Terrible speeds

Bought this because my PC seems to be sitting *right* at the edge of decent 5G wifi strength. Got it hooked up and running, connected to it. My signal strength went from just a dot to 1 bar. Not great, but better, or so I thought. Ran a few speed tests. On the 'extended' network, speeds varied between 9.9 to 17 Mbps down. Switched back to the original network (remember..only 1 dot on the bandwidth meter, not even a bar) for 50-60 Mbps down speeds Well below the 100 my plan offers, but more than 3 times what I can get with this extender. Very unhappy with this purchase, cannot un-recommend it enough. Stay away!

Decent if bought at the right price

Bought it in-store for 90 CAD. I would not pay more than 100 CAD for it. Before: My router is at 15m from my bedroom but has multiple walls and objects in between so I was stuck in the 2.4GHz band. I was having around 5Mbps speedtests which was not enough for streaming videos without buffering. My iPhone and smart scale were also struggling to stay on the wifi network. Note: I only have 3 wifi devices so I don't know how it performs with many devices/users. What I did: I bought this range extender and placed it in the middle of my apartment, about 8m away from my bedroom with few(er) obstructions and no walls. I created a different network to block my devices from switching back and forth to my router's wifi. What I noticed: 1. I can use the 5GHz reliably now; 2. All my devices can connect to he n/ac 2.4/5GHz networks without problems; 3. Speed is decent. I can max out my 25Mbps internet speeds; 4. Connection is stable. Occasionally a webpage won't load but it does after I hit refresh; Can watch HQ streams without any problem. 5. Range is marginally better than Bell's HomeHub 2000's or Virgin's Steve's. 6. If used as range extender, you have to create a new wifi network. If you use the same name (SSID) as your home router, your device can get "stuck" in the wrong network. Pros: - Decent to improve signal in places where it's bad; - Can be used in Access Point mode (page 22 of the manual); (This is actually one of the reasons I went with it: backup plan. I still need to find out how it performs as an AP) - Easy setup, no need to be a certified network technician to set it up; - Form factor, can be mounted directly to the power socket. Cons: - Canadian firmware is outdated, has security holes and bugs that consumes internet data. The range extender starts acting up when I put the more recent US firmware (also void warranty), so I decided to downgrade it to the Canadian version; - Pricy if bought at full price. - Fairly big, obstructs lower socket too if put in a double wall plug (at least in my case). I recommend it as a temporary solution or if you can't run ethernet cables and put an access point. I gave it 4 stars (I think 3.5 is more accurate) because the outdated firmware was a turnoff but not a dealbreaker.

Works great

I've had this for about 6 months now. It works great and is very easy to setup. Went from having little to no WIFI upstairs to have great internet without any interruptions. The 5g network has issues from time to time but overall no complaints, highly recommended.

  • from Coaldale

Worked good for a while

I had one replaced after it would not find home network. After a year, the current one not only would drop connection, now will not extend after configuration and you are locked out...reset only optionand to no avail.

  • from Tavistock

WiFi range extender

Fairly new to us but so far it has been doing exactly what it says it will do.We are real happy with it. When trying to watch Netflix in the rec room before the network would lose range and hasn't since installing the extender. Five Star

Excellent product

It is excellent product to cover WiFi dead zone. easy to setup with WPS buttons(Option 2). it took me less than 2 minutes.I got faster and stable WiFi 2.4G & 5G speed in living room now. highly recommended.

Not a good choice

Bought this almost 6 months ago and am very disappointed... the thing looks great but looses its connetion to my TP Link router. The lights on the unit say all is fine but my devices say no internet connection. Have updated firmware turned DHCP on or off... tried every combo of switches possible... until TP link figures this out I recommend something else...

  • from Brampton, ON

Works, guaranteed

Easy set up manual. Two options. Used option 2 at start ( via WPS ) but did not really perform well. Worked well for android devices. Resetted the extender and used option 1 ( via web browser ), installing close to main modem. Full functionality finality for all devices.

Works Great

This does just what it's supposed to do, extends your wifi range. It's cute that one reviewer thought that having Internet through Telus actually mattered, but with that review it's no wonder the Support agent wanted them off the phone. TP-Link is my new go-to manufacturer, the equipment that I've purchased from them has been flawless so far, must better results than i've had out of the box from D-Link

TP Link AC-1750 Wifi range extender

The first piece was defective and had to be returned, the second one works reasonably well, although there is one break every day. The biggest flaw is that configuration is not available via PC even though the user manual claims it can be done. Overall good product and works well.

  • from Coquitlam, BC

Works with Telus

Despite what a previous reviewer said, I bought this extender to work with a Telus Actiontec V1000H modem. I had no problems connecting using the WPS button and the extender works great

Goes well

Worth the price

  • from Wallaceburg Ont

Works well as advertised

Desktop computer is at the North end of the house on the first floor in the corner unit of an wooden desk. Router (TP LINK TOUCH AC 1900) is at the South end of the house on the second floor. Desktop has built in Wi-Fi and couldn't connect to to the 2.4 or 5G network. Installed this unit at the North end of the house on the second floor roughly above the desktop. Now I'm connected to the 5G network with full bars and zero issues. Easy to set up. Great form factor.

be careful before you buy this. Does not work with Telus

I have a Telus modem that was just installed 6 months ago. I was trying to fix a Wifi problem. I could not pair it up based on the manual so I tried their tech support. They did not know who Telus was. After 30 minutes on the phone I could tell the agent just wanted to end the call so he said return it to the store, so I did. I bough the equivalent LINKSYS model and it worked just following similar basic instructed

Switch your router to 2.4 only

Worked great after switching my router to 2.4 not dual band. Cause of any dropped signal and need to reboot is high amount of traffic in the area. Use wifi analyzer app. Change router to less used channel band on 2.4 and disable dual band if you see high traffic in your area. You will not get dropped signal if you don't use 2.4/5.0 ghz shifting. Great product....don,t blame the extender. Would give it 5 stars if the instructions pointed out the solution in instructions or troubleshooting in manual. Found out by doing some research on the internet. Cheers.

Great product as an Access Point

I purchased this product today. Connectivity was easy but I was not too impressed with download speeds when configured as wifi extender upstairs. Then switched the mode to access point and connected to my router/swithc upstairs. It works great as an access point now. The front room which had very poor wifi signal now has full strength signal and download speed was over 90 MBPS. Now I have full wifi coverage when using it as an access point. It may not be an option for everyone but it works for me.

Excellent Range extender ,very easy to setup and working very good ,now I have full bars around the house ,I recommend this product. Plug it in OUTSIDE and my WIFI ROCKS!!!

  • from Alberta

Easy setup, cannot connect wifi

I purchase this on sale, it was easy to setup the first time. Great speed, and coverage. Within a few weeks of use, I had to reboot it a few times, reset with setup, and made sure it acessed the home network. Came home one night and did not have network coverage. After several attempts to reset the repeater, it might connect to network for a bit, then drop signal and unable to see the RE450.....

  • from Ottawa ON

Great wifi extender!

Extends my wifi from one end of the second floor to the other end of the basement. Works well when streaming movies. No issue whatsoever. Works much better than anything I have tried before. Worth the price.

  • from Thornhill, ON

Firmware Lock

Locked to US firmware ... not the EU/Global Firmware. Global firmware has more features - US firmware hasn't been updated since release. No access point functionality because US firmware is behind.

This extender is nothing special at all.

I bought this extender because there is dead spots In my house. I thought this was going to be an awesome extender! My Internet Speeds are very fast. But not on this extender. I got 1MB/ps and I have 250mb/ps. I sometimes can't even load an Instagram picture!

  • from Burlington, ON

Great product

Does exactly as described. Extremely easy, one button, setup and range extension is great. No more dead / weak spots in the house.

  • from Toronto, ON

great product and relatively easy to set up

received it on time and set it up easily and it is working fine ever since. improved my access extension in the house and I am so far happy about it.

  • from Montréal, QC

Not bad...

I have used it for month, to get the best performance out it, it requires some setting adjustment, it mostly trial and error, the other thing I've noticed is that you have to reboot it about once a week, but it's not a bad buy if it's on sale.

  • from Mississauga, ON

Very easy

Excellent Range extender ,very easy to setup and working very good ,now I have full bars around the house ,I recommend this product

  • from North York, ON

The TP-LINK was excellent in the first 2 weeks that I used it. Then suddenly the wifi speed gets slower and slower. And then, last week mine doesn't work anymore. Everytime I plugged it in it doesn't turn on.

  • from Brossard, QC

Bad experience

I purchased this to extend the reach of my WIFI network, the setup is easy and the performance is good for 2 days only, after that I got no connection although the light is steady blue but no internet, i made several resets but after 2 days, again, the same problem. I think this product is not stable and needs several updates

  • from Thunder Bay, ON

Paid for itself the first month

We get poor signal in our home because of log walls and cement floors. I read up on a few different models and settled on this one. I ordered it while on sale and it was definitely worth the price. I chose option 2 for setup since it was less work and it was a breeze. My daughter always went over her data each month because of our poor signal and now she has data to spare. Would definitely recommend this unit.

  • from Toronto, ON

Surprise Ending

I got the device set up easy enough, and got a "blue circle" that says that it is on. Here is the challenge, without a method to test the added range it is hard to tell if it is just a device that makes a nice blue circle. I called the manufacturer to ask and explained that I used speed test app to check and there was no increase in speed. They explained the device will increase the range - but in doing so may cut your speeds in half - What? I email them to see if there was another answer - but nope - the device "extends your range but cuts your speed" - That's not very useful.

  • from Toronto, ON

Works as advertised with simple setup

Purchased this because my router is on one side of my house. After using this Extender my 5ghz network signal was as high as it could be. Simple to install. Just need to follow the quick start guide. Tip: use a new name for the extended network signal so you don't accidentally connect to the weak broadcast since the new and old WiFi signals will be named the same so your device may auto connect to the weaker one.

  • from North Vancouver, BC

I will recommend it as a Wifi-Extender for mobile phones and such. With my experience, this product keeps on turning off per fifteen minutes.. Other than that, it gives a decent range for wifi. I do not recommend this if you are a PC gamer or a Movie streamer.

  • from Toronto, ON

Dead spot for WiFi

Setup is easy compared with my old wifi extender. It eliminates dead spot for wifi signal; however, cell phone battery consumes quicker than normal.

TP Link wifi range extender (RE450)

I am thrilled to do a review on this product. I was amazed how easy it was to set up. My husband and I have Bell Fibe wireless in our 2 bedroom apartment - yet 2 bedroom 1000 sq. ft and for the last 4 years I have had to constantly move my laptop to the living room where our router is positioned so I would be able to access the internet without interruption. Wow oh problem is just grand to actually be connected and the speed has increased. Really glad I discovered this today....hard to find a best buy that had it in stock...found it out at the Best buy at Scarborough center.

  • from Mississauga, ON

Good but not the best

I was excited to buy this product with all the excellent reviews in this website. Easy set up like other extenders I've bought before. This is better than the least expensive TP Link model I bought before this one. This extender is able to raise my wifi signal from 59% to 78% at the most, which is just enough to stream from Netflix

  • from Laval, QC

excellent product

I have bad connection with my internet. TS link solved the problem and it uses same user name and password as your network. There is no login with ext at the end. I would recommend this product.

  • from Kitchener, ON

I needed this to eliminate a dead spot at work and TP-LInk worked phenomenally well. I even use the extra ethernet port for a spare debit machine. I did not want to buy a new wireless debit card machine so the I just plugged the TP-Link into the receptacle where I needed the ethernet port. I got a wireless extender and a wireless ethernet port. Solved two of my problems in one shot. Would definitely recommend and buy again.

  • from Windsor, ON

Just buy it already.

When working outside (opposite side of where the router is situated), my connection would drop, but after using this extender, my range has increased by at least 75+ feet from the house. I say at least since I didn't test any further than 75 feet.

  • from Orangeville, ON

Works great!

Extends my network nicely, even 5G! No connectivity issues so far - quite happy with it!
