Active tracking

The Fitbit Versa 4 continues on improving what the previous models introduced as they came out, with fitness tracking playing a big role in what this smartwatch offers. You will be able to track dozens of exercises that cover a wide range, so you can utilize tracking features based on how you want to work out.

The built-in GPS from the previous Versa 3 is back again in the Versa 4, and that means you get more accurate tracking for pace and distance when outdoors. You won’t even need to bring your phone with you for those workouts if you don’t want to, as route information syncs over to the Fitbit app afterward.

The various workouts available include the usual running, cycling, hiking, and walking. Others, including HIIT, weightlifting, crossfit, yoga, and dance, have been added to the list. There is a total of at least 40 exercises to choose from, doubling what the Versa 3 could do.

This smartwatch comes with a free 6-month trial for Fitbit Premium to new users. With Premium, you gain access to an array of extra video content, like workout routines, guided programs, and meditation practices.

Getting slimmer and trimmer

Fitbit managed to cut down the Versa 4 for size with a slimmer frame and lighter weight, despite maintaining the same features inside. It also brought back the physical button on the side to help make navigation smoother. The screen is still touch-sensitive, so you can always swipe and tap on it when you like.

Unlike the Fitbit Sense 2, the Versa 4 doesn’t have the ECG (electrocardiogram) and EDA (electrodermal activity) sensors to measure heart functions and stress, respectively. What it does have is the improved heart rate monitor to keep track of beats per minute at all times. That data then syncs with the Fitbit app to give you a broader health score.

Sleep tracking continues to evolve with the Versa 4, carrying on much of what came before. Apart from sleep quality, it will present a Sleep Score to help you understand how well rested you are. The Smart Wake alarm wakes you at the optimal time, be it by buzzing your wrist gently to lull you awake, or an audible alarm to get you out of bed sooner.

Getting connected

The Versa 4 connects to iPhone and Android phones using Bluetooth. You can take incoming calls and talk to others directly from the watch, though you do need your phone to be within range. There are no LTE versions of this smartwatch. If you do use voice-to-text to respond to text messages, you will need an Android phone to perform that task.

New features include access to popular Google apps. Upcoming software updates will bring Google Maps to the Versa 4, for easier navigation on foot when getting to a destination. Google Wallet will bring convenient payments straight from your wrist. Google Assistant or Alexa are the voice assistants of choice, giving you the ability to issue commands and control smart home devices without touching your phone.

The watch will also let you control music, particularly when you have a Spotify or Deezer account. Control what you play from the watch screen, or browse through playlists to choose what you want to hear at any time.

Your style, anytime

The Versa 4 can look however you want it to, inside and out. Choose from countless clock faces to give the screen the look you want. Swap out the straps to help the watch fit in anywhere you want to take it. It’s not just for exercising, as it can look good in all sorts of casual outings or situations.

Straps from the previous Versa 3 will fit the Versa 4 because they both use the same clipping mechanism. You will find straps come in different colours and textures, including leather, fabric, metal, and other materials.
