Take a closer look with the iPhone 11 Pro
The iPhone 11 Pro features a new 5.8-inch Super Retina XDR display capable of getting really bright when out in the sun. With up to 800 nits brightness in direct sunlight, it’s easier to see what you’re doing onscreen without seeking some shade. It can go up to 1200 nits when viewing extreme dynamic range content like HDR photos and HDR10 movies. Precision-milled glass and a dual-ion exchange process make this screen one of the toughest available.
An all-new A13 Bionic processor works together with a third-generation Neural Engine for machine learning across the whole CPU. It drives the new camera system, Face ID, augmented reality (AR) apps and gaming performance to deliver the fastest CPU and GPU performance of any iPhone to date.
Greater efficiency also leads to a spike in battery life, offering up to four hours more per charge than the iPhone XS. With a faster 18W charger in the box, you can plug in and get 50 per cent charge in only 30 minutes. Wireless charging support also lets you lay the iPhone 11 Pro down on a charging pad or dock when you don’t want cables around.
Seeing is believing
You can rest a little easier every time the iPhone 11 Pro makes contact with water, thanks to better splash, water and dust resistance. With an IP68 rating, you can submerge it under freshwater down to 2 metres for up to 30 minutes.
Apple’s new Ultra Wideband (U1) chip adds spatial awareness technology to the iPhone 11 Pro. Point it at someone’s U1-equipped Apple device running iOS 13, and it will let you AirDrop files or photos to them for faster sharing on the go.
The faster chips help games run with smooth framerates and no lag, whether you download them from the Apple Store or stream them on Apple Arcade. Face ID is just as quick, where a quick glance can get you past the lock screen.
Choose from a set of professional-looking colours that will look great in your hand, be it space grey, silver, gold or the new midnight green.
Taking better photos with the iPhone 11 Pro
The iPhone 11 Pro presents the first triple camera system on an Apple smartphone, capable of shooting from different perspectives in the same spot. The new 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens can capture up to four times more of a scene to simplify getting everything you want into one frame. The wider 120-degree field of view is always available so you can see what’s happening outside the image frame on the standard 12-megapixel wide-angle lens. Just tap on the outside and you snap a photo with the ultra-wide lens. The 12-megapixel Telephoto lens lets you zoom in to get closer to your subject without taking too many steps forward. Portrait mode will now work with more than just people, letting you shoot pets or objects with adjustable blur in the background.
A new Night mode works off the A13 Bionic chipset and uses machine learning to capture low-light shots with more light and detail than any other iPhone that came before it. It works automatically, sensing when to kick in on its own. Smart HDR is now smarter at recognizing people in the frame to improve details for a more dynamic-looking photo.
Shooting more video with the iPhone 11 Pro
The A13 Bionic processor provides the power to enable the iPhone 11 Pro to record video in 4K resolution at 60fps, with more dynamic range and cinematic-style stabilization. The extra scene space from the ultra-wide lens can also come into play when editing clips later on, letting you crop the part of the scene you want to keep.
A new QuickTake feature lets you start a video while in photo mode by keeping your finger on the shutter button, so you don’t have to switch modes first. Tracking a moving person or object to keep them in focus is more precise because of the new chipset inside.
The new 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera can take slow-motion selfie videos at 120fps or 4K clips at 60 fps. Shooting selfies in slow-motion will create what are called Slofies for dramatic effect. The camera also automatically zooms out when rotating the iPhone 11 Pro to landscape mode to get more into the frame when taking selfie photos.
