  • Awesome camera, well worth it
Verified BuyerReviewed by Gungrave - November 21, 2020

I recently was involved in a crash where the person who caused it ran, though he was still caught by the police. Since then I decided to buy. Dash camera and picked this one. I’ll admit this one is expensive , but well worth it. When researching cameras, I found you literally get what you pay for. If it’s cheap, it’s cheap for a reason. It could be because it’s lacking features and/or is lower quality video. The quality on this one is ridiculous. The rear camera is great also. I can literally zoom in on a car and read the tag of a car in front of me. With this setup (front and rear camera), you’ll get everything you’d want. It even records audio if you choose and can speed stamp the recordings as well. It can also be connected to the internet and track your routes. Plus it has parking mode as well. Though I’d recommend getting the radar and possibly the in car battery as well. You can’t use parking mode without the camera being hardwired to the car and the battery makes it so the camera draws from the battery before it draws from the car battery and it lasts for supposedly 48 hours and only requires roughly 2 hours of driving to completely recharging it. Also since the video quality is so high, you’ll want a 128GB MicroSD card also. So again, the only downside would be that this setup is so expensive but it is well worth it. These are the prices I’ve found for each part for the camera: Front and rear combo ~ $500 Motion radar sensor - $100 In-car battery ~ $250 128GB MicroSD ~ $50 Hardwire install ~ $100 I also attached a few photos from the cameras.

  • Hyped and buggy

Bought this during my search for next dash cam after using DOD LS460W for 5 years. Summary: 1. Video quality is good - much better visibility of license plates than my current camera. Rear camera seems to work well. 2. Because the lenses tilt is fixed, the lower half of the video is just vehicle hood. 3. Timestamp on video files tend to vary - not sure why, but sometimes the hour changes by 1, sometimes not. This is disturbing the order of videos on disk, confusing and drives me crazy. 4. Parking mode, the MAIN reason I'm looking for new camera - VERY VERY NOT RELIABLE. Sometimes the video is recorded, most of the times not. I was playing with this for couple of days, bought another HYPED expensive toy - RADAR, that didn't change the behavior of the parking mode AT ALL. Camera of this price should be working flawlessly. 5. Mobile app is convenient feature. Live view is handy. File download is slow. 6. The camera have notification of events happen during parking mode which is ok, but please make is quiet when there are no events! I don't need to hear every time I start driving that GPS is connected and wifi is active and all other staff. Bottom line - The camera is going back to store. I still need reliable parking mode.

  • Great Front/Rear Pair for Pickup Trucks
Verified BuyerReviewed by EdInNJ - October 31, 2021

High quality images, excellent control choices for what you choose as “events”, and nicely self-divided folders for organizing them. Had some difficulty connecting my Samsung S21 Ultra phone to the unit but Best Buy was able to help me get the network settings reconfigured. Unobtrusive camera mounts and wiring but have Best Buy do the installation: they know how to hide and connect the wiring harnesses. My pickup has a sliding center rear window and they were going to mount the rear camera off-center, but for the few times I use that window it is easiest to center the camera and simply unplug the rear cable when I want to use the window.

  • wifi to phone only
Verified BuyerReviewed by Someexperience - January 4, 2020

Before I bought the u1000 I called thinkware to confirm it could connect directly to any WiFi I had the password for and that is not from a cell phone. I was told yes. I bought it so i can see what car door hit my car in the parking lot while it was happening and other things. Now I know it can only connect to WiFi with a cell phone. So unless I leave my cell phone in the car, I can’t see through the camera. Also, unless there is a big enough knock on the car to cause an event storage on the disc, I would not be able to see a door hitting my car. Storage is not enough to keep all non-accident recorded so minor accident recordings would be lost.

  • Great dash cam but very poor storage!
    Verified BuyerReviewed by Azs1 - June 12, 2021

Great video, front and rear. I would have given this U1000 5 stars except for the limited size of the micro SD card size of 128 GB. You would think that for this price and the very high resolution that leads to very large file size that they would have allowed a 400 GB micro SD card or larger! I love the dash cams, but hate the limited storage ability. Storage cards larger than 128 GB have been around for many years, but Thinkware is too slow to upgrade the storage which should have been upgraded along with the video resolution. Very disappointed with this aspect of the dash cam.
