Overview

The Inklings are back, and they're taking the colourful splatterfest to a whole new level in Splatoon 2 for the Nintendo Switch. In this vibrant and chaotic 4-on-4 action shooter you can engage in Turf War battles while you're out and about with friends. You can also jump online and compete in frantic, colourful battles with opponents all around the world.

More Information

  • It's been 2 years since the original Splatoon, and 2 years have also passed in Inkopolis so you'll see new designs for fashion, weapons, and gear
  • Play your way: choose to dual-wield the new Splat Dualies or go with the tried-and-true like chargers and rollers, which have been remixed with new strategic possibilities
  • You can engage in the popular 4-on-4 Turf War battles or try other game modes like ranked battles, fighting Octarians in a single-player campaign, or defeat waves of Salmonids (2-4 players)
  • You can evade being splatted with the new Dodge Roll move
  • Classic weapons Splat Roller and Splat Charger have been enhanced to include new gameplay mechanics, and all special weapons are brand new
  • For the first time you can compete in local multiplayer Turf War battles, or you can take on opponents from around the world in online battles
  • Use the Joy-Con controllers or the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller (sold separately), both of which support motion controls for precise aiming
  • Updates will roll out post-launch, giving you new content and in-game events
  • An upcoming smart-device application for the Nintendo Switch will allow players to set play appointments with friends and teammates, as well as voice chat with friends during play sessions
  • You can connect up to 10 docked systems (8 players and 2 spectators) through wired LAN (additional accessories required and sold separately); this lets you create local Private Battle tournaments with no need for an online connection
  • Personalize your Inkling by choosing from a selection of weapons, clothes, headgear, and shoes; choose carefully because the gear offers different boosts in battle
  • Use any Splatoon amiibo figure to have that character appear in the game and befriend you; if you befriend an amiibo character they'll remember favourited weapons, gear, oufits, and option settings

Awesome!

I remembered playing the first Splatoon and loving it! It consumed my entire summer of 2015! Splatoon 2 is pretty much the same! I can't play it as much, since I'm working, but any time I get home or on my days off, you can bet I'm playing it! It's great in comparison to the first one. A lot more stuff to do in Story Mode. Salmon Run is hectic, but super fun. And usual Turf Wars and Ranked Battles are spiced up a bit with new weapons and specials. If you liked Splatoon, you'll probably like Splatoon 2 a lot too. And if you're new to the Splatoon series, it would also be a good start for you, since the Story Mode is a good intro to the weapons, game mechanics and all that stuff. It's a really good game!!!

No local multiplayer

Bought this game to play with my wife. We tried to find the way to play it in local multiplayer, to find out it does not have one. Can't return the game to Best Buy because we have open it. Poor game design that we need 2 games and 2 consoles and 2 televisions to be able to play together.

Great Game But Typical Nintendo Blunders

The game is great, however the netcode is brutal, the actual server tick rate is only 15.75mhz so there's plenty of being killed after the fact/around corners etc. Matchmaking is also really poor at the moment since you will often be paired with completely afk or disconnected players. There's also the odd baffling design choices which are very frustrating, like not being able to change gear between matches (you have to exit right out each time), not being able to easily play with friends (you can but have to wait for a spot to open, which takes 5 minutes, and then you might not even be on their team) and certain modes being time-gated. Plus the whole "can't skip the intro" gets annoying. When it works it's a really fun game though, I just hope Nintendo actually listens and fixes things because if they expect people to pay next year for online when this game has the lowest tick rate around plus is peer to peer hosted, they are going to get grilled over it.

Are you a Kid or Squid? I still don't know.

Didn't play the first Splatoon so I had to try it out on the Switch. This game is stylish and addictive just from playing online. The only way to play local multiplayer is if a friend has another Switch and a copy of the game. Stay fresh and buy this game.
