Excellent sound performance w/ Dolby Atmos/DTS:X!

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - January 6, 2019

I have only had this receiver for about a week but I am already so pleased with it! I upgraded from a STR-DH520 and the output quality with the 790 blows me away! The sound fields are a huge upgrade and I love Pure Direct for crystal clear audio and hearing songs in movies without sound effects. Pair this with a 4K television, 4K UHD Sony UBP-X700 Player, HDR10, Dolby Atmos speakers and 21Gbps bandwidth and you're in for a real treat! The metal casing is a little flimsy but that helps with reduced heat absorption so it's okay. Also, be careful with the optical port or you will break the little door, it's very fragile! The unit is so much lighter compared to previous models and that's always a good thing. Bluetooth pairing is like night and day and it's so good. I have an LG V40 and am able to use DTS:X with Bluetooth pairing thanks to the Quad DAC in the phone! This is a great receiver for anyone who wants amazing studio quality audio, surround sound glory and a future proofed receiver without breaking the bank!

    Some takeaways!

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - February 6, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Switched from an Insignia stereo receiver to this, as I now have a 4K Dolby Atmos capable system. More than enough inputs & outputs for what I have. A couple takeaways: - Pretty slim design overall. A little smaller than other receivers out there. - Knobs are a little harder to turn than other receivers but it’s a nice touch. Instant loud sound gratification is not gratified LOL - A lot of settings for the price. - Remote is OK. Pretty compact and built for presets and inputs. No on-remote bass/treble buttons. - Have to disconnect Bluetooth device in order for system to remain off. If not, system will turn back on. - Good directions, build quality, and sound output. A little bass heavy but nothing a good subwoofer can’t fix.

Missing things bent things but it works as designe

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - February 9, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As for the receiver it is decent for the price . I dont know all the functions as the instructions came in French and Spanish only. This is iowa so why not right. The front panel is bent and the inside is no longer dirty as I have cleaned it. The mic cable was tied in a knot to the power cable so it was at least present unlike the fm antenna dont know why they didnt use coax now I get to ask sony for a replacement all in all sounds good works good does what a cheap receiver does. The max power is a stupid rating rms real output of 45 watts a channel into 8 ohms is more realistic come on sony dont be like the cheap ebay brands dont use improper ratings. Atmos would be dope if I knew how to get it set up guess ill learn Spanish I know a lot so ot wont be too hard. Maybe a year and ill be able to read the manual.

    Amazing Upgrade

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - May 8, 2023

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Upgraded my Yamaha RX-V4A to this wonderful receiver. Having recently purchased the Bravia Oled 95k I needed something that would support Atmos to get the best out of my home theater. Pairing this with Sony Core Series towers I couldn’t be happier. Watching Dune on blue ray I was able to pick up details in sounds that I couldn’t hear before. The richness and fullness is incredible. I look forward to watching more movies and being fully immersed.

    Denon is Audio

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - May 15, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I debated and looked at many reviews to upgrade my AV system. Got a new 65" Samsung q70 tv and my old Panasonic receiver just didnt work well with the latest technology. I ordered a sony online and it wasn't up to par so i returned it to my local Best Buy and found this gem of a receiver. Very happy with the functions and compatibility to all the latest and greatest features at a decent price. Rocks my klipsch 7.1 Soundstage.

    Perfect pairing

    Reviewed by - April 29, 2024

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I absolutely love Sony products and have most my life. I had purchased STR-DH790 Multi Channel AV Receiver along with all the bells and whistles however now I’m wanting the 11.2 or better. I certainly recommend this. It’s perfectly paired with the Sony UBP-X800M2 Ultra HD Blu-ray™ / DVD Player, and the speakers for the final touch SS-CSE Dolby Atmos® Enabled, and Sony - Core Series Dual 5" 3-Way Floorstanding Speaker.

    Phenomenal sound!

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - June 11, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Does exactly what it’s supposed to do. My game room sounds amazing now, with my Series X running in Atmos, and my PS5 in Dolby surround, including the height speakers I bought. I could not be happier.
