandy Venue

from Burnaby, BC on March 7, 2019

Short version: Positive: Good sound, good noise cancellation Negative: volume bug when noise cancellation is on, a bit big, after a while they get uncomfortable Conclusion: I would buy them again, despite the cons. Long version: Context: I have these headphones for a month now. This is the first pair of over-ear headphones I own, I normally wear cheap ear buds. Why did I choose them: I needed headphones primarily for study purposes (Ph. D. student). Background noise like traffic, leaf blowers and construction noise severely impacted my focus so I looked for reasonably priced noise-cancellation headphones. I bought a pair when they were on sale at Best Buy. Sound: In the beginning I had to get used to the Venue headphones. It felt like like the sound was unbalanced, as if more music came out of the right side than the left side. Now I am wearing them often, I get less annoyed by it. I think the unbalance is more noticeable with rock music than with instrumental or techno. After initial annoyance, I really like the sound quality now, and I can get totally lost in songs. Noise cancellation: Like mentioned in other reviews, there is a slight hissing sound when the headphones are used solely for their noise cancellation while not connected to a device. However, I learnt that if you connect to a device and not play any music, the hissing disappears. So it is perfectly fine to use them solely for noise cancellation (silence). They block the sound up to ~80% I would say. buzzing, monotone sounds get cancelled up to 95%, but more variable and high pitched sounds are still audible, just less loud (e.g. voices, crackling chips bags, honking cars). Volume button bug: There is a weird bug that when noise cancellation is on, the headphones become more sensitive to changing the volume when using the buttons on the side. The volume can suddenly jump up a few levels! This is another thing I got used to, so now I just press the buttons more carefully. I don't think this is a reason not to buy them. Using buttons: In the beginning I needed to get used to the buttons. They're not very intuitive so I had to take off the headphones to find the right buttons. Again, over time it is bothering me less. Comfort: After an hour and a bit, I really need to take them off because they squeeze my ears. I don't see this as a negative thing because generally it is time to take a study break anyway. I just hang them around my neck. Size: The headphones are a bit big. In the case, it fits in my standard student backpack with a 15 inch laptop, a novel and notebooks. The headphones do not completely fold up, but they can be flattened. Connecting: I have only positive experiences with connecting to devices. If I walk away too far from my device I lose connection (~10 meters away with two walls in between). Overall conclusion: I am happy with the headphones. Sounds irritate me less when I wear them. They are not perfect but if I had to choose again, I would choose Skullcandy Venue.
