I am reviewing these on behalf of my daughter who just got these a few days ago. I own the Bose QC35 and these sound so much better than the Bose! Noise cancelling is about the same, but the bass is much stronger, but doesnt take away from the mid and high range. The sound you get from the Sony is much richer than the Bose.
As far as comfort goes, they both are very comfortable to wear for long periods of time. I dont think one has an advantage over the other in that regard.
The Sony app is much more feature-rich than the Bose app as well.
For the same price, I would say that Sony delivers more for your money, making it the better value over the Bose.

Superior Active Noise-Cancelling
The Sony WH-1000XM3’s are by far the best noise-cancelling headphones I have ever used. They drown out a lot more noise the my Bose QC25’s ever did. Even without music or videos playing I noticed a great reduction in outside sound. Example my room is in the basement so I have a constant exhaust fan running which can be a bit loud, and it just sounds like white noise. While music or videos are playing I wasn’t even able to hear myself tapping somewhat loudly on my desk… let alone my fan. While wearing my Bose QC25’s my exhaust fan was a lot more noticeable when no music or videos where playing. The Sony WH-1000XM3’s are a power house when it comes to noise-cancelling.
Outstanding Sound Performance
Sony WH-1000XM3’s continue their amazingness with sound quality. Listening to music and watching videos feel like an absolute treat, I can hear things that I never heard while using the QC25’s. At very few points I found the bass would be a little to heavy, but it was easily fixed adjusting the volume. I found myself more engaged in whatever I was doing wearing these headphones.
Great Battery Life
I mainly use the WH-1000MX’s on my iMac so I am not using them all day, going back and forth. I am able to get about 3 days of usage before I need to fully charge them. Now that is more than the 30 hour charge Sony claims. Very impressed.
After putting these on for the first time and after the first time I forgot they’re even on my head. They are extremely comfortable. Even wearing them for an hour or more I didn’t need to adjust them or take them off.
Some may say that they look very basic.. but that’s what I like. I don’t need some flashily headphones. The touch controls are very simplistic too, sometimes they can be hit and miss but that’s few and far between in my usage.
Fast Bluetooth Connectivity
Bluetooth connectivity with the WH-1000MX’s is super fast. Never had to wait more than a few seconds to connect to either my iMac or Samsung Galaxy Note9.
Quick Charging (USB-C)
You can get a full charge with 2 hours or so (give or take a few moments) and a fifteen minute charge will give you five hours of battery life from “Low Battery” status. I also like how they charge via USB-C.
Single Device Connectivity
While this was a bit of a disappointment especially from a higher-end company and a somewhat steep price point, to only be able to connect to one device at a time. But as I said before the quick connectivity to bluetooth kind of makes up for it.
Very Short USB-C Cable Included
I don’t know why Sony would include such a short cable.. I guess so they can fit it inside the case. Sony stresses to only use it’s provided cable to charge the WH-1000MX3’s so using a longer cable is not a good option. So when you need to charge the headphones (depending on your charging method) you will need extension cord to plug in the wall charger. Also if you are choose to charge the WH-1000MX’s with a wall charger make sure it says 1.5V or more. I was lucky enough to have a Sony Handycam which uses an 1.5V wall charger.
Some minor annoyances (on iMac)
The first annoyance was when I first paired my headphones to my iMac (running Mac OS Mojave), I noticed the sound wasn’t very good. Everything sounded somewhat muffled, after doing a bit of research I figured out that the Bluetooth Active Codec must be set to aptX in order to get the best results, but it was set to SBC, luckily I was able to f
These are simply amazing...they sound incredible, USB-C charging (finally), top notch ANC, and great app for Android to tweak settings and EQ. Best you can get as of today, lets see what Bose does next though. But until then I will rocking these for some time, and cannot recommend these enough.
All the following is a direct comparison to Bose's superior QC35 II

usb-c good on ya sony for paying 4 times more to please ur customers
10 mins of charging DOES give u 5 hours of play time, it's true! and 30 hours on a full charge!
The sound is amazing and good quality Highly Recommended
sony did not designed them that well and they have lose ends that when activating the noise cancelling features it sounds so loud its annoying.
These headphones are expensive.
If you are willing and able to spend the money, you won't regret your purchase!
Bought them today. Charged them up, connected them to my phone, used them for 10 minutes, updated the firmware and now they won't work. They won't even turn on even after trying to reset and initialize. Spent over an hour talking to Sony Tech support, no help. Oh and Best Buy doesn't take returns on headphones...
Sound quality is excellent for bluetooth. Not quite as good as my Sennheiser HD600's with a quality amp, but very good. Have not tried LDAC yet, so the sound quality may get better with a better CODEC. Noise cancelling is unbelievable. Someone was standing right in front of me talking fairly loudly and I could not hear a thing.
