TurboTax Home & Business 2021 (PC) - 12 Returns

I have used this product for years, and will continue to do so. When things don't totally make sense to me, I find it can be quite difficult to check them. Using the Forms option helps. This year, I distrusted the calculation of medical deductions, but was not able to assure myself. The software got cranky near the end of my session, sending me error messages about being unable to save. After I Netfiled my return, I could not save the final file. I had to reboot and make use of the backup file, which meant that I lost the last part of my work.. I think that the second Netfile was the same as the first, (About the same and not much worse.)

While I have used TurboTax Software for years, this is only my second year using home and business. I prepare my returns for myself, my spouse, my in-laws, and some of my siblings. Between all of us, our tax situations collectively include rental property income and expenses, pension income, self-employment income and expenses, employment income, investment income and expenses, disability related implications and child dependent implications. TT Home and Business helps me confidently deal with all of these components and their tax impacts. Great product overall, would recommend to others without a doubt and will be using it again next year.

Does the math fine, prints reports fine. Navigation is poor, not intuitive, seems worse than in past years, hard to move around, hard to find specific items, end up going through same sections repeatedly Increasing font size is nice but cant increase both TT font & CRA form font at same time. Help utility is not very helpful, can't find acronyms like UCCB, can't find explanations of conditions like tax exempt income. Keeps warning about things that were not selected, like selling principal residence as if somehow I flagged it. Some definitions are different than CRA's. The tax summary page seems incomplete, does not show provincial summary.

I think there are areas where QT could still be greatly improved. The 'help' files in particular. CRA has all kinds of stupid credits and finding out what they are and whether or not you are eligible should either be AUTOMATICALLY applied by the software (when possible) or an EASY look up. Also, when you get to the point of filing the return, QT doesn't seem to know when you have made a copy of your return or not and you can end up going around in circles saving it multiple times because it loops around in this section. There are many areas of filling out a return that are still too confusing and could be made easier with better guidance by QT.

I have been using Quicktax for years. I have never had a single technical problem. This year Turbo Tax crashed constantly. I lost all my work several times. Even after getting tech support and reloading an older version, it was better for a while, but then again it kept crashing. Worse, I couldn't reload the file I had been working on and which was well in progress because it was considered a "newer version". I had no choice, I had to update in order to Netfile but either way I got crash after crash. Even minimizing the screen caused a crash. Horrible horrible horrilble when one is already stressd trying to get a bunch o numbers crunched.
