The Sonos Playbar is a wireless sound bar that floods your room with big, bold, full theatre HiFi sound. The powerful nine-speaker design in a phased speaker array lets you enjoy high-quality audio that matches the direction of the on-screen action. Setup is simple, and with Wi-Fi connectivity you can easily stream your favourite music.

More Information

Great sound you can personalize

  • Nine built-in speakers are set up in a phased speaker array, which adds "directionality" to your audio; if two cars collide on the right side of the screen the sound will come through on the right side speakers, while the left side speakers play the inverse of that sound
  • PLAYBAR's Trueplay feature adjusts sound settings for the unique properties of your room, so you can enjoy the best possible sound for music, TV shows, movies, and games
  • This versatile speaker can be mounted on the wall or placed on a console or table under your TV

Easy to set up, easy to use

  • Use Night Sound when you don't want to wake the family at night; it enhances quiet sounds at lower volumes and reduces the intensity of louder audio
  • Setup is simple with only two cords (a power cord and an optical cord to connect to the TV), as well as the Sonos app that walks you through each step of the setup process
  • PLAYBAR is able to learn the IR commands of your current remotes so you won't have to add clutter to your coffee table

Enjoy audio how you want, where you want

  • Stream music wirelessly by connecting PLAYBAR to your home's Wi-Fi network
  • Expand to full, wall-shaking 5.1 surround sound by adding some more Sonos speakers like PLAY:1, PLAY:3, PLAY:5, or SUB
  • Place Sonos speakers throughout your home and you can enjoy the audio playing on your TV in any room, in perfect sync, or listen to your favourite tunes in any room
  • Enjoy great-sounding audio from a variety of sources, including gaming consoles, cable and satellite boxes, and Blu-ray players

Works with Amazon Alexa

  • Voice control your music by telling Amazon what to play
  • *User must own an Alexa enabled device

Impressive sound

This item was purchased in-store during Boxing Week sale, to replace an old Bose 3.2.1 system. Because we now live in a condo and want to be good neighbours, we were looking for a speaker that would deliver the best sound possible without a sub-woofer. We listened to the premium sound bar at a Bose retail store and were a bit underwhelmed by the bass output, compared to Playbar. 5 weeks after purchase, we are still extremely happy with our choice. It has a rich, room-filling sound with crystal-clear dialogue and enough bass to satisfy our tastes. Sonos is easy to set up and add speakers for a more immersive sound. No complaints with the app. Have not tried Apple Music yet, but Stingray Optik TV sounds great.

Why it's good but not great for the price and why I'd recommand you'd try something else

After quite a busy 2018, I decided to offer myself a much needed upgrade for my T.V sound system and skimming on the web for an option and after looking at the possibilities, I decided to opt for the SONOS playbar, which I'll explain why I so regret my choice now in the sense that you can have what I'd quality as way better options for the price even though there's some qualities to that product. All in all, the bar has some qualities; - the design is in my opinion quite stunning and when you do touch and manipulate it, you can feel that it's made with quality material. - The sound is overall very good for the price you pay, which is another solid quality when you're looking for a playbar. - The playbar is quite easy to install via the APP; it's as friendly as it can be. -NOW... there are some solid bummers that do come with it. The first one is that the only way to play to use the playbar is via the APP. As stated above, is the app is great to sync speakers together and to install, it's absolutely terrible for all the rest. At least, if you're an android user. I did skim the previous reviews and from what I read, it seems like the App used to be quite something many moons back but did detoriate seriously in the meantime. If you want to, say, use the playbar to play music, you'll realize that the Sonos app is at best a very bad music player compared to the real good apps to play music that we do have on the market at the moment. How come is that? - Also, there's really no way around the app; there's just no bluetooth on the device, which is a bit flabbergasting when you consider that there are some solid competitions around the block who offer that. That means that 1) for any other use, you gotta use the SONOS app which is terrible at playing things and that 2) you're stuck with that "digital mini jail"; without the app, that beautiful and pricy playbar is completely useless. Despite the solid design and the very good sound, I consider that the whole experience is then a bit disappointing and to be honest, there's then many better options over there, like the SONY or the BOSE playbars who offer as well stunning designs and a sound that's comparable (perhaps slightly better but not significantly) BUT where you're not stuck at using a poor playing app if you don't like it (Bose for example makes a better playing app albeit not as friendly to install and if you don't like it, there's the bluetooth option). Do I recommand? Well, if you're sold to SONOS and that your whole house is SONOS based, perhaps it's worth it, otherwise, you have way better options for the same price here.

Best Sound - SONOS Out Performs BOSE

Do not listen to the negative comments because they simply are not true. They must have poor internet Wi-Fi or sub-standard TV equipment or both. Maybe they simply do not know how to setup the SONOS properly and I have no problem with my Blu-ray Player playing concert disks through my SONOS system. I have the full system; sound bar, sub-woofer, and 2 satellite speakers. I have no connectivity problems with my WI-FI and when I crank up the volume or lower volume the sound is awesome. I have a Samsung 4K 55" curved screen Smart TV and absolutely had no problem setting up my complete system with the SONOS App. My Blu-ray player with my many disks of rock concerts sounds incredible from my complete SONOS system. Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon - Pulse Tour is mind blowing!

Great sound, but...

Bought this amazing sounding soundbar back in the summer time, and it has proven its worth (way better than the Panasonic and Sony models we previously owned). One issue, though -- BluRay players. I have not been able to find a way to get a BluRay disc to play sound via this speaker. When I did some web searching on the subject, and it appears that Sonos does not play DTS, and that is what BluRays usefor sound. I have not found a workaround, so now I have this nice collection of discs that will not work on this speaker. A shame really because it says right on this site that it does work with BluRay players. If only I found out earlier, I would've been able to exchange this unit before the 30 day return policy expired.

sadly, zero stars is not an option

if you want rich, dynamic sound in a device that is simply 'plug and play'... don't buy Sonos. Straight from the box, this device is hard wired to both the TV and the power outlet, and that should be sufficient when using any Sound Bar, right? Nope! This system will only function properly if it can maintain a stable connection with a wi-fi device (like a tablet, phone, or computer), and that depends on many external factors. So, if you live in, say, a CITY, or a CONDO... then there is going to be A LOT of interference that makes connectivity an issue; if your Sonos Controller App can't connect to your Playbar, it doesn't matter that it is hooked up to your TV by a wire and power is flowing uninterrupted... you won't hear ANYTHING.

This was a gift to my husband to replace our much used and appreciated Bose Sound System. We were not convinced at first that the sound quality could replace or even match what we already had at home. We are still experiencing with the system but have found it so much more user friendly - we control the sound level , the music choice , the TV from our tablets, computers and soon our phones from anywhere in the house. We like the access to all the selection of music and the ability to play souround sound or not. It's an investment but at the moment, we no not regret it --- so much so, my hubby already bought two Play 1 to go along with the PLAYBAR...On that, maybe our choice would have been to go to a Play 3 but we're still satisfied with the system. The PLAYBAR alone is remarkable.

Worth It

Tried this and the Bose product - same price. The Sonos didnt sound that great in the store demo, but it was very apparent it had a great surround effect. The Bose had great fidelity in vocals during the store demo, but was a bit thin, and very little surround effect. Both demo'd without subs on. I tried the PlayBar at home as the reviews were were a lot better then the Bose. Once home, I was surprised how great the Playbar sounded at all levels. Sounds great for music and movie dialogue + effects. Bass was OK, but lacking the fullness my previous system had with a sub. The internet radio streaming and ability to play FLAC files on my NAS made this a versatile component. Purchased this to replace a much costlier and complicated home theater setup. Added the Sonos sub the next day, and the pair produce awesome musical sound, as well as movie effects. I was also impressed with the way the sub integrated acoustically. It just sounds like an extension of the Playbar as opposed to an overbearing add-on, but it has the chops to put out effects in action scenes. The way the Playbar projects sound - especially after running the room calibration procedure, gives a very realistic surround experience. Very pleased with the Sonos, and not going to miss my old system.

Great Product

Great Product. Great sound. I have it in my large living room which opens up into my kitchen. I was worried about the sound but it is amazing. Music is even better!

Best decision I've made in a while

I"ve set up home theatre before, and so was looking to do the same again in a new house. Then a salesperson showed me a Sonos home theatre set up (with this soundbar, a Sonos sub, and two Sonos Play 1's as rear speakers). Sounded great, but I was sceptical. Did the research, and realised I could eliminate the need for a receiver, and speaker wire. From the second I took it out of the box it was clear that this was a serious piece of hardware. Heavy, clean lines, simple elegant look. Paired with a Sonos mounting bracket, I had it up on my wall in minutes. Connected with an optical audio cable to the TV (which Sonos thoughtfully includes) I was watching TV with great sound right away. The app on the phone took me through hooking up the other components quickly, efficiently and without a hitch. Now whatever component I have playing on the TV (I have a PVR, apple tv, and both a blu ray and an HD DVID player) they automatically play over the system. Heck, the volume control on the remote for my PVR worked on the system, without me having to do a thing. PLUS, I can run anything on my phone through the system. Music library? Sirius XM? Spotify? All of them play through the system (in 5.1) with a tap on my phone. And it sounds great - good distinction in the back channels, options for highlighting dialogue, or keeping things quiet at night...Can't say enough about how great this system is.

Awesome system!!!

I had purchased the Play 5 originally and now have added the sub, playbar and 2 play 1's. System offers easy set up, if certain T.V 's don't easily sync upon set up the Sonos support is amazing and will help solve all issues. Ease of streaming music and turning home into a totally synced up system or listen to different music in another room is just the swipe of a finger. With a master volume and ability to adjust individual rooms is another great added feature. Great system/company and look forward to new items in the future!

Sonos PLAYBAR Sound Bar

Added this to my current SONOS collection along with the sub. Very happy with product, sleek, clean, professional. You pay for what you get. Worth the money. You will not be disappointed.

Sonos sound playbar

The Sonos playbar sound bar is amazing just on its own, even though I bought the rest of the speakers for the surround, the quality is excellent.

Sonos Nice but is it worth it

I used to be an advocate of Sonos. I think they had a nice product. My first purchase was about 4 years ago and streaming devices were limited. I truly loved it for it's time. Now the recent price jump makes me wonder if the value is still there. Lets face it there is lots of ways to get audio to quality speakers these days. The sound bar is good but if you want base you really need the sub. Now that 1800 +tax Want real sound thats another 500 for 2 play 1 Now your at 2300. Want dts...then you either the right tv that can pass that or you need to by a spitter box with optical out. Now 2400 dollar. So is that expensive. Even then remember you may not have speaker cables but you do have to have power. Heos may be not as good at some things...but 1000 dollars verses 1800 should make you question what your goal is on the device. Goal...listen to TV (better than TV quality) and play streaming music service. Do your research and don't read to much into reviews. Listen for yourself Today's amps can be controlled by apps. Speakers well that's to be determined but I know there are tons of better speakers than Sonos. Also you need two sonos for stereo separation to be worth it. Double those speaker prices.

Was in the market for a new sound system and TV. Decided on the Sonos and bought the 5.1 package. Easy to install and great sound. Works really well with my 55" LG OLED TV. The app works fine. The volume control is not consistent with the sound level setting; - it varies, but no big deal. Bought stands for the rear speakers which are a new designed, improved product according to the box. However, the paint on the speaker brackets flaked off! It appears to have been touched up at the factory but it didn't hold. All components are separately priced, and there is is no package price. :-( There should be a saving if you purchase all the components. Pricey sound system but great if you can afford it. I've delayed my retirement!

Sonos Playbar good with Sub Incredible!

OK, bought the playbar. Good clean but boring sound. Enjoyed the convenience of the controller app but wasn't crazy about the overall experience. We decided to add a sonos sub and bam! S!@& hit the fan! love this beast, wish it came as a packages pair. otherwise couldn't be happier.

My 1st Sonos product. Along with the Play:1s was to replace an existing sound bar w/o the wires, etc. I did not purchase this for the streaming; this was to be used for TV, Gaming, Movies so cannot comment on its 'core' functionality. Very well built, packaged, easy setup - was exciting to set it up. I knew it did not support DTS but figured Dolby Digital would suffice. Fired it up with some Hi-Res music, first impression - sounded like bacon (sizzle). There is very little to adjust on this bar, ie you cannot change sound fields or even just get it to simple 2 channel stereo. Had the wife listen - nope, found the sound 'offensive'. Concluded it was their attempt at making the bar more spacious sounding that the constant processing did not result in a good sound at all. Surprisingly disappointed, back with my old bar for now. As always, excellent customer service at BB.

I was originally looking at the 200-300 sound bar range and had ruled out the Sonos Playbar as it was more than double my budget. After taking a closer look at the Sonos Playbar and all it's features and ease of use I made the jump. Yes the Sonos is much more expensive but that fact of the matter is because its such a great product, both speaker and iPhone application, I see myself using it far more than simply a sound bar. Not only has it dramatically improved the sound from out tv but also given us a unbelievable sound system to listen to both music and podcasts. Looking forward to purchasing more SONOS speakers once I save up some money.

Love the audio change

Purchased this product in 2014 and I have loved it ever since. Anyone with a flat screen should be aware of the limitations when it comes to sound from the default speakers. Awesome picture, but garbage sound. Purchased the sound bar since we had tried another SONOS speaker. Love the sound that comes out of it and the ability to play music wireless from the NAS, or online music sources. It is not just sound for your TV, but sound for many other things.

Very Disappointed!!!!

I bought this as a birthday present for my husband in November 2013 - and subsequently have bought 3 other Sonos speakers for him as presents to start to create a sound system for our home. The Playbar worked wonderfully for 19 months until June 6 when it suddenly stopped working. Nothing happened to it. It worked fine one day and suddenly did not turn on the next. We did not move or touch the speaker, there were no electrical outages or surges in our home, etc - it simply just stopped working. We followed all sorts of instructions to try to get it to work but eventually Sonos customer service told us it's a "hardware malfunction" and that it was irreparable and because we were beyond the 18 month extended warranty there was nothing they could do to fix the problem for us. And when we looked on the internet we saw that we were not the only people having experienced this problem - there were lots of other people reporting this sudden issue. Sonos eventually acquiesced and offered to replace it for us for [price] plus shipping and tax. But until I probed and questioned them hard they did not mention that this replacement was a used/refurbished unit and that it would only have a 90 day warranty. My only other option is to go and buy a brand new one at full cost. I think it's terrible that I paid a premium for a product that I thought was well made by a company that stood behind their brand. I have been a loyal customer having bought and registered several Sonos products over the past 19 months and was shocked that this was the kind of treatment that I got from them. When I pay [price] for a speaker I expect it to last longer than 19 months. I would not recommend this product in particular nor this brand in general to anyone - it's not worth the risk.

I have had Sonos products for about 4 years now and in that time I've had absolutely no issue with wifi connectivity - over multiple set ups and wall thicknesses. Some people tend to blame the Sonos for perhaps a fault in their wifi setup or even router... If set up correctly then it actually creates its own separate mesh network (Sonosnet) that provides a dedicated network for any Sonos product - all that needs to be done here is that one device needs to be hard wired to your router (either the Sonos bridge or the device itself). As far as needing a remote; the playbar does allow you to set up your programmable tv remote (most remotes permit reprogramming of the volume controls). Other functionality is obviously controlled through the app or if your luck enough to have the old stand alone controller then that will work too. Sonos is obviously a bit expensive but it is solid reliable and, I think well worth the money. I'd recommend it over any competing product out there.

Incredible Sound

Only two things wrong with this system. It is a bit pricy and it does not come with a remote. Not everyone has a smart phone or a tablet. Another thing I asked the sales rep at bestbuy if it came with a remote and he said yes. I would return this if I didn't have a smartphone. Sound quality is amazing. We live in a condo and will be purchasing a house very soon so the fact that I can add several speakers to different zones is a huge plus.

Great product but I agree with other review regarding Wi Fi. Sonos is tempermental.

  • from Mississauga, ON

Easy to install and set up. I love it and use it every day.

many choice for that money

if you consider this sound bar, make sure you have a good wifi network. Otherwise, this is useless without it. But for those want home audio network, its great to have. easy to add on subwoofer and surround speakers for extra money. after all the extra, there is many option in the market with great sound quality while you pay the extra for network only.

  • from Hamilton, ON

This is a great addition to any TV. I have not heard such great sound. It was so very easy to set up. It took about 5 min. I will recommend this to anybody.
