What customers are saying

The microwave oven is generally well-received, with many users praising its efficient performance, user-friendly features, and sleek design. Customers highlight its versatile cooking capabilities, including sensor cooking and reheating options. However, some have reported issues with the microwave's durability, while a few have noted concerns about the noise level, visibility of the control panel, and the lighting and volume of the alarms. Overall, the microwave appears to be a reliable and satisfactory appliance for most users, despite a small number of reported problems.

    First unit lasted 6 yrs

    Reviewed by - November 14, 2023

First unit ( model HMV5052U 1100w 2.1cu ft. Above stove lasted 6 yrs. Used by elderly couple for warming up soups, softening rolls, boiling water. Lights and clock worked but suddenly, it Started blowing circuit breaker when pressing start. Tried other outlets with same result. A unit this expensive should last more than occasional light use. Only reason I bought another is because of the location it needed to go into. This model ( HMV 5053U is IDENTICAL to my old one. Absolutely NO DIFFERENCE inside or out. Just has a One digit numerical change in model number. See photos first was 2016 model, second is 2023 replacement

only had 4 months and its broken in two places

    Reviewed by - March 4, 2025

(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) Bought 4 months ago and the bottom front face plate keeps popping out. I push it back and a couple of weeks later it pops out again. ive just been putting up with it. Today i opened the door and the top grill piece above the door fell and crashed on my stove top. The plastic clips that snap it back in place are broken. I thought Bosch was better quality. Very dissapointed.

    Fantastic Microwave

    Reviewed by - January 13, 2019

(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) Loving this new microwave from Bosch, especially the dual oven feature. The unit just looks and feels expensive. The LED lighting to illuminate the cooktop below is nice and bright. I also like having several fan speeds. The unit cooks food thoroughly, via both heating options. I wish the unit had one-touch features. Most microwaves have the option of just pushing the #5 button and you then can heat your food for five minutes. With this unit you actually have to program in five minutes. It's the difference of pushing four buttons versus just one. Not a huge deal but it takes some getting used to when you're most familiar with just one one-touch feature. Overall I love this microwave though.

    Great replacement.

    Reviewed by - December 17, 2020

Bought this to replace another Bosch microwave unit. The old one worked great, used daily for 10 years and finally wore out. Selected this unit because it was an updated model with the same specs. Very easy to change out, all the mounting brackets and hardware were the same. The lights are better than the old one, everything else looks great. May have a problem with the ventilation as that has changed from the original design but time will tell. Original venting was out the front of the microwave, the new one is upwards which can put moisture on the cupboard doors over the oven. Very pleased with Bosch appliances, have the dishwasher also.

    Noisy Fan

    Reviewed by - December 30, 2021

We paid twice as much as other brands to get the Bosch quality and were very disappointed at the level of noise caused by fan vibration at anything other than maximum speed. Did they not test any other speed? Assuming we got a lemon, I ordered another microwave and it was noisy too. Anticipating returning both we went to a store that had models that could be run and found they ALL were noisy on any setting other that highest. There must be only one fan manufacturer on the planet. When the warranty expires I will take it apart and fix it myself and likely go with a cheaper model next time.

Replacement Bosch 500 Series OTR Microwave

    Reviewed by - April 5, 2026

(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) Bosch 500 Series OTR microwave replacement installed on April 3, 2026. Previous was manufactured in 2011. Changes: 1) The new microwave didn't fit. We had to install drywall behind the microwave so it was flush with the backsplash and thus, could drop lower; 2) The timer's alarm is very soft. If you are not standing next to you cannot hear it. The old timer was much louder; 3) Still no 24 hour clock although the convection oven had 24 hour clock. Why? 4) The front is all steamed up as was the old one. Is the fan defective? 5) Much bigger inside than the old one.

    Microwave

(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) Works well with many features. I would have liked to see a nonplastic touchpad like the other appliances but that is a very small issue.

    Poor design and Doesn't last

    Reviewed by - August 21, 2023

The first microwave I bought lasted over 20 years and was still working fine. We spent more miney for a Bosch and after a couple of years it started to give us trouble. The dorr latches cause the fuse to blow and it has to be unmounted to get at it. Finally I cut a hole in the top so I could change the fuse without total diss-assembly. i have changed the interlock switches and mouts twice and it only helps for a short while. This is a poor design and on top of it they make it difficult to repair. Will probably get a cheap one next time. It will probably last longer.

    Not good, strange behaviours

    Reviewed by - January 12, 2026

After only a few days of use I noticed the following issues with this newly installed unit: 1. Abnormal exhaust fan noise When switching the exhaust fan from level 4 down to level 3, an additional noise appears, and the overall sound actually becomes louder instead of quieter. This noise continues even when further reducing the fan to level 2 or level 1, and it is quite annoying. 2. Loud noise after operation stops At times, after the microwave finishes operating, it continues to produce a very loud noise. This can occur even after a very short use, such as heating two slices of bread for about 10 seconds. In some cases, the noise lasts for several minutes. Opening or closing the door during this time does not stop the sound. 3. Steam trapped inside the door Occasionally, steam from the cooktop enters the interior of the microwave door. The moisture appears to be trapped between the door layers and cannot be wiped off from either side. It only disappears on its own after a few minutes. I never experienced any of these strange things with any other OTRs I used before, but I was told these are normal behaviours of Bosch OTR and the newer 800 series OTR behaves the same.
