Bought this speaker and was thoroughly excited as it came highly recommended by several friends who have it. Followed instructions to download app....signed up and app told me that my email was already being used....hmmm....tried going in then as already signed up....said it did not recognize password....would send password instructions to email....nothing came....even checked trash and junk. We tried 9 more different emails and 4 different people tried to sign up with app on their devices (all apple devices) and apparently all the emails were already in use. You would think that in this day and age Bluetooth - Bluetooth and done but no....makes me very weary to try anymore SONOS products
The setup is definitely a bit more time consuming than with the HomePod, but as long as you can download an app and follow instructions, you're good to go. Great sound, especially when you pair two of them. I was looking for something with good sound at lower volumes, since I live in a condo and can't blast loud music, and the Sonos 1 does that job perfectly. Alexa is a nice added touch but I didn't buy them for that feature so I don't use it much. For me, buying two of these for stereo sound vs one HomePod was a no brainer. I'm loving them and have no regrets ... although I still do want a HomePod for another room.
The speaker looks great and sounds decent for a small speaker.
Setting the speaker up was a pain in the rear. A couple details:
1. The speaker and the Sonos app struggle to find each other when they are on the same network if: your phone connects to a 5ghz connection on your wifi as the speaker uses 2.4ghz. If you have smart steering on your modem you will likely have to create a manual rule for your phone's Mac address to connect via 2.4ghz
2. Don't get me started on the trouble with the presence of a guest network or connecting via a computer on the network that is sharing a wifi signal to extend the network.
3. The Sonos app has no return to main menu when you get caught in a failure to discover speaker loop. I had to reset the app several times - the app is buggy.
4. If you need to move the speaker from one network to another you will struggle setting it back up without resetting everything. Even after you do, the latent information in the Alexa app about the speaker means Alexa can talk on the speaker but still needs to have the Sonos "skill" added again to actually perform any task.
If you have a 2.4 ghz network, no guest network or extenders and you set the speaker up on that network the first time, you should have no trouble at all. If however you set it up somewhere else first to get it set up (a gift?) you may need to restrain yourself.
I was so excited to finally own a Sonos product only to disappointed after the setup. There is hardly any bass and I even raised the EQ Bass setting to 100% but still sounded dull. Tried pairing with other AirPlay 2 devices and there was such a latency issue that I gave up, factory reset it and returned it within 2 hours. I ended up throwing in an extra bit of money and got a second HomePod and wow, talk about day and night, the HomePod has such a deeper/richer sound.
I purchased this Sonos One recently and love the sound! The set up is very simple. I do; however, suggest you do your research. Ensure you have a music platform that can play the music you want to listen to as not all services are available for voice control in Canada. But again, great sound...and after all it is a speaker, so it does what it should.
I have bought other brands of speaker over the years (Bose, JBL, Bang & Olufsen) but the sound quality on the Sonos One is truly amazing!. The fact that Alexa is now functioning in Canada is also a huge bonus.
If you are looking for a small "smart" speaker with incredible sound, this is definitely the one to buy!
The set up is sooo easy on the iPhone Sonos app. Took very little time to set up with very easy to follow instructions!
Knowing what I know about this speaker now, I wouldn't have purchased it. The app is confusing to use and you must use the app to play anything through the speaker. Also note, as one example (I'ms are there are others), you can only stream Spotify if you have a PAID SUBSCRIPTION. Unlike connecting via bluetooth where you can send basically anything to a speaker, you cannot send anything to the speaker unless through the app so there are many many ways in which this greatly limits what you can play through the speaker. I like the sound of the speaker but I won't recommend this speaker to anyone until Sonos improves the flexibility of what you can play through the speaker and also until they make the app HUGELY easier to work with and more flexible.
