Western Digital 4TB my Passport Ultra Blue

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - February 2, 2023

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased My Passport Ultra Blue portable external hard drive recently and this was the best purchase I’ve made in a long time. I’ve been using flash drives to store all of my data and this one device replace all of them. Download speeds are exceptional and storage space is amazing. Would highly recommend.

    Simple. Dependable. Portable.

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - September 30, 2019

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the third WD portable drive I've owned and I've never had an issue with any of them. Comes with USB-C port and cable but includes the standard USB 3.1 adapter. Housing seems strong and well designed. Password protection and file management is simple and doesn't require you install any thing on your computer to use. You can install a host of free software tools that allow you to take full advantage of this drive. I just use mine for a media back-up so I don't install anything to keep the process simple and quick. Which is nice due to some competitors require bloat ware just to encrypt or manage their drive.

    Who could ask for more?

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - June 17, 2021

Simply amazing device. I can not get over just how compact this 5 TB drive is. Data transfer rates are incredibly fast (this is a native USB-C device). Comes with NTFS file system pre-formatted (which I find far more space efficient than exFAT). Low power requirements, easily supplied by most USB-3 and USB-C ports. Comes with a USB-3 to USB-C adaptor. If using a Windows 10 Pro computer, I strongly recommend using the Win 10 Bitlocker capability to encrypt all the data you place on this drive. Drives this small hold a lot and can be easily misplaced. If that happens, you want to lose the drive but not your privacy!

WD 4T my passport ultra excellent portable drive

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - September 11, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My passport ultra 4T from WD, this is good portable drive, i also own a 1T that is almost full that is why i bought the 4T to backup all my files from the 1T & to have additional spaces. I never had any issue with my passport ultra, they are fast when transferring data & easy to use. So far so good w/ the 4T, i specifically like the metal case frame on the 4 T, they only thing i am not a big fan is installing the WD software on my PC. It's a great portable drive based on past experience they are very reliable, i hope the 4T will be as good as the 1T & the 250G i owned for quite some time.

Drive failed as soon as the warranty expired

    Reviewed by - November 5, 2021

I purchased a 4TB My Passport a few years ago and it worked fairly well in the first year or two of backing up photos and such, but as soon as the warranty expired in January of this year, the drive started having major issues. SMART tests failed, data transfers would hang, everything that could go wrong did go wrong. If you are thinking of purchasing one of these drives, I would consider another drive with more reliability, and better warranty coverage given that this drive is prone to fail, and fail spectacularly. I have been unable to recover most of my data from the drive, leaving me quite put out. Again, do not purchase this drive unless you are willing to lose everything that you put on it.

    Slow transfer

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - July 30, 2020

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] good capacity storage, I bought it for my ps4. However, transfer speeds are super slow. Took 25 minutes to transfer 100gb of games. I read that ssd is much better since it is faster. For the price I taught it will be much faster. The design looks good and looks durable.

    Pretty quick, high capacity storage

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - July 31, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Purchased this due to many reviews listing it as one of the fastest external drives available right now. Yes, an external SSD is faster, but for this capacity is extremely expensive. The size and performance of this drive work well for my needs. It is supplementing an ultralight 2-in-1 for files I don't always need access to. It is fast enough that I can run GTA5 off of it without making the load times any worse than when I had it installed on an internal hard drive (not SSD). Ultimately, it is a high capacity drive, with enough performance to get you by.

    Included cable is useless

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - February 15, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Seems robust and well made, similar to other WD products. I owned several WD HDDs over the years and never experienced a problem. The old WD HDDs still work. I bought this one solely because of the USB-C connection. I wanted to plug it in my computer without using adaptors. It was very disappointing that the included USB-C cable was bad. The connections did not fit in the USB-C ports on my computer or in the HDD. I had to spend and extra $20 on a new cable. This is the reason for 3 stars, for not recommending to a friend, and only one star for "value".
