The Next Generation of Nintendo Gaming Has Arrived

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, 2025, marking a new era in hybrid gaming. Whether you're upgrading from the original Nintendo Switch or diving into Nintendo for the first time, this console brings major advancements in power, design, and interactivity. From console and controller innovations to new games and accessories, everything is built for deeper immersion and more versatile play.

Powerful New Hardware

At the heart of the Nintendo Switch 2 is a 7.9-inch HDR LCD screen that supports 1080p resolution and refresh rates up to 120Hz. When docked, the system delivers 4K output (for select compatible games) capped at 60 frames per second, with support for HDR and VRR up to 120 fps. Improved system cooling through the Nintendo Switch 2 dock helps maintain performance during longer play sessions.

The console includes 256GB of internal storage and supports microSD Express cards for expansion. SD cards from the original Nintendo Switch are not compatible. The system also includes two USB-C ports for connectivity with upcoming accessories.

Redesigned Controls with New Communication Tools

The new Joy-Con 2 controllers attach magnetically and feature a redesigned larger shape. A newly introduced “C” button gives players instant access to GameChat, Nintendo’s new in-game voice communication system. Larger Pro Controllers are also available, offering enhanced comfort and performance.

GameChat is available to all users until the end of March 2026. After this open-access window, a Nintendo Switch Online membership will be required to continue using GameChat features. A built-in microphone with noise cancellation enhances communication, and some games will offer immersive 3D audio experiences.

Launch Titles and Game Compatibility

Nintendo Switch 2 is launching with a strong lineup of exclusive titles, headlined by Mario Kart World—a bold evolution of the franchise that introduces open-world elements, weather effects, and support for up to 24 racers per race.

Also coming is Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV, launching on July 24, 2025, as a paid upgrade with new content and expanded modes. Players will also enjoy enhanced editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, available June 5, 2025.

The system is also backward compatible with a wide selection of original Nintendo Switch titles, giving players access to a broad library from day one. However, it’s worth noting that some original games may not be fully compatible or may have limited functionality on the new hardware.

A New Era of Accessories

A new suite of first-party accessories is launching alongside the console. These include the updated Pro Controller, Joy-Con 2, and the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, which allows for video-chat functionality via GameChat. Nintendo also announced support for a new wireless GameCube controller, designed to work with GameCube titles coming to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Whether you're interested in competitive multiplayer, open-world adventures, or family gaming nights, these accessories help tailor your experience to your playstyle.
