- I loved it!- December 27, 2019
I loved it? Then why only the four-star? Well, as a Star Wars Fan, I've loved every episode out, even number 1 with Jar-Jar Binks. As always, and to be expected, the special effects are great, though not unexpected. Characters are rather flat and predictable. Mark Hamill continues as Luke Skywalker, but his acting seems artificial and contrived. So, while I love Star Wars, I can't give it a true 5-star rating because acting is inconsistent, plot is predictable, and nothing in the special effects department is groundbreaking. (If I was to be totally honest, if you're not a Star Wars fan, this movie is more realistically a 3-star feature.)Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
- Not my SW any more- June 23, 2018
Let me begin with the 4K copy review: I honestly couldn’t see much difference in the 4K and what I’ve seen in regular Blu-ray. Maybe it’s just this particular movie but the Wow Factor really wasn’t there, and I watched it on my five month old 4K HDR LG tv using my new LG 4K DVD player. As for the movie... I’m very disappointed with what Disney has done to the franchise, from expecting us to believe in bombers in space (Hello! No gravity!) to traveling in open space with no suit or oxygen or anything, I mean come on. Even in sci-fi there are rules. I was hoping that they would improve upon SW7 but they didn’t as far as I’m concerned. What a pity. No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
- Very Good, Not Quite Great- April 6, 2018
The Last Jedi isn't up there with the best of the Star Wars movies but does stand on its own as a very good film. It takes up where The Force Awakens left off and advances its story lines. The home release has both 4K HDR and Dolby Vision versions so which one you'll see depends on whether your TV and UHD disc player are DV capable. Each format provides an excellent image. The audio, while good, should have been better. Volume has to be cranked up significantly to get the full impact of the Dolby Atmos sound track. If you are a Star Wars fan and have all of the movies in series, you will, no doubt, add The Last Jedi to your collection.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
- One of the best- April 6, 2018
Despite many fans claiming it's the worst thing to happen to Star Wars since The Phantom Menace, I actually very much enjoy The Last Jedi. It goes places the other films haven't while still keeping with tradition. Although some moments do feel questionable, I still feel it's visually and narratively one of the most thrilling in the series. Much of the criticism from fans is absolutely exaggerated, but I do see where some of it is coming from. It does do some unusual things and tends to make some risky moves, but that's why I enjoy it. Not your typical Star Wars film, but that's what makes it interesting. Excited to see where the next one takes us.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
- Fascinating Disneyfication- April 27, 2018
The direction Star Wars took after The Empire Strikes Back has never satisfied me. Lucas missed the mark far to often. After the prequels I gave up on any emotional investment in the franchise. Doing so has been the only thing allowing me to enjoy any part of Disney agressivly pushing their messed up taste. Sadly after this movie having killed off most of the original characters I could care less what Disney does. They can call it Star Wars but the last real Star Wars Movie was Empire. Happliy this movie having luke in it redeemed decades of Bantha Poodoo. I agree with Mark Hammel, his character (Luke) would have been better played had they listened to him.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
