What customers are saying

The product has a mix of positive and negative feedback. On the positive side, it features good performance in venting cooking odors and fumes, and is generally quiet and easy to use. However, many customers have experienced issues with the unit, such as deployment problems, malfunctions, and excessive noise. Concerns have also been raised about the product's quality and durability, with some needing multiple repairs or replacements. Overall, while the product has some strengths, the reliability and longevity issues appear to be a significant drawback for many users.

Destroyed a brand new $2500 induction cooktop

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - February 23, 2020

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The way filters were installed when manufactures caused the corner of one to stick out far beyond the face of the downdraft. The sharp metal corner caught the edge of the glass cooktop on the way up and shattered the glass. Installation was correct with the right spacing. Now I have a downdraft that is useless and a cooktop that needs a $1000 part from a different manufacturer. Lesson is raise the down draft before you install your cooktop to see if it is defective.

    Prefer the previous model

(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) Well....it was slightly wider and deeper than our previous KitchenAid retractable exhaust fan so it was not a simple installation. Our granite counter top had to be cut wider and deeper to allow the new model enough room to fit the opening. Also, the on/off push button is finicky. Sometimes the unit starts by pushing and holding the on button other times you just push the on button. Needless to say we are not fans of the new on/off button. It is also noisy when it is elevated creaking and such as it moves from. The retracted position. The blower does seem to work fine although noisy. Lastly, it was a huge pain and challenge to connect the blower to the existing vent pipe as again this new unit was considerably different than the layout of the KitchenAid unit it replaced. Significant modifications were required for our application

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this downdraft exhaust fan to work with my new induction cooktop. It is working very well and I am really pleased with the workmanship.

    Good bang for buck

    Reviewed by - August 23, 2018

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought this a month ago and did the install ourselves. This was to replace a Jenn Air unit that was a stove top with downdraft unit together. Directions were good and videos assisted with ease of install. I did have to move the outward air inside the cabinet, but that is not unit related. We have used the unit several times and really like the height and cfm. This sucks in steam from our 9” stock pot. This is so much better than the prior unit that was only burner high. I cannot give this or any other downdraft unit a full 5 stars because they cannot do what an overhead system can. Compared to all the other units, this is definitely worth the price!

36" Retractable Downdraft System, 600 CFM

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - October 22, 2016

Absolutely great-I could not be more pleased! I love the height because if I am using a tall stockpot the vent is still higher than the pot and vents wonderfully! The majority of my appliances are KitchenAid and I have been very pleased with them all!

    Broken. Not working properly.

    Reviewed by - August 18, 2025

This was just installed on Friday August 15, 2025. Removed the filters to clean some packing adhesive & excess grease off and noticed the shattered mirrored surface. When the downdraft is raised it makes a grinding sound and is wobbly.

    Great suction

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] What I especially like about this new fan is its height. My old fan, which was a few inches shorter, did not work nearly as well with stockpots as the new fan. It is also quieter and works better. Overall, it is a huge improvement!

    Retractable Vent

    Reviewed by - September 3, 2023

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The vent is not made as well as one would expect from KitchenAid. The plastic button to retract and raise the vent is cheap and gets stuck. Very flimsy. Causing the vent to go up and down until you straighten out the button.

    Very poor performance.

I have had this product for less than a year and already it has been replaced completely under the warranty. The second one still 'sticks' when in elevation mode and doesn't come up all the way - this will probably have to be replaced too. It's noisy when the extractor fans are turned on and it doesn't remove cooking odors, steam, fumes etc. which is the whole point of having it - our venting system is excellent - there are no blockages - so why doesn't the downdraft suck away fumes etc? I would NOT recommend this product to anyone - along with my new Kitchenaid 48" built-in, side-by-side refrigerator - the ice maker has been replaced once already and now the new one has ceased to work - we're waiting for a new 'shoot' - meanwhile - no ice also less than a year old!
