What customers are saying

The product offers excellent performance, features, and value. It is easy to set up and configure, with a user-friendly interface. The switch provides advanced capabilities like VLANs, link aggregation, and PoE support, making it suitable for both home and small business use. Customers appreciate the compact form factor and the switch's reliability, with many reporting years of trouble-free operation. While the web interface could be more intuitive, the product delivers professional-grade features at a reasonable cost.

    Excellent Expansion Switch

    Reviewed by - May 29, 2019

Simple and relatively easy to configure, this switch is great for PoE capable networks: it can go places without power, which makes it possible to pull fewer home run category cables. If you have a protected power injector or PoE switch/router feeding this device, thats one more spot on your surge protector at your desk or a.v. cabinet, and more if you have multiple areas fed from this switch. Very solid device, which could use an LED switch to limit light pollution, and Mac/Linux compatibility for its guided setup and management apps, which would be easier to use than the web access page, or a guided setup on that page.

Best 8 port managed switch in small form factor

    Reviewed by - May 29, 2019

This 8 port Poe powered switch is an excellent addition to any small business or home network. Being PD powered you can connect this to a central POE switch without worrying about an additional power supply meaning it's perfect for adding multiple network ports in small spaces, for instance in AV racks and media centers. Being managed adds greater flexibility allowing for VLAN tagging to separate Video, Phone and PC network traffic. I have multiple of these running throughout my home and love how well built they are, the reliability and flexibility they offer and you can't beat the price too.

    Great inexpensive feature rich switch

    Reviewed by - October 27, 2020

Using this to filter multicast storm control. It does the job well, and the sturdy hardware demonstrates the look of a high quality product. The one thing that I do not like and wish would go away, is the need to register the product in order to access most of the features. For most people this is not going to be a big issue, just an annoyance. However, you better hang onto the registration ID or else some years down the road there is a potential to end up with a brick should the switch get a factory reset after Netgear decides they no longer need to support an old obsolete product.

    Reliable Product That Works

    Reviewed by - November 1, 2020

Functionality and Reliability-wise, this unit works great. It's worked well with any PoE device. Setting up VLAN is quite simple. The only reason why I took a star off is because the GUI seems to not work as well with today's browsers AND requires Java. Requiring Flash or Java simply needs to go - they should make sure they stick with a GUI that can work fine with today's browsers without requirements of the past. If they are outdated because of this, they should allow a firmware update (perhaps) to remedy this problem, simplifying things in the process. I'd still buy

    The cherry on the cake

    Reviewed by - May 29, 2019

I have a good Netgear router and also a good Netgear switch, but with a new 2 LANs port NAS, I needed something more to have advantage on Port Trunking function. Have to stream fun for children as well as stuff for my freelance work were not always manageable. However, I came across a Netgear forum where a guy suggested to "manage" the port trunk function with the Smats Manage GS108T instead of disrupting the entire system is spend a lot of money. Very good suggestion! GS108Tv2 is very good product, easy to use like a cherry on the cake. The remaining part is Netgear.

    Managed switch with VLAN!

    Reviewed by - March 4, 2021

This is a managed gigabit switch with VLAN support and a web interface. I don't like the fact that this has to be registered, and the setup was unnecessarily complicated. But hey, it supports VLANs and is programmable port by port, so that I can have two separate VLANS running independently that share one internet connection at home. Network devices on the two networks only see the other devices on their respective virtual networks, but all have internet access. Cool. Now my network devices are hidden from my parents' network devices, and that is what I wanted.

Original and warranty units all failed.

    Reviewed by - May 1, 2022

I bought one of these a few years ago because of the POE PD feature.I was disappointed to find that an internet connection is required to "unlock" any useful functionality. Once you've done that, make sure you don't do the reset to factory settings because you might find that Netgear support has trouble getting you a new code. That's just the start. I had two of these fail in exactly the same way (they reboot themselves continuously after power is applied, resulting in lots of flashing light but no functionality of any kind). The replacement unit also failed.

I have a few of these...

    Reviewed by - May 29, 2019

I have three GS108Tv2's and a GS110TP. I absolutely love them. I can't say that I've done anything with the VPN features, but the PoE is SO handy. I've read a few reviews where people had some troubles with these devices but they really sounded like they were trying to get Enterprise class functionality out of a consumer/SOHO device. Which reminds me of the people who thought the home PC (made by a certain manufacturer that I will decline to mention for whom I did technical support) should be capable of professional video editing. Back in the 90s. With free software that came on the machine. I am a big fan of Netgear products and the lifetime warranty is just a giant demonstration of their belief in the quality of their products.

Professional features at an excellent pricepoint.

    Reviewed by - March 19, 2020

I got the GS108T smart switch mainly to improve security and performance of my home network. After reading up on all the features, I was impressed with how easy it was to set up on my mostly consumer-grade network hardware. Even though it took a few tries and some googling to get the advanced features set up right, it will still work fine as a ‘dumb’ switch right out of the box on factory settings. There are much cheaper ‘dumb’ switches out there - but if you operate a SOHO network and are security-minded, or even if you’re a hobbyist who just likes to network all of your appliances together like myself, I would highly recommend this switch. It provides tons of functionality at a very reasonable price, and the compact form factor also fits nicely on a small desk or cabinet.

    Replacing NETGEAR products

    Reviewed by - March 24, 2020

This particular product pushed me to switch over all of my networking hardware to Ubiquity and its family of AP, switches, and security gateways. There is a significantly noticeable difference in performance and value. I've used NETGEAR router products for years. This was the first managed switch I purchased. I found the interface and configuration of my network required that I work around how the product is configured and its software limitations.
