What customers are saying

The camera produces high-quality 360-degree photos and videos, especially in good lighting. Battery life is reported to be good. However, significant software and connectivity issues, such as poor performance and unreliability of the companion mobile app, have negatively impacted the overall user experience. Some users have also experienced problems with the camera randomly turning off, draining the battery quickly, and producing low-quality images in certain situations. The lack of a live preview feature when using the physical buttons is seen as a limitation.

One star is one star too many

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I read the reviews, but figured I'd give it a try despite the poor reviews. The thing will not pair with my phone (iPhone 6s.) I went through the instruction book, I went through the link Nikon posted, I watched YouTube videos, I even considered summoning a shaman to cast a spell, no luck. The bluetooth connects no issue, the closest I got to connecting the wifi was a never ending spinning circle resulting in a camera overheating warning. I tried for hours connecting, hitting "end pairing," disconnecting, forgetting networks, entering the "NikonKeyMission" password for the wifi, they just won't talk to each other.

    Terrible

    Reviewed by - October 27, 2016

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am so frustrated. I sold my Theta S 360 camera to get this one. I have been super excited to get this & got it yesterday. I can't even get the Bluetooth or wifi to sync. I know what I'm doing, just a garbage app & buggy software on camera. I've read some reviews online & other people are having the same problem. Some of the sample pictures people have posted aren't even that good. The stitching looks terrible. I totally regret getting rid of my Theta S. This Keymission 360 has to go back. Wtf?!? Ughh. Researching this online, you realize all the positive feedback & comments ...........are from Nikon.

    What can I say?

    Reviewed by - December 8, 2016

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The camera is clunky and has stitching issues. For iOS at least, it doesn't really fully work with out the phone app which other reviews will generously describe as "finicky". In fact, the phone app has achieved near complete uselessness. I mean, hand brake in a canoe useless. However, it you want an expensive way to post warped and flattened panos to Facebook, by all means, Nikon's Keymission is your "360 degree" camera. Oh yeah, fear not, they have included a "VR Headset Viewer" which IS made of cardboard. It looks like it should be the box the camera comes in, but it's not. See for yourself on Nikon's accessory page. Just in case you wanted something bizarre along with your $500 purchase.

Good for video, not so much for stills

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - December 12, 2016

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this camera to take 360 degree photos, which I also do with my Nikon D750 and Nodal Ninja tripod head. The Keymission 360 works, I had none of the app problems that others have reported. My problem with it is the quality of the image produced. Where the two fisheye images meet, the stitching together looks terrible. I tried to remove the plastic waterproof covers to see if this helped, and it did slightly, but the resulting image is still unacceptable. In video this is slightly less noticeable, but still there. So I will be returning and hoping Nikon does better on the next version.

Run away. Nikon shows no commitment

    Reviewed by - April 27, 2018

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this in spite of all the negative wifi disconnect reviews. Updated my iphone on 4/23/18. Wifi wont work. 3hrs on customer support where they had no record of this problem- like i was the outside consultant explaining the problem. No regard for my time. No Date for an apple app update as they hadn’t requested an update yet. I believe Nikon is killing this product based upon their indifference to maintaining the app. I may spend more on a gopro or garmin product, but the time i save on a stable platform is worth it. Black eye for the Nikon family. Run away as fast as you can.

    Where to Begin

    Reviewed by - February 5, 2017

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I took this unit home excited to have a camera that worked as well as a go pro that was 360 HD ACTION. What I got was a camera that struggled to capture 10 seconds of video and alot of headaches. The software you are required to use is the problem. Its like they tried to make a non functional UI. The camera took great stills although the stitching could have been a little better. As a video camera it was useless. The geotags were not transferred to google streetview and the camera is not a compatible device with street view. If you want a great 360 video camera buy something else.

    Hoping it gets better

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - November 19, 2016

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this on a preorder I've owned a lot of Nikon Cameras and had 100% confidence this would be the best of breed. I must admit after having it for several weeks I haven't even been able to get it to consistently sync to my IPhone, it's almost impossible, my Nikon 7200 has similar problems. So far I've never even been able to get to the point I can see what settings it has from the app. I'm hoping to get some time to play with it more soon, and hoping my experience improves once I figure out how to get it to sync consistently. At this point it's pretty worthless to me.

    DOA

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - October 27, 2016

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm a big Nikon guy, but this camera was a fail for me. Straight out of the box, I was unable to pair it with my iphone 7. My family is in the market for our first action camera. Bought the gopro hero5 black and this. Just got back from vacation with the gopro (which performed great without a hitch). Haven't had any luck finding any real reviews on this camera prior to preorder. Only today, am i seeing online everywhere that pairing issues are tying up nikon customer service and most reviews are not positive. We're sticking with the gopro.

    Not worth the time

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - November 26, 2016

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So to start i had to call support to get it connected to my Phone.. YES a 360 camera that requires a PHONE to be configured and operated. So besides requiring the Phone to connect to the Camera via WiFi to be used.. Here is where it fails. No live Streaming. 360 Pictures not recognized as 360 pictures. Delay on picture 3 seconds.. That means you cant just take a picture.. Oh yea you cant just turn it on you have to start recording.. to get it on.. What? yea To be honest this was a joke of a camera... Took it to disney only to leave it in the box and user me iphone for pano 360... Oh wait one more thing low light was like no light.. so if it is not day light it doesnt work at all.. I whish i could say something good about the camera... but nikon should be embarrassed.

Great camera and awesome 360 view

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - December 15, 2016

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Camera video quality is 5 star hands down compared to Samsung 360 camera and the Thea Rioch camera. Only reason why I gave it a 3 star is because the wifi/Bluetooth is horrible. Takes for ever to pair took hours and I background in electronics. Once it's sync it's easy to connect but then the app is garbage it crash and freezes up and you will not have enough battery to send a video wifi/Bluetooth to your phone. The battery on the camera goes dead before you get video and it will be fully charged.
