Create the Ultimate Rec Room with Multi-Game Tables
Multi-game tables are a great option when you’re short on space but determined to create the rec room (or “man cave”) of your dreams. Whether you’re setting up a games room for your kids or designing the ultimate escape zone for the guys, a multi-game table ensures you always have a place to socialize and share some laughs with friends and family.
Unlike single-purpose game tables, such as a pool table or ping pong table, multi-game tables can be quickly converted from one game to another. Some even come with a plain table top option as well, allowing them to double as a dining table or for playing standard board games. That means you get lots of variety in a single space-saving design.
Types of Multi-Game Tables
The most common multi-game tables are either 3-in-1 or 4-in-1, meaning they can be converted to 3 or 4 different games in a matter of seconds, but it’s possible to find tables with as many as 10 different game options.
Aside from the number of games included, there are three main types of multi-game tables to choose from – attachable top, flip, and hybrid. Each type converts from one game to another in slightly different ways. If you’re not sure what type is best for you, here’s a quick look at what each one offers.
Attachable Top
Attachable top multi-game tables are among the most common and usually feature the most game configurations. They consist of a fixed top that’s configured for a specific game, plus additional tops for different games. These additional tops are placed directly over the original top and voila -- in a matter of seconds you have an entirely new game to play.
Flip
Flip multi-game tables consist of a single top attached to a turning mechanism. Each side of the top features a different game. The top can be “flipped” or turned and locked securely into place. These tables don’t offer as much variety as an attachable top multi-game table, but they convert from one game to another with speed and simplicity.
Hybrid
Hybrid multi-game tables offer the best of both attachable top and flip tables. They consist of a top section that can be flipped or turned and locked into place (just like a flip table) plus a selection of attachable tops. Hybrid tables offer a great combination of both variety and convenience.
Most Common Types of Games
The most common types of games included with multi-game tables are popular pub and rec room games like billiards, foosball, air hockey, and table tennis. In some cases, the table may be smaller than a standard-sized play area for a particular game, such as billiards.
Other games you’ll find in multi-game tables include basketball, chess, checkers, backgammon, and bumper pool. If you’re a card player, look for a table that converts into a poker playing surface. And if you’re a regular board game player, look for a table that includes a plain table top option.
