A Quick Look at Guitars

Whether your style is searing rock or acoustic folk, the right guitar will help you sound and feel like a superstar. From acoustic guitars to electric hybrids to bass guitars, there’s a guitar designed exactly for the way you play. You’ll be rocking out in no time when you choose a guitar from Best Buy’s selection of top brands like Fender, Yamaha, Squier, Schecter, Mahalo, Dean Guitars and more.

Learn More about Guitars

An acoustic guitar is a great instrument to learn on. It has no built-in electronics or circuitry, is relatively lightweight, and can easily be taken anywhere. For a different acoustic sound, you can also learn to play the ukulele, a small, traditional Hawaiian guitar with four strings.

No other instrument can make you feel more like a rock god than the electric guitar. It uses a magnetically induced electrical signal to produce sound from the vibrations of the metal strings. An amplifier connected to the guitar helps to strengthen the signal and add “colour” or different tones to the sound.

For the ultimate in musical multi-tasking, get the instrument that doesn’t mind doing a little double duty. Acoustic electric hybrid guitars are actually electric guitars that can produce both the tones of an acoustic guitar and the rocking sounds of an electric guitar.

The bass guitar resembles an electric guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length. You primarily use your fingers or thumb to produce a low, deep bass sound. Typical ways to play a bass include fingering, popping, thumping, slapping and picking.
