Outstanding after several months of ownership.

This espresso machine is of utmost quality. The grinder is powerful and doesn't seem to have any issues with oilier beans. I find the adjustments on it have fine enough resolution. The programmable aspects of this machine (temperature and volume) are a little un-intuitive but the average user probably won't adjust them ever and the experienced will set-and-forget. I love the thoughtful touches on this machine, the large water resovoir means infrequent refilling, and intuitively, there's a very large (easy to clean) drip tray to match! The auto-shutoff on the hot water spigot is the perfect amount for a 10oz Americano after you've pulled your double-shot. The cleaning kit is a nice addition and the inclusion of 4 filter baskets makes this machine more versatile than others out of the box. For the inexperienced, the filter baskets included are two sets of single and double-shot volume. One set is single walled, the other double walled. The enthusiasts will appreciate the tune-ability of single walled baskets while more casual espresso drinkers will probably enjoy the consistency of the double walled basket. The build quality is also outstanding, this coming from someone who works in medical device engineering. Mostly stainless construction with limited plastic. Heavy design that won't move around on the counter and sits dead level. The buttons and switches in addition to the portafilter itself feel excellent. I couldn't have designed it better myself. I have not had to clean it internally yet, we've had it for about 2 months so I don't know how difficult that process is yet. If I had to gripe about one thing, it's the single boiler construction. I totally get it from a cost saving perspective but there is about a 15-20 second delay between turning on the milk frother and steam being produced. Not surprising on machines around this price but something to be aware of. I see we can't mention prices here, but let's just say you should wait for a sale, it's OK value at full price but seems to be frequently discounted making it an outstanding deal.

Amazing cafe quality coffee at home

I did extensive research & finally settled for the Breville barista Express. I must say, I was not disappointed!! It truly lives up to its reputation. I now look forward to waking up in the morning to make my coffee. My only suggestion for improvement would be to improve the coating of the steam wand. Even after wiping the milk immediately after use, its still tough to get all the hardened milk off easily. I highly recommend this machine to anyone looking for cafe quality coffee at home.

We have had this Espresso machine for almost two years. It gets used daily, up to four times and maybe more. It has run flawlessly for us. Very simple to use, once you get used to it. We went from a Keurig to this amazing machine. We highly recommend it. Get it on sale, as we did from Best Buy. If your not getting espresso, make sure that you adjust the grind setting wheel that is on the side and also make sure that you are tamping the ground coffee with ample pressure. Its a bit of a learning curve. Lots of Youtube videos out there to help. Also changing coffee beans effects the espresso (hence changing the grind setting and tamping). We stick with a couple of brands of beans and have consistent results. Enjoy!

absolutely amazing

I purchased this machine a couple of months ago. At first it was a bit tricky to get it working but I eventually figured it out. I used to go to starbucks everyday to get coffee but after I purchased this machine I realized that there would be no need anymore. the taste of the coffee is just amazing; even better than the ones you get at coffee shops. Highly recommend it.

Best coffee ever!

I am very happy with my Breville Barista Express. I bought it because I was buying Americano's at Starbucks and wanted to create my own. Mine are much better. One thing to note is the default one and two cup settings are set to dispense one or 2 oz of water (not coffee) and when used at this setting produces a very horrible espresso shot. You need to reprogram the buttons based on a real typical espresso shot time that works with the coffee you are using. For instance for Starbucks espresso roast I have the grinder set to 6 and programed the 1 shot to 17 seconds to get 1 oz of espresso. For the 2 shot button it take about 28 seconds to get 2oz of espresso. This is from the time I hit the button to the 2 oz measuring mark. Again I am very impressed with this machine and would highly recommend it.

Just made my first shot

After my first attempt using freshly roasted beans from local roaster I have made an amazing coffee. Unit is smaller than I was expecting. Works fast. Very easy to use even if you don't really know how to make coffee. There is no point going to starbucks anymore :D

Great Espresso Machine

This machine produces perfect espresso, latte and cappuccino! Very easy to operate. Just love it!!

Awesome machine

Love this machine. You can make an expresso, latte, machiatto, cappucino exactly the way you like it. It takes some practice to get it right. I am turning into a coffee snob with this one. Now I have to decide if I am taking this or my SUP to Mexico.

Awesome no stress coffee system delivery

Bought this last year and it is a great machine; prior had a very very expensive Swiss made machine for 10+ years and was reluctant to go to a more generic brand. But this little machine does the trick and is zero maintenance in ease of use and upkeep. I recommend this coffee system whole heartedly

Wooo-eeeeee! Coffee of champions!

I bought this lil machine just under a year ago and it has been a game changer. I used to rely on going to a store for lattes, but now I can make the perfect cup at home. My partner, who doesn't drink coffee, was questioning if our budget could handle such an elaborate expense. Well it went on sale and now I justify it every morning with my delicious maple syrup latte. How the books balancing now girl?

Great Machine

We weren't sure going into this purchase as it was a lot of money, but after having it for a couple of months it is hard to imagine ourselves without it. Having no experience with the machine it took a lot of failed attempts over a week of learning but eventually we had great Americanos and Lattes. We did have a problem with the steam wand failing - it would stop while steaming milk and then have to be turned off and back on and a lot of what would come out was water, not steam. I took it back to the store where I purchased it and got a hassle free exchange - the second unit is much better. This seemed like a lot of money when we bought it, but it is slowly paying for itself as we would go out to grab coffees something like two to four times per week and in the two months we've had the machine I think we've been three times? Yes, very happy with it.

Great Machine, be careful with descaling!

I bought this machine July 2016. I make about 2 to 4 expresso's a day. It has been very solid and once you learn to dial it in it is very easy to get really good crema. I do want to warn against descaling with 50/50 vinegar solution per the manual. I did this and mine is now making a high pitch screeching sound and other people online have indicated this wrecks the selanoid. Luckily I had the 2 year extended warranty so I just picked up a brand new machine. I'm very happy with it but in the future I will buy proper descaling solution.

Nice machine but...

I bought this machine while on sale. It arrived quickly, only a couple days after ordering. The machine is larger then I anticipated which makes it look almost commercial. Quality seemed good. Assembled it, put the beans in and hit the grind function and NOTHING. Dissembled the grinder, cleaned it, and tried again but no luck. Unfortunately, my local Best Buy doesn't stock this item so I had to return it. I will order another one again during the next sale as this still seems to be the best rated 'affordable' espresso machine on the market.

Great espresso machine

Got the Breville Barista 3 weeks ago, i had a baby Gaggia 17 years ago then broke down and i did not buy another espresso coffee machine for few years. made my first cappuccino the same day that the Breville arrived. It tested like the cappuccino at the bar in Italy, wow impressed .

  • from Toronto, ON

Very impressive!

I never review products. I bought this machine to replace a much more expensive machine that had finally broken down. The Breville came with four baskets, a water filter, some descaling tablets, a cleaning kit, the tamper, a coffee leveller and even included the milk steaming jug! The documentation was great. The auto dose feature for the grinder is adjustable, the grind can be adjusted quickly with a dial outside the machine and even allows for another level of control by adjusting the outer burr. The auto dose of espresso can also be adjusted for both single and double shots, as can the temperature. The quality of the espresso is terrific and the milk steamer works very well. Unless you are regularly making many lattes at once this machine will work very well for you.

Breville Barista Espresso Machine

Nice machine. Decided to upgrade to this model of Breville after about ten years of trouble free service from the old basic Breville. I do need to tell you that I used to work in the coffee retail business some years ago. Overall, it is a better crafted machine, and all of the moving and fitted parts meet up precisely for a better fit all around. It is nice to be able to grind the beans fresh, just before brewing - hassle free. Some spillage of ground beans can be expected, but once tamped and brewed, it produces excellent coffee. It is the best coffee I have tasted at home. Choose your beans carefully, as they are not all the same. The steam nozzle is fantastic. It is easy to get micro foam to get a perfect Flat White. You do need to enjoy hands - on coffee making, as it is not as simple to use as a Nespresso or Keurig in a press and go way. The pre fab pods of those machines produce a lot of waste. With this machine, you just need to dispose of your grounds responsibly.

New to Expresso, this is excellent!!

I was recently introduced to the expresso world by my European neighbour. I decided to invest in this Breville model. I have learned to use it well. My neighbour recently upgraded his machine and spent over 6k for his machine, and I believe mine makes the same if not better cappuccino, latte etc. I would highly recommend this model for anyone who wants one for their kitchen counter. Make sure to get an extended warranty just in case. I did, haven't needed it so far, but it's a piece of mind at least. Best buy price matched it to another website which had it on sale. I liked getting it locally, with somewhere to return it if I have to. We use it on a daily basis and it performs well. Happy expresso hunting.

Just love this machine

Upgraded from my Keurig machine and I couldn't be happier. Love this machine. Easy to use. Easy to clean. Tons of options but and convenient bean holder and grinder integrated into a small but efficient machine. Looks great and the coffee is fantastic. Highly recommend

Coffee machine

Hi the machine is pretty good I expected better I own a saeco machine and I wanted to upgrade but I think the saeco is a better simpler machine that makes great coffee I'm going to return the Breville it did not meet my expectations but it's a decent machine. Btw it was suppose to be free delivery to the house but it never got here I had to chase Best Buy and canada post to find out where this item was so I ended up picking it up at the post office after all the chasing so much for free delivery the post office is further tgan the best buy store please don't send any apologies it's all good.

Breville Barista Express

This coffee machine makes the best espresso and cappuccino I've ever had from a home machine. In terms of taste its definitely a 5 star. The machine however does require time and some effort to make a coffee. It can make a mess with the grinds falling out etc. If you don't enjoy the process of making a coffee that requires the effort then it might be a bit frustrating in the mornings as you rush to work. That being said it makes tastier coffee in my opinion than a Jura machine my parents use and costs 4x as much.

This is a great starter machine and product. I have had no troubles with this machine or complaints. I would definitely recomend this machine to any person who is looking for a starter machine.

Great coffee maker . Takes a few iterations to get the right amount of coffee. Once that is did, it is a great experience Coffee takes great Coffee maker solidly built

  • from Bedford, NS

Very good machine.

If you like a little control when doing your coffee this is one of the best, only downside is you can't do espresso and froting simultaneously plus one correction, country of origin is not Canada is China.

Home Barista Perfection

I was delighted when this machine went on sale. It makes being a home-barista easy. Now my cappuccinos are better than lots I have purchased at coffee shops. It is easy to create perfect micro-foam. Take time to watch videos and read the booklet so you can adjust for over and under extraction and soon you will have it just right. If you're interested in espresso perfection this machine is for you.

  • from Newmarket, ON

Best in its price range

Wife snapped when I brought it home but after a latte she was impressed. Tastes exactly like a coffee shop. I was originally going to buy the saeco xsmall vapore but after seeing how cool this one looks I had to get it. Great features to customize the tast of your espresso also very easy to follow start up guide. Only two negatives to this machine are, wish the grinder was ceramic and two it's made in China, almost didn't buy it for that reason as the saeco is made in Italy. That being said the quality seems to be there, and the machine works amazingly.

5 stars all the way

I love my new espresso machine. Very easy to use and makes a very delicious drink every time. Seriously worth every penny.

  • from Toronto, ON

This is our fourth espresso machine and the first that is not completely automatic. We were afraid that it might be "to demanding" - instead it became a ritual for us every time when we feel like drinking coffee and that is few times a day! Possibly unhealthy but gratifying! The only thing that machine misses is warning that there is no water in the container otherwise great machine. Took me a bit of time to get the taste that I want but... now it's a perfect cup every time! Great machine. Thumbs up!

Amazing Machine

I was spending way too much buying lattes every day at Starbucks and decided to purchase an espresso machine. After doing a lot of research, I decided to get the Brevilla Barista Express. After using it for 3 weeks, I feel that I can finally make the perfect latte. It took a little exploring to get the right grind and dosage amount but once I got them just right, it was all smooth sailing. Americanos are a breeze to make thanks to the built in water spout. I love that the machine has a built in tool tray to keep all of the accessories in and that the drip tray is easy to remove and clean. The water tank and bean hopper capacity are also really good and don't require constant refilling. The only thing Breville could do to improve this machine would be to add a double boiler.

  • from Toronto, ON

easy to use

I was a bit worried this would take a while to learn how to use but the instructions are very easy to understand and they included a condensed version for quick reference. We are loving this espresso machine, it makes excellent tasting coffee and part of the joy is seeing the beautiful crema on each cup of joe!

My First Real Machine

I have always used a French press or an espresso stove top pot but really like the ability to make the kind of coffee l want anytime. Cafe Americano for the morning an espresso in the afternoon to keep going and a cappuccino for after dinner. I have played around with the grind settings and can not see too much difference fro one setting or the other. The quantity of coffee is usually too much when set in the middle as suggested so l have it set to the least amount you can dial in but still have excess spillage. I also found that the "Shot" is a little short of an ounce so have played with that to increase the volume but still find that running the water through the coffee twice give a nice volume and flavour. The thing about coffee is no two people have the same taste in what they like but the variables offered with this machine offer everyone to find their perfect cup (with a bit of trial and error). Best Buy seems to put it on sale bi-weekly so watch out for the sales and buy when the price is down. The grinder being incorporated into the machine is a real plus and l am glad l didn't purchase the machine without the grinder even though it was cheaper.

  • from Red Deer Ab

This machine is fantastic. I feel like a real Barista. My only suggestion would be watch all the how to videos you can.. It is a full function machine and its as good as its operator.. I love that it doesn't take up the entire counter as its only a little larger than my conventional drip machine. Really surprizing how many beans I use..and the over grinded beans go into a bowl I keep under the grinder then we just use that in our coffee machine.

I like it!!

I purchased the Barista Express three weeks ago to replace my 22 yeard old Saeco espresso whose water/steam pump broke. The Barista Express' newer technology makes it easier to use. I had to adjust the grinder a few times to get the prefect shot of espresso, which is usual. The steam for the milk is quick and works well. The wand is easy to clean. I also like the hot water outlet to warm up the cups, or make tea. I am pleased with my new Barista Express, it makes a great coffee, it is a good choice to replace my old Saeco. I hope it will last another 22 years.

Pleasantly surprised

I purchased the Barista Express a couple of weeks ago to replace my Rancilio Miss Lucy after 16 years of loyal service. Purchasing the Breville machine was a compromise as I could not afford to re-equip my kitchen with a new Rancilio system. That said it looked like it could make a decent home espresso (after reading many online reviews) so I decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised with the results. After only a couple of shots I was able to tune the grinder settings to produce consistently great shots of espresso. My wife and I use different beans (she drinks decaf). We are able to get consistently good coffee simply by keeping track of our grind and dosing settings and switching between them (the analog controls are very easy to change). The Barista Express heats up quickly. I never have to wait. By the time I have tamped the grounds the machine is ready to brew. The steam is also ready to use very quickly. I had to change my routine to take the milk out before I switch on the steam, otherwise I end up rushing. Steaming milk took a bit of getting used to as the Barista Express does not have as much steam pressure as my Rancilio did. So it takes a little longer to steam, but I have more control and in the end make a nicer micro foam. One thing that I find mildly annoying is that the machine purges the steam if you close the steam valve for more than 8 seconds. It's not a problem though, now that the machine has "trained me" to quickly insert the steam wand into the milk jug and re-open the steam valve. The up-side of this is that the machine is quickly ready to brew another shot of espresso after you are done steaming your milk. So overall, I am really satisfied with this new espresso machine and look forward to using it every day. I suspect it may not last me as long as my Rancilio, but at half the price I am willing to find out.

My first espresso machine

I bought the machine in december based on some of the reviews I read. I am really pleased with how easy it is to use and the quality of the coffee it makes.Another good thing is that you can control the grind coarseness and quantity and therefore can experiment to get the best coffee possible.I'm really happy that I did not choose a superautomatic.I almost did. This is easy and a lot of fun and just as quick. The only negatives I see so far is that the cup warmer is not really capable of warming anything and there is some spilage of coffee when you use the grinder which I do all the time.Usually I put a plate under the grinder so I can collect it.I only use bottled water since our water is very hard I do not feel like descaling it too soon.I'm having a blast with it ,so highly recommended. Today I brewed my first Americano using the double filter.Amazing taste!

  • from Newmarket, ON

Great Machine

I bought the machine after carefully reviewing the different options that were available. The machine makes great coffee and the milk froth works well. I like the feel and look of the machine. With the features it has, it comes at a great price. The only complaint would be that the grinder and settings require a bit of work and adjusting. I have found that for a double espresso, a single shot setting with the setting to near full (clockwise) works great with little or no mess while for a single espresso, a single shot with less (counter clockwise) setting works. I found that using the double setting creates more of a mess.

  • from Candiac, QC

Love it (the second one)

The first machine I received was defective, wrong grind amounts and a weak compressor. I was wondering if I was stupid, I had had an espresso machine for years and I knew a bit about amounts of coffee and pressure, both of packing and water. I could not get this thing to make a decent shot, no way. Anyway, I sent it back, no problem whatsoever. received the new one and WOW. This is the machine I was hoping for. It works as it's supposed to, grinding amounts are perfect, I pack the coffee with a good solid 20 lbs of compression, the water pressure is nominal, the shot comes out perfectly, crema, smooth, real good. I'm impressed with the quality of the construction, the way everything is well thought out, tight, quiet, I love it. Too bad the first one was such a piece of junk. I guess China's quality control is quite up to what it should be.

  • from Vancouver

Great Machine, Great Brand

I bought this Breville Espresso machine not too long ago, and was very impressed at the price point, considering it had the full bean-grinding functionality. Most other espresso machines with these functions are over 800 dollars, so this one was the most bang for my buck. All components work well, and so far I am very impressed by the machine. This was my first espresso machine, and I always assumed they would be hard to use, but Breville has step-by-step directions, and the machine does most of the work for you. This is a very good product, and works like a charm, I would recommend this to beginners and experienced espresso makers/drinkers. P.S. this DOES include the silver milk frothing jug, I was worried it wasn't included when I bought it, but was happily surprised to find out it did.
