- Remote control of outdoor lights made possible.- May 6, 2021
The Hue Smart Plug was easy to set up and use to remotely control our string of LED patio lights. Before we got the Hue Smart Plug, we had to insert the light cord into the electric receptacle each time we wanted to switch on the lights, and then remove it later on. The receptacle is low on the outside wall and is behind several large potted plants, which makes it difficult to access. We added the Hue Smart Plug to My Home Favorites on our iPhones, which makes it quick and simple to switch the lights on and off remotely. I had hoped that the Hue Smart Plug would make it possible to dim the lights, but sadly, no.
- Very convenient if you have Philips Hue- January 27, 2020
These smart plugs are highly advantageous over the many other smart plugs available, if you already have a Philips Hue hub. They are advertised for controlling lights, but you can use them for controlling other things. E.g. I control sound (part of a wake-up system) by setting up a fictitious room called “Sound”, and named the smart plug “Music”. Thus, spoken interaction with Google Speaker makes sense. Also, I have software I wrote myself to control Philips Hue lights and various other things, and it also controls these smart plugs with only slight modification.

- I can’t understand the cost.- December 8, 2019
These switches cost about twice as much as most of the similar products on the market and I’m having a difficult time understanding why. I’ve been happy with the Hue products I’ve owned this far, but it makes little sense for there to be such a massive price difference. As a specific example, you can get a 2-pack of Belkin WeMo smart plugs for less than a sing Hue switch. The feature comparison is near identical. Don’t get me wrong, I would be happy to buy the Hue switches as I believe the products are good, the price is just not reasonable.
