Love the glass carafes and the Penguin Sodastream

    Reviewed by - April 5, 2015

We bought our Sodastream Penguin for Christmas 2014 and have used it steadily, sometimes filling several bottles a day. Not a single problem, always great sparking water. We drink sparking water rather than soda pop.  Prior to getting our Sodastream we only purchased sparkling water that was packaged in glass.  As we care a great deal  about leaving as small a footprint as possible on the earth being able to reuse the containers and CO2 canisters, not to mention the convenience and cost saving, is a huge draw for us. We are making far fewer trips to the glass recycle drop :) Thank you Sodastream for making glass container option available.

    Cloudy Glass Caraffe

    Reviewed by - January 28, 2015

For Jeege & others: The cloudiness in the glass caraffe is probably due to one of the elements in the glass recipe "leeching" out. This may look similar to a drinking glass that you have cleaned many times in your electric dishwasher - it will develop a white film that cannot be washed or rubbed off. Glass is made from a mix of sand, lime, & soda - it is either the lime or soda that is leeching onto the surface of the glass. Best remedy is to buy some denture cleanser, put it caraffe, fill with hot water & let it sit for at least 12 hours. If that doesn't work, I don't know what will. Baking soda and/or vinegar are not as strong as the denture cleaner.

Glass… over 5 thousand years and still going strong!

    Reviewed by - July 25, 2020

Had one already with our sodastream maker. With pandemic, wanted to always have one filled with water cooling in fridge to bubblefy as soon as finished using one up. Trying to remove as much plastics from my life, so the obvious thing to get was the glass bottle sodastream maker. Also ancient memories as child in NYC when seltzer was delivered to the door in glass bottles! Ok, that dated me. Yikes. Oh wait, this is a review. I love them! Solid. No plastic. Ok the top is plastic but doesn’t touch the seltzer. CO2 is acidic in case you didn’t know. Get them instead of the plastic.

    Expired bottles?

    Reviewed by - September 21, 2019

My new soda stream was purchased on a military base in California about a month ago. When I took the bottle out of the box, it said to discard bottle after 2017 (two years ago)! The store on base could not offer a bottle exchange so I bought the glass bottles (much preferred over plastic) online but unfortunately does not fit my machine. In order to use my machine, I had to buy the right bottle that only came in a 2-pack on base, and I have to transfer to the glass bottles. Do you make glass bottles that fit the soda stream fizzy model? Also, why exactly do the bottles “expire”?

    Doesn't Work With My Machine

    Reviewed by - August 23, 2019

My experience ended about 30 seconds after taking it out of the box - doesn't fit my machine. In looking at the website again, I can see why this happened. I clicked on Accessories, went to the glass carafe and hit the "Buy Now' button. What I didn't know is that even though the description doesn't mention anything about which machine this fits, apparently I was supposed to scroll down further on the page and read more. Why would I do that - I just wanted to buy it and there was no reason not to - the description sounded just like what I was looking for!! I see now that carafes are not refundable. That's super. Love my Soda Stream, use it everyday. Would love to have glass carafes without buying a new machine.

Could not use this with my SodaStream

    Reviewed by - July 25, 2020

I assumed that if Soda Stream was selling a glass carafe that I would be able to hook this up to my Soda Stream machine like any other bottle they sold me and use it to create sparkling water. Not so. I could not get this one to attach, and so my take is that you’re supposed to make your fizzy water in another Soda Stream container and then pour it into this carafe. That’s disappointing. I could have a bought a carafe from anyone and at a lower price if all I wanted was a container I could transfer water into. Also, the picture is prettier than the carafe is in person.

    New Design for Glass Carafe

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - November 28, 2014

This new design for the glass carafe works much better than the previous cap for the glass carafe; however, my problem is that I have several of the older glass carafes and was looking for replacement caps for that design. The only design now offered is the screw-top glass carafe. For a company touting conservation, one would think that the older caps would be available, at least for those of us with the original tops so that we don't have to discard the older glass bottles just because there is no longer a cap made to fit them. The new design is better and the cap works fine ... I just resent having to purchase new bottles and discard my old bottles simply because Sodastream is no longer making available the old caps.

    Beautiful, elegant and clean!!

    Reviewed by - February 18, 2015

I bought the Penguin model specifically because it uses glass carafes and our family has been very pleased with it. We use it everyday, and when we entertain the carafes look great on the table or our impromptu mini-bar. The Penguin looks great on the mini-bar too!! We purchased 2 extra carafes for such occasions so that we have plenty of cold, bubbly water. When we need to clean the carafe, we hand wash them with regular liquid dish soap and a bottle brush so we don't have any problems with clouded glass. As soon as the bottles are washed we fill them right up again; no need to dry them since they are going to filled with water. ;-) We couldn't be happier having sparkling water without having to cart it home from the store.

    Glass Carafe

    Reviewed by - April 14, 2022

We are doing our best to get away from using disposable plastic containers. That was a big motivation for getting a Soda Stream system in the first place, even though our unit has a re-usable plastic bottle. But we still had a concern about using plastic for storage so we bought two glass carafes. Now we just make the carbonated water in the plastic bottle our system requires and then immediately transfer it to a glass carafe - one for plain and the other for flavored. The glass carafes have good tight screw-on caps that keep the fizz in very nicely. x
