- Everything the First Game was and More- 2 octobre 2008
Yakuza 2 is the direct sequel to the first game Yakuza, in which Kazuma Kiryu travels back to Kamurocho after 1 year of absence. For those that don't know, Kiryu is an ex-Yakuza who got sucked back into the life of a Japanese gangster in the first game. This sequel follows very closely to the events in the first, so if you haven't played the first game, you'll be a little lost. But the game does have a nifty feature in the beginning where Kazuma can reminisce about the past year, effectively informing newcomers to the game plot or just giving gamers a refresher. The story depicts Kazuma attempting to re-affirm the Tojo clan after the events at Millenium Tower and how a rival splinter group of the Omi Alliance is vying to take over Kamurocho. There are many secrets underneath the surface and it's so complex that even Kansai police and the Korean mafia are involved. With this, many new characters are introduced, but it isn't nearly as hard to keep up with them as it was in the first game. It also includes many characters from the first game so it's fun to see them reprised in this new situation. The fighting engine is revamped so Kiryu has all of the top moves from the previous game and a lot of newer ones. Reflexes are faster to make fights quicker and more reaction paced with an arsenal of new weapons to use during brawls. There are three new cities you can explore (as opposed to the single city confinement in the first game) with even more side missions to fulfill. No doubt, there is definitely a lot to do in this game, but the main story line is a little on the short side. That being said, it's definitely as fast paced as one would come to expect and it doesn't lose your attention. It also did away with the english voice cast from the first Yakuza and kept the game dialogue in its' original Japanese audio with subtitles, so it is a little difficult to keep up with conversations sometimes. This is definitely a great PS2 game for the money. It has good graphics, great soundtrack, fast paced story and fighting, and alot of replay value. (you could probably fill up days just playing the side missions) I do not regret in the least buying this game and I hope the third one gets released in the U.S. soon.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
