I'm returning it for a replacement

I've had this sound bar for a few weeks. The sound quality sounds like a louder built in tv speaker system. The subwoofer effect is almost non existent for regular tv or Netflix, etc. The sound from this unit in store is really quite good - so I know what this unit is supposed to sound like. I wish to get another unit. There is no way that this particular unit is 'normal' sound. I can play it full blast and it has virtually no bass! I've read dozens of online forums and watched several YouTube videos. I don't appear to be the only person with these concerns. So, I will replace the unit and if I find the same issues - I'll buy another brand.

Perfect Companion to 4K UHD TV

Purchased the HTNT5 on promo with a Sony XBR 900E 4K TV. Also picked up a set of ZR5 rear speakers for HT surround. Initial set up of the soundbar/sub was easy, adding the rears is a bit of a pain but once everything syncs up, it sounds great. Movie soundtracks have full range of all sounds, nothing overpowers anything else highs vs lows. Sub is powerful enough, works better on hardwood floors than carpet as carpet muffles too much. Overall very happy with everything.

Nice unit but not worth the money

Unit is very nice looking, gives great sound and works perfect with the TV. The sound bar and sub lose connection quite often. It was frustrating at first but I have figured out how to fix it. Still shouldn't happen especially with a Sony product. My wife misplaced the remote now I can't adjust the sound bar anymore so I have to purchase a new remote. While I like the unit I don't think I would buy this sound bar again.

Very Good: multi room feature is a huge bonus

I picked this up just over a year ago along with a pair of srs zr5's to complete my discrete surround sound system. I was originally looking at the Sonos system however it was difficult to justify for double the price so I took a gamble on Sony and was not disappointed. In a medium sized room the sound is very good for movies in surround mode and music in multi room mode. The multi room feature (similar to what Sonos offers) is great once all the speakers are updated. It was pretty buggy early on but, I assume though updates, it has drastically improved. I have since purchase another Sony srshg1 portable speaker to further expand the multi room function. I would definitely recommend this product along with the other Sony WiFi speakers that are compatible. At half the price of Sonos it definitely exceeds expectations.

Pretty good

My wife and I have had this sound bar for about eleven months. It has been reliable and it sounds pretty good. Pro - Looks great, - sounds pretty good, - Bluetooth works well, - reliable. Con - Sound quality is merely adequate, not great - compatible Sony wireless speakers to add surround are overpriced.

Follow up

Just following up with this. I received my repaired unit from Sony and it it's broken again within a months time. I have requested a refund again that was refused by Sony however, I will be receiving a new unit maybe it will last a little longer. Save your money and time and look at another brand.b

Worked for about 100 hours

Purchased unit on boxing day and did not set up until May 1st. On May 17th the device had stoped working properly and is stuck on a please wait message. I've contacted Sony and they have offered to repair the unit. I would advise anyone to stay away from this unit because of this issue.

Stopped working after 2 months

Purchased this in January 2017. Suddenly stopped working over the weekend and have to ship it to Sony to repair. Best Buy was of no help since it's been over 30 days. Wouldn't even exchange it for a working unit of the same model.

Stopped working after 2 months of use

Purchased this item in mid January 2017 and it suddenly stopped working after 2 months of use. Did not purchase additional Best Buy warranty as I've done in the past as I've never needed to take advantage of it. Now Best Buy won't let me return or exchange it since it's passed 30 days. Horrible product and even worse customer service.

Very good sound, but difficult to get Google cast consistently

Very good sound. Spotify works well with it, but had a lot of difficulties with Tune In radio (via Google Cast) and so had to return it. If you don't use the remote, changing the input source with just the unit is difficult (the touch interface is not very sensitive)

Adequate Sound

The sound bar looks great attached to the bottom of my new 65" Sony 4k television and the sounds is fine but it seems like the low end sub woofer sound really doesn't kick in unless you are watching movies or DVD's etc. I tried increasing the sub woofer volume up to #10 of 12 but not much difference. I used to have a 52" Samsung with their sound bar and it seemed to have better low end sound quality. I have that TV set up in the family room now!.

Sony HT-NT5 review

Pro: This sound bar produces great sounds and has amazing bass. And has also three HDMI out put which most sound bar lack these days. Con: If you are willing to pay it now it will be a bit too pricey Overall: This sound bar have Bluetooth, NFC and more functionalities .

Great sound when it worked but I found the instructions, support, WIFI, APP and Bluetooth features to be below the standard what one would expect in 2016. Took it back after it stopped working after a month.

Sony HTNT5 400-Watt 2.1 Channel Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer

Great sound bar. Using it with Sony 75 inch 4K tv and SRSZr5 speakers for surround sound. Easy set up and great sound.

Really glitchy

The subwoofer dies (stops making sound) almost daily requiring a power cycle to get it working again. The soundbar doesn't always function the same and jumps between hdmi and tv sound modes which makes no sense as none of the connectors had been touched. Had two in a row with the exact same problems. Will not consider Sony products again.

After much research I picked this model for 4K and HDR pass through. It also looks great and has all connectivity available today. For sound though I found the highs too bright, sometimes almost overbearing and the sub is underpowered. Dialog is great, especially compared to my other recent LG Soundbar which sounds much fuller and richer overall but dialog is very mudded and need to use caption...

Hi res audio

Great sound bar. Get it to use on my TV, the sales showed me the Hi res audio demo. Great sound on flac format music. Love it.

Excellent sound quality and versatile connectivity

The soundbar offers superior music sound quality thats uncommon for soundbar products. It performs well with movies too, enough low for my personal taste but may not be enough for people who like very boomy sound effect. It has intuitive menu and many connectivity options, incl hdmi, optical, line-in, googlecast, spotify connect, etc. It also supports all common surround sound codecs and wireless rear speakers for a true surround sound experience. The only downside to me is the rear speaker options are all quite expensive now.

Promise Unfulfilled

I bought this to replace a high-end 5.1 home theater system that I cannot fit fit into our new home ( a condo). It promises the ability to switch between 3 HDMI sources by remote, hook up to the home network and the internet by Ethernet or WiFi to play music streaming services or my own networked music collection and to do a good simulation of surround High Fidelity. It also has Blutooth that can stream music from mobile devices or send sound to Blutooth headsets. The price is high for a sound bar, even with the wireless sub-woofer, but if it could fulfill these promises, it would be well-worth the price. The sound bar is a sleek design, at home in a modern entertainment centre. The sub-woofer is also well finished and substantial. It was easy to set up. I hooked the HDMI output (clearly labelled) to my 50" Pioneer plasma and Input-1 to the cable box, Input-2 to the Bluray player and Input-3 to Windows computer's HDMI output. Cable TV worked as expected after I figured out that the "TV" button on the remote actually turns off the soundbar audio and lets the TV handle the audio with it's own speaker. Switching the soundbar to HDMI-1 shuts of the TV's own sound and uses only the soundbar. Input-2 (Bluray/DVD) also worked as expected but HDMI-3 only produced an error message (in the OSD) of "NO HDMI SIGNAL DETECTED - PLS CHECK YOUR CONNECTIONS". This source did work fine when plugged into another input and no source would work when plugged into HDMI-3. I contacted Sony's technical support for advice and they advised doing system reset from the system configuration menu and failing that, send it to a Sony repair shop. There was no RESET command in the configuration settings. I could only resort to "manual" input switching, by hand changing plugs. I was used to a rich, immersive sound field produced by a high powered amplifier driving large solid speakers that could handle all the power, yet produce full, rich sound at low volume. Compared to that the Sony NT5 was weak and anemic at normal listening levels. The speaker on the TV sounded better, though these old Pioneers are known to have good speakers. There was no feeling that it was surround sound. The quality of the sound improved substantially at high volume, but I don't think my new condo neighbors would be appreciative. I eventually decided I would have to get a compact amp and some good (small) speakers and took the Sony back to BB.
