What customers are saying

The air purifier filters are effective in improving indoor air quality and reducing allergens. They are easy to install and maintain, creating a fresher, cleaner environment, especially for those with respiratory issues or living in areas with high pollen or smoke levels. However, some customers have experienced issues with a strong plastic-like odor from the filters, though this appears to have been addressed in more recent purchases. While the high cost of replacement filters is a common complaint, long-term users are generally very satisfied and would recommend the product.

3rd set of 400 filters with toxic plastic smell

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - November 5, 2017

I bought 2 filters over the summer from a 3rd hand distributor. They were so strongly permeated with the smell of the plastic wrap they came in that I choose not to use them even in the midst of 400ppm (ie dangerous) wildfire air quality over the summer. I returned those and ordered from a different dealer. Same toxic plastic smell. Finally, I thought maybe these were old filters that sat too long in a hot warehouse or something and just ordered directly from Blueair. The filters arrived and while they smelled significantly less plastic-y than the others, the smell is still strong enough and persistent enough that I am no longer going to use this machine.

    Lousy Smell

    Reviewed by - May 2, 2019

I've used my blueair for the past 4 years. I've never had a problem until the one I just got 2 days ago. Susan and Maria are absolutely correct!!!!! There is a chemical smell coming from the new filter. I plan on purchasing another brand and will not come back to Blueair. I'm afraid the accountants have taken over and they are now using a Chinese supplier. This smell is reminiscent of articles I read about Chinese dry wall being permeated with a toxic reactive chemical. I use to love Blueair but can no longer recommend it.

    On the fence.

I have used a Blueair for thirty years now. In the beginning the filters smelled great when first changed. For about ten years now they have not smelled good when first put into the machine. It is a ritual for me now to spend four days running the machine on high during the day, and then at night switching back to the old filter (because the machine is in the bedroom, where I need it). Finally the smell goes down enough so that it does not make me feel ill. After about 2 weeks the smell is gone. The machine still works so I continue to buy filters for it and I do need air purifying in the bedroom. In the basement we have an IQ Air which works fine down there, not sure it would be a good fit for a bedroom. Not sure what else to say. Would I recommend this to a friend? Maybe, maybe not.

I recently purchased a filter for my 400 series blue air purifier , they asked for a review , I am happy to recommend their air purifiers and filters , live in NYC , face a busy avenue, prior to my blue air purifier I was prone to respiratory issues - colds - bronchitis - since I have had my Blue Air purifier - I have left respiratory issues behind - can't recommend their product enough - clean air is good living !

    smell

    Reviewed by - March 15, 2019

I just turned on for the first time my Blueair 605. I have been waiting patiently for it but now I have to turn it off! The smell from the filter is giving me a sinus headache! I can't believe it. I had a Kenmore air cleaner and it never smelled or gave me any sinus headache. It must be the cardboard that surrounds the filter or the charcoal itself but I have no choice but to turn off and see if I can return.

Gross chemical smell is finally gone!

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - October 16, 2020

After using my BlueAir 445EB filter constantly since 2010, I returned my last 2 orders of Blueair filters (Dec 2019 & Apr 2020) because of an extremely nauseating chemical smell. I was frustrated and just about to e-recycle my machine because I couldn't get a good replacement filter. However, I decided to wait some more and try once more...and it looks like Blueair shaped up sometime in the last 6 months!

Happy to have with PNW fires right now

In the lower mainland of B.C. we are getting a lot of smoke. Having recently recovered from COVID-19, I was coughing a lot recently due to the heavy smoke we have experienced in September. Going into my bedroom where I have my 400 Classic is a Godsend. I can breathe clearly and not cough anymore! I am so happy! Yup, it is expensive but it just works. There is no price a person can put on health.

    Pollen-Free

EXCELLENT Filters ..... Especially for POLLEN. I live in a Forest in Rural North Florida where PINE POLLEN is so Abundant even my roof gets tainted Yellow-Green from late February through March annually. Additionally, during the Summers they filter out all the Grass and Weed Pollens. These 400 Series Filters are GREAT and keep my indoor air POLLEN-Free ..... LOVE 'Em!

    Excellent product

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - July 6, 2021

I bought my Blueair purifier years ago and it's been running non-stop except for the few minutes it takes every 6 months to slip in a new filter. I originally got it for my allergies, but it's been a lifesaver during heat waves and when the air is too smokey from forest fires to go outdoors. One of the best purchases I've ever made.

    Simple and Functional

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - September 9, 2016

I have been using Blue Air filters for the last 4 years and our allergic reaction to pollen and other allergens in the air at home is greatly reduced. We now have 3 Blue air machines and a small personal desk Pod. Replacement filters are easily obtained directly from Blue Air. We will continue to happily use our Blue Air filters.
