Whining sound

This tv would be good except it emits a whining sound whenever it is on. You don’t really hear it when you are watching tv but if you have the tv on and not playing any sound (ie. pausing a movie) the sound is very irritating. It is not a fan sound, rather a high pitched whine that gets louder the longer the tv is on. I hope I just have a lemon and that it doesn’t affect all 55L510U18 models. I will be returning the tv because of this constant sound and looking into buying a different brand to hopefully avoid this issue again.

Keeps freezing.

Received this TV as a Christmas gift 5 months ago. In March i got Netflix and every other day now it will freeze up and it takes a good 5 minutes to reboot (sometimes having to unplug it to turn it off). It has also started to do the same thing with You Tube. Super annoying. Picture quality is ok and the initial set up was alright too.

Failed after 15 months

Toshiba hasn’t made TVs since 2015, this product is a Best Buy ‘rebrand’. I would have given this 0 stars but you can’t. Bought this TV on Black Thursday in 2016. About 3 weeks ago it developed a vertical line of dead pixels about 16” long and growing in length and width. This TV is 15 months old. Best Buy won’t do anything because the manufacturers warranty has already expired. Luckily I bought this TV with my VISA card and I am using the extended warranty thru the card. The most interesting part of this whole story is that when I called a repair shop to get a repair estimate they told me that TOSHIBA HASN’T MADE TVS SINCE 2015!!!! When you call the Toshiba customer service line they tell you the same thing and to call geek squad!!!! So the repair guy told me that Toshiba hasn’t produced TVs since 2015, but Best Buy has bought their ‘name’ and is producing these TVs with some cheap knock off parts. Bottom line is don’t waste your money, buy a Samsung instead. You definitely get what you pay for. Visa warranty is a hassle but at least I’m getting my money back. No thanks to Best Buy. I Won’t buy anything else there after this experience. Luckily there is a smaller chain in town who price matches.

Don't Order Online

Shipping took 3 weeks, showed up broken, was told a week for a new one to be delivered. After a week I had to call and was told it would be another week to 2 weeks for delivery. Won't let me exchange in store even though they are in stock. So who knows when i'll actually get a working TV. Best Buy is usually great but won't be ordering online from them again.

Toshiba 55" 1080p LED TV

Purchased a week ago to replace a Sharp 50" smart TV which lasted only 2+ years. Thanks Sharp...now on my naughty list. Firstly, I do not have HD cable service (my signal is 480i). Don't need it. Secondly, I do not stream programs (Netflix, etc.). Don't want it. Just needed a basic TV. Set up was easy and, with any new TV I have ever purchased, some tweaking to picture settings was required for my personal preference. TV picture quality is very good for my circumstance. Running recorded movies/TV series thru my BR player (upconverts to 1080p) yields excellent picture quality. Very pleased with this unit, 'on sale' price was amazing (for a 55" LED TV).

Good TV

I purchased this tv to replace a 40"Sony Bravia. I use it for streaming video via a computer, android box and channels accessed by an indoor antenna. I'm very happy with the tv however it does not have good reception on the antenna, the Sony was far better. Also as mentioned in another review the factory settings needed to be adjusted as it was initially very hard on the eyes. Reducing the backlight and contrast solved the problem. Nevertheless I've improved the antenna and with the picture settings adjusted, I'm enjoying the new tv.

Very Impressed, Highly Recommend

For a 1080p television, the picture quality is some of the best I've ever seen. I picked this model to replace a Sony 4K that died after two weeks, and having seen both sets in action with various types of media, I'm convinced the Toshiba is superior despite being 1080p. The factory settings need some minor tweaks to adjust sharpness and contrast, which are quite high. I'd also recommend switching the colour temperature from "cool" to "neutral/warm" to enhance skin tones. Once calibrated to your tastes, the picture quality is smooth and crisp across the board. The sound from the built-in speakers is quite nice, as well. I expected it to sound tinny and lacking in bass, but so far, no complaints! I'd recommend using the "movie" setting instead of the pre-set "standard", as it has the best balance overall. The set itself is light-weight, easy to unbox and simple to set-up. I'm not a wall-mounting person, so I used the provided stand, which is easy to attach and more than sturdy enough to support the TV. As far as connectivity goes, I use a Roku and haven't had any issues. All streaming services, including Netflix and YouTube, have worked perfectly and look very nice. After owning and returning a 4K Smart model, I can honestly say I prefer the operation, set-up and overall interface of the Toshiba 1080p television with added streaming devices. There are no issues with loss of signal strength or loss of connection, and a weak signal from the Roku will not prevent the television from working or broadcasting other media like a 4K Smart model does. I know most tech-savvy people will swear by 4K technology, but in my experience, the Smart technology is insanely buggy and unreliable. The Sony 4K model I returned simply didn't have the hardware to make the technology work; loss of connection is a common and pervasive problem that is often permanent, essentially turning your 4K TV into a 50-pound paperweight. I'll take a manually-calibrated 1080p television over a 4K Smart set any day. I am beyond pleased with this purchase, and I'd highly recommend picking one up before 1080p models are taken off the market.

Very Happy

Very happy with this tv. Was looking for a good non-smart tv to hook my roku up to. This tv has great image and sound. Nice size too, it looks great in my living room. Very easy to set up. Much happier with it than my last tv, which died after 2 weeks.
