Great Value

Bought one in 2017 and bought another to go downstairs in 2018, based on our experience with the first. We use them primarily for watching TV through laptops and have the downstairs TV hooked up to Blue-Ray. Excellent picture for such a reasonably priced unit.,

Good value

Purchased the TV online on sale and I am happy with it. I found the preset picture and audio settings out of the box were not great but after about 10 minutes of playing around with adjustments I found the perfect settings for my setup. I’m really happy with it now. Delivered in less than 24 hours and I was able to physically set it up by myself (I weigh 95lbs and that was important to me!).i can’t speak to longevity of the product but honestly, it’s inexpensive comparatively so I’m being realistic. If I can get a few years, I’ll be more than happy.

Crappy TV with crappy components

Owned two of these. Both died in under two years. Can't find tech data or schematics for it either. Very disappointed with Toshiba. Just another overpriced piece of junk that's designed to cost you more money in the end. Stay away.

Excellant tv great picture

Purchased to replace a smaller 40inch, purchased mainly to watch DVD and blueray movies in our basement rec room. Perfect size for the room . Great tv for the price.

  • from Montréal, QC

Great value, great picture and sound

I was surprised by all the negative reviews on this unit. We've had it for more than a year and it works great. It cost half the price of our 8 year old Panasonic HD TV (which is excellent), and it has a nicer picture. No issues, great picture and sound, especially for the price. I recommend it.

Poor quality TV, even worse service from Best Buy

TV failed after 5 months, turns on but does not have a picture. As a previous reviewer said, if you have any issues with your TV, be prepared to spend hours being bounced between Best Buy Canada, Toshiba Canada, Best Buy US and Toshiba US, none of which actually seem to want to let you speak to an actual person. Once you press the magical combination of numbers that summons a human, none of them know what they're talking about, leading to more bouncing around between different phone numbers. Save yourself the time and money, buy a decent TV made by a decent manufacturer, sold by a local TV shop that actually cares about their customers.

Not a Smart TV, fine... But I wasn't expecting a DUMB one.

TVs have been able to play MP4 and DivX video for literally a decade... It doesn't need to be "Smart" to do this - just "normal". ZERO media capabilities apart from pictures... Having a USB input on this is just misleading. I'd return this without question.

Don't waste your money and time

Set it up, worked fine. On the third day, we tried to change the channel but it seemed frozen. Turned it off, and could not get it back on with the remote. We unplugged it, waited the customary 3 minutes, then turned it back on using the manual power switch at the side of the tv. The screen was fuzzy, and a "Retail Lock" message was displayed. Since Toshiba does not offer customer support via phone, we had to research how to get it unlocked. Nothing, including the 1-2-3-4 unlock code, worked. Bought this as a Black Friday deal. We have only had it for 3 days and we will be taking it back tomorrow. Should have known that you get what you pay for. Do youself a favor and spend a few extra dollars and get a reliable tv (i.e anything but a Toshiba),

Not recommended

We bought a Toshiba 50L420U TV. It lasted for six months, and then showed overall green color with the video that require warranty repair. It was not easy to get warranty repair, as we did not buy Geek Squad extended warranty or protection plan. Took me 1.5 hours on the phone going back and forth between Best Buy U.S. and Best Buy Canada before I got warranty repair. All along, the TV also sometimes lose channels spontaneously and require re-scanning to regain the channels, and sometimes the audio and video go out-of-sync, requiring switching channel back and forth to make audio and video in-sync again. I bought a Sony TV before from Best Buy. Sony TV also didn't last long (~3 years) before it had problem with the screen being jumpy, but Sony TV showed better picture quality when it was working well, and didn't have problems listed in the second paragraph above. When I buy a TV again, I might go with Sony instead of Toshiba, even though Sony is more expensive.

Nice TV

Picture is very good. Sound quality is not bad either, although I'll be using a sound bar. Arrived within 24hrs!! Excellent job Bestbuy!

  • from Wolseley

Don't Buy

Not sure why everyone is saying this T.V. has great picture quality because it is terrible. Bought this t.v. at Best Buy yesterday for my Mom because her other t.v. stopped working. Will be taking it back as it has the clarity of the picture is the worst I have seen. My Mom does not need a smart t.v. so thought that this would be a good fit for her but spend the extra money for a better quality.

It is really nice tv for this price, I certainly recommend it :)

  • from Dartmouth, NS

I recently purchased this TV and have been very impressed. It is easy to set up and adjustments are very easy and uncomplicated to access. Many years ago I had a 14" Toshiba TV as my main entertainment in my house and after many hours of use it was still working fine when I replaced it with newer technology at the time. In short, Toshiba TV has always been for me totally trouble free and has great longevity.

Great buy. I ordered on line and It was delivered when best buy said it would.

As Advertised

The display needs tweaking when using with different devices. However, one can always google these things to find the best picture settings on any TV.

Toshiba LDL 49" Flat Screen

Excellent television, a pleasure to watch! Easy home set up, as first requested Geek to initially set up, however the first appointment was for July 20th, 2017. Three weeks after delivery of television. Instead, I took my own initiative and completed the job myself, saved the install fee, all is working wonderfully !!!

Pleased With Purchase

This TV is really good value. With HDMI cables, the resolution is great. Very easy to unbox and setup. I purchased a high-quality ROKU streamer, and now the TV is "smarter" than most other "smart" TV's. In addition, since the streamer is modular, if I need to replace the streamer, I don't need to replace the TV. Toshiba is a great brand, and this TV satisfies. I'd purchase another one if I needed another one.

Screen broke after 5 months

Screen broke after 5 months. Spent hours with Toshiba & BestBuy support to finally get a return after complaining. I would worry about the quality of Toshiba screens... Great quality, connectivity and performance otherwise. This is not energy star so the idle mode is sucking power.

Free Gift from Telus

This is the TV that Telus gives as a free gift for signing a 2yr contract with them. Havent received it but just wanted to get reviews and how much it actually was lol. Impressed Telus would give away a nice tv for being loyal!

Samsung 49" LED

Would recommend. Easy to setup. Connected cable box and blurry using hdmi cables. Works fine.

  • from Langley b.c.

Not bad

Got it on sale for a good price. Sound is good, tv is very light and slim, good styling, has slim borders. But the colour rendering is poor, highlights are washed out, colours are way too saturated, doesn't look very good. Luckily, I don't care enough because it was cheap enough, so it still gets 4. But if you are actually investing in a single tv, walk away from this one you'll likely regret it

Toshiba 49" LED TV

The delivery is on schedule. The TV is easy to install. In general, the color is good. While this is not a smartTV, no much expectation is on its functionality. I hooked it up with Rogers' HDTV, and an external media player device. works great.

  • from Oakville, ON

TV is OK but not happy about the image quality

TV would be great if not for one flaw. It has acceptable picture only in the Natural mode. If you try Dynamic or other modes but natural you'll notice that much color distortion occurs on people's faces. Faces become much too dark to see their details while highlights appear burnt out. Not pretty at all. I also have Samsung TV that does not cast so much color distortion when switching to Vivid mode. If not for this oddity would make a great TV. Glad I caught it early will exchange.

Does the job

I am not a "techie". I purchased the TV based on brand name and price. I was astonished at how light it is. I almost fell over backwards when I picked up the box. The picture is clear and sharp. I have checked out some of the setting, and have decided to leave good enough alone. Sound quality is very good. Unless something catastrophic goes wrong, I would likely look for a Toshiba for my next TV purchase. Why four stars? I don't have the expertise to identify any possible downsides, and someone else can make a better decision as to whether to leave it at four stars, or perhaps up it to five.

Customer service and quality

I am happy with the tv but had issues with customer service as I got the run around and no issues resolved but when talking to manager I did feel better on leaving but all in all I would go back as I did write a review already thanks

  • from Gatineau, QC

This TV rocks!

My parents have a Toshiba TV and they love it so I decided to get this one for the apartment I just purchased and it's awesome, such a good price. I didn't want a smart TV so glad I found this one. Picture is great and the sound does impress me.

  • from Saint Thomas, Ont

Great TV, Great Price

I had a upgraded to this Toshiba, I had a Sony Bravia Lcd and what a big difference! Rich colours and great brightness! My only problem is backlight bleed sometimes at the top of my screen, only see it on standard def satellite commercials so far though! Also I play my Ps4 and Laptop via hdmi and I love the quality and recommend this TV over a smart TV, I also bought a roku player wen I bought the TV and turned it into a smart TV. I dl movies and TV shows and stream it on my network thru the media player on my roku/PS4 and don't have to worry about connecting via hdmi every time I wanna watch my downloads. All and all great deal on this Toshiba 49L420U

vary good picture

  • from Dollard-des-ormeaux, QC

I finally upgraded from a 32" HDTV to this 49" and so far I am quite happy. Good picture and sound quality. Only blemish was a small amount of backlight bleeding at the bottom of the screen. One other minor issue is no component connection. My fault for not checking as I took for granted that it was included but still would've been nice to have one. Pros: easy setup, good 1080p and excellent sound, 3 HDMI connections cons: no component, minor backlight bleeding

  • from Kapuskasing, ON
