Hobby Boss 1/48 US B-24D Liberator

The B-24D Liberator was an American heavy bomber used extensively by the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. Developed by Consolidated Aircraft, the B-24D was one of the earlier production variants of the Liberator and the first to be mass-produced in significant numbers. It featured a twin-tail design, long wingspan, and powerful Pratt & Whitney R-1830 engines, giving it exceptional range and the ability to carry up to 8,000 pounds of bombs. The B-24D was equipped with ten .50 calibre machine guns for defense, distributed across its nose, tail, waist, and dorsal positions.

The B-24D was primarily deployed in the European and Pacific theaters, playing a key role in long-range bombing missions against enemy infrastructure, including factories, railways, and oil refineries. Its combination of range, speed, and bomb load made it a valuable asset, although it was criticised for being more difficult to handle than other bombers, such as the B-17. Despite these challenges, the B-24D's versatility and operational success helped solidify the B-24's eventual place as one of the most produced American military aircraft of the war.

Hobby Boss continue their run of highly detailed and much sought-after Liberator model kits with this D variant; featuring detailed fuselage and wing moulds with a host of accurate design elements. The finely detailed cockpit and interior add to the realism, with finishing touches including grooved rubber tyres and PE parts.
