What Is Microsoft Surface?

Microsoft Surface started with the release of the first Surface tablets in 2013. Since then, Surface has expanded to include a wide range of branded hardware and accessories from Microsoft, including the Microsoft Surface keyboard, the Surface Pen, several laptop options, a Surface desktop PC, and a dock.

When there’s a sale on Microsoft Surface hardware, be sure to check for those accessories as they are the ideal way to make your Surface experience even better.

Is Surface a tablet or laptop?

When this question is asked, people are usually talking about the Microsoft Surface Pro. The first of the “prosumer” category of tablets, this is a premium, high resolution tablet with an Intel processor that runs Windows 10. With an optional Type Cover and its built-in kickstand, the Surface Pro can be used as a laptop. So it’s really both: tablet and laptop. The newest Microsoft Surface Pro 6 has a 12.3-inch PixelSense display and 8th generation Intel Core processors.

When you compare Microsoft Surface to other options, the flexibility is outstanding.

For a more traditional laptop experience, Microsoft has two additional options. The Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 is a slim Windows 10 laptop with a high-resolution PixelSense touch display and unique Alcantara fabric keyboard. The Microsoft Surface Book 2 is a high powered laptop with an innovative Dynamic Fulcrum Hinge that lets you detach its PixelSense display and use it as a slate. Both new Microsoft Surface laptops are available with 13.5-inch or 15-inch displays.

Can Microsoft Surface Pro replace a laptop?

Equipped with an optional Type Cover, the Microsoft Surface Pro (and the smaller Surface Go) work well as laptop replacements, but their kickstand makes them best suited for use on a desktop. Add a wireless Surface mouse and they are great portable workstations.

If you need a laptop that you can actually use on your lap for an extended time, the solid bases of the Microsoft Surface Laptop and Microsoft Surface Book make them a better choice.

Does Microsoft Surface have LTE?

All Surface tablets, laptops and the Studio 2 Microsoft Surface desktop are equipped with fast 802.11ac Wi-Fi. For always-on connectivity even when no Wi-Fi hotspots are available, the Microsoft Surface Pro and Surface Go also offer the option of LTE wireless connectivity.
