Quit working after 10 months

Screen turns off after three seconds from turning on power. No support from manufacturer or Best Buy. Complete waste of money. Very disappointed.

Screen going black

Bought the tv in Nov of 2017. Worked great. Then the TV screen went black with sound in August 2018. Called Toshiba 1855-527-2411, they recognized the issue. They turned the call over to Geeksquad Canada. Its been 6 days and I have not heard from Geeksquad. Visited local store and informed me tv tech is 7 hours away.

Unsmart TV

Not only is it a lie that it's a smart TV, but the built-in chromecast is broken. Google refuses to address the issue because the version of chromecast is so old, toshiba refuses to address the problem because they say this is a best buy television, and best buy in typical fashion won't address complaints. Search on "chromecast 1.22.78594". It's a buggy old version that the tv updates itself to whether you want it or not, so if you don't mind factory resetting the television and setting up cast again every time you want to use the feature, by all means waste your money on this. It appears no one is actively supporting the television and the problem will never be fixed.

Disappointed in this TV

I read some of the negative reviews but decided to buy this Toshiba 50" TV anyway. Sometimes people tend to be super critical. After two months, the TV screen went black although there was sound. After awhile, the TV just turned off. I called Geeks Squad and they told me somebody would call in 3 to 5 days. That is just not good enough. Best Buy should replace the TV because it is only 2 months old. So I would definitely NOT recommend purchasing this TV.

Randomly factory-resets, turn off button is hilariously dumb

I have this TV for 6 months and in the last month it reset itself to factory settings, twice. First time I thought it was due to my infant son messing around with the remote, but the second time it was completely without our interaction. Gone (again) is all my custom configuration of OTA channels, inputs and image settings. The button on the side doesn't work like power-off buttons, which either just turn on/off immediately or when you hold it for a few seconds. You have to press it very down to the middle and wait; nothing happens until you lift your finger. If you release it too early, the input menu pops up; pressing the button again alternates between the inputs. You have to wait until the input menu goes away to try again. I learned to count 3 seconds or something and only then releasing, sometimes I still don't get it right. Why doesn't it turn off just by holding the button? Ridiculous. Many reviews complain about this not being a Smart TV, which is dumb because nothing on the advertisement says it is. Which is great, there are so few TVs that are just good displays, without the slow, cumbersome "Smart" interfaces for YouTube and Netflix that need internet updates constantly. I'm giving one extra star just because of that.

Good picture, but did not last 1 (one) year

Bought the TV to replace a Sony. Picture is good, and has enough inputs for what I need. But with not even one year of use it decided to die, call Geek Squad, who tells me to call Toshiba, who then give me a service code, so that Geek Squad can call and set up appointment! Talk about a convoluted system! May have to avoid these BB "exclusives" in the future

Second Toshiba tv and very happy

Have had this 4K for almost 3 months now and almost trouble free. the HDR and 4k are beautiful. upgraded this from a 40"Samsung and find this one much nicer to view. setup was pree easy, and only gripe is at time the Chromecast doesn't hook up. This is the visual part of my over 5grand system. when watching a tv program I use the tv speakers and I must say the surround sound is very convincing except for lack of deep bass of course. View the tv many hours a day and it doesn't get very warm on the back or top. all in all I am very happy with my second Toshiba 4K. too bad they don't make a 65".

Great choice for heavy Chromecast users.

If you're a techsavvy person and know how to fully utilize Chromecast, this is a great choice, it's Auto-Standby mode means you will be going from 0 to streaming within seconds, without having to turn the TV on with the remote. However, this is not your so called "smart TV" with an interactive menu that people expect. Picture quality is standard for a 60Hz.

Just bought this TV so far LOVE IT!

The sound is UNBELIEVABLE I got goose bumps when I first heard the sound! Make sure to adjust the PICTURE QUALITY and settings it makes is look even more INCREDIBLE! You can adjust the sound for what you are watching!

Not too Bad, what you pay for

Bought the TV for black friday, included a wall mount + soundbar. Started seeing a few reviews and was mish-mash, and got worse as time went on. As for the TV - good up until 2 weeks ago when the backlight went off. Called Geeksquad they had a guy down to check and BB is new offering a store credit to take the tv back. TV wasn't too bad. it is NOT 4K and some of the HDR doesn't show much on TV. However you have the right movie, you can see deep and clear, but there are times it's not that great. Played a bit with the setup, but it didn't do much. TV is ok for my small apt, but pretty sad it died out. Also, TV is very light, so real easy to move. Suggest to buy if you just need a TV, but see if you can get a bundle (as I did) or else i wouldn't go out to buy this alone. If you really looking for depth and all the bells and whistles, DO NOT buy this as it will not be it, you will be upset, etc... simple tv.

Don't buy this terrible TV

It was great for 2.5 months, then it died. Bestbuy thinks 2.5 months is a long time and refuses to offer any support. Stay away.

Don't Buy This TV

Bought this for my parents as a Christmas gift in November. As of today, the TV won't even turn on. Even with the GS Warranty, it's been a hassle. We called GS and got routed to the US Customer Service centre, only to be routed back to the other call centre to be told that someone has to come into the home to try an repair it before replacing it. Won't buy another product from Best Buy or Toshiba.

TErrible TV

Broke after 4 months (vertical stripes) and now Bestbuy is offering a poor consumer service. I spent 2 hours on the phone and I couldn't even reach the right place. The official phone on the receipt is a USA customer service and they don't offer any service to Canada. DO NOT BUY BESTBUY exclusive products, because the customer service is very poor in that case.

Great TV

Bought this on sale. Have had it for a week. Upgraded from a 1080P set. Definitely like the better picture and the sound is awesome. I have yet to use it to its full 4k resolution, but I already see a more realistic smooth picture. The apps are easy to use, my son loves Netflix and Youtube. Would definitely reccomend this product.

Very poor quality of image and sound. Stripes all over the screen after 3 months

Don't buy this TV ! IT's NOT SMARTS It has poor quality. The image is not a dream 4k, the sound is also poor. Bought this as a second TV but now I have a TV full of vertical stripes.

no sound when IP box connected

I bought on friday, and trying to sort the sound problem. when you connect your IP box you have a good picture but no sound. I searched the internet but couldnt find any solution. This happens with Samsung TVs also. There is no problem with apple tv and rogers box. I tried all ports and different HDMI cables. So be aware when you are buying one.If I cannot sort it out I will return it sadly.

  • from Montréal, QC

Just ton forget if you just have image and not sound with an HDMI input device to eventually switch from 2.0 (default on the machine) to HDMI 1.4 in Option in the TV

I planned to buy smart TV a year ago. I waited for the offers but my disappointment was great. Smart tv was written on the bill and in the store.. I will be returning the TV within days.

Not a smart TV

I bought this TV thinking it was a smart TV. Nope. Its a semi Smart TV. You have to use Google Home. The sound also didn’t work with my Android box. Took it back to the store in less than 24 hours.

Not a Smart TV - Don't be fooled

Disappointed to find out that this isn't actually a Smart TV. You cannot access any apps or any browser functions from the TV itself. The chromecast feature is neat and would be great for party's, but the TV is useless without an external device. Ended up getting an android box to turn this regular TV into a Smart TV. I went back to the store to ask the salesperson why they call this a Smart TV and he said it's not considered one. I asked him if he thought that the way it is advertised is deceiving, but he didn't seem to think so. Picture quality is decent, but definitely doesn't live up to the hype of 4K HDR. If I didn't buy this on sale for a decent price I would be returning it.

Not a smart TV. just add a chrome cast to your Standard TV

Very sad to note it will not play movies off a USB or HD For some reason the TV switches to 4.3 aspect randomly about 3x a month, unsure why. display is good, but sound is not great. requires a sound bar. personally I,m disappointed I wanted a smart TV so I avoided Roku, but got caught with this pos. buy a smart tv or a standard TV this is neither of them. best of luck.

Great 4k TV

I am surprised with built in Chromcast , this new smart things that Toshiba add and plus the picture is very beautiful compared with more expensive 4K TVs like : Samsung and LG . I recommend this for who looking for non fully smart TV but it has a great 4K Ultra HD picture.

Amazing tv for the price

I purchased this tv to replace my beloved Pioneer Kuro 5020fd which cost more than 3 thousand dollars in 2009. A tough act to follow as the Kuro panels are considered even today to be one of the best pictures on a tv. I got 750 for my Kuro and was able to pick up this tv for 596.00. I only sold the Kuro because it's an energy hog. I set this tv up yesterday and tweaked the picture and sound and I am blown away. Black levels are excellent and even at this price you are able to tweak the picture and sound sufficiently..The one issue I did have was with syncing up the audio with the video. It was slightly out and I realized the problem was caused by having the audio clarity processing on high. After turning this feature off the problem disappeared. Overall I give this tv a 10/10. Considered the 55" but it was 300 dollars more...not as good a deal as this one.

4K that looks like 720p

We have the 43" version of this TV and it sucks. The cromecast does not work very well. The black levels are not very good, and the colors dont pop. If this really is a 4K tv its not very good, i have an older 1080p that has better picture. I wanted 4K for cheap so i picked one up and well, you get what you pay for. spend a few extra hundred and get a better tv.

Love it. It works great. easy to set up especially the chrome-cast with my phone in one simple step. Great deal

  • from Gatineau, QC

Good for the price!

Good sound and display. The remote does not have numbers on it so can't chose the channel you want. It takes some time to connect the Chromecast (don't have anything to compare it to though).

  • from Québec, QC

Excellent rapport qualité/prix

Le seul défaut est que la graduation du son est très rapide, ce qui réduit les choix.

  • from Toronto, ON

power function

@the other davidchou, tv turning its self on is not a defect. It sounds like you have too many devices on your home network that you are unable to untangle. Check your receiver networking, your phone apps, chromecast etc

Fantastic TV

I love it so much. Picture is more than great. VEEERY Easy to install. Chromecast is beautiful (no streaming). Your mobile is your remote. WOW.
