I bought this product and have been able to produce from freshly ground beans a delightful flavor surpassing that of stackbucks and with the purchase of GSP I'm confident I will be saving money with this purchase
OK - so, I was comparing this to a Via Veneto and a Gaggia Baby and found certain features that did not measure up. WAS I EVER WRONG.
This bad boy is an amazing piece of kit for the price. My wife makes lattes, I'm into Americano(e)s. This does both with style. Let the machine warm up, turn the knob left, and let it run until it turns itself off, then turn the knob upright.
If you are into Americano(e)s, take the cup off the drip tray, and put it under the spout, press the button for water. Let'er run until you have the amount you need.
If you are into Lattes/Cappucinos (well, more lattes), get your milk into a wee jug, turn the knob to the right (with a little cup under it to catch any water), when the steam starts to happen, froth your milk and poof.
(did I mention I only gave this a 3 a month ago - and that I was wrong?)
OK - I wrote a review saying I wasn't impressed, well, the issue wasn't the machine, it was me.
The machine is very different from what I have used before (Gaggia Classic, Via Veneto). There is no knob to control the amount of steam, you get the pressure Breville wants you to have. Although I am not thrilled, it works fine.
The machine is noisier than my previous two, but it isn't waking anyone up, so I guess it's all good :)
I'm not convinced I would replace this one with the same model, but, it does make good coffee, and for the moment, that's good enough for me.
I come to this one after owning a Gaggia and a Saeco, not impressed.
The steamer is sub par. Once you turn it to steam, it takes a bit to warm up so you either get water in the milk, or you let it steam up, then have to turn it off in order to put the milk under the want. It should have a way of saying, "warm to steam" without opening the steam spout.
It is NOISY!
I purchased this during the boxing day sale, it was an upgrade from my Breville K Cup. In the past I had a different brand of espresso machine which disappointed in performance. When it came to replacement I went with Breville as a natural choice, every product in my kitchen is a Breville. The brand has never disappointed me in build or performance. This machine is no different as it delivers a perfect beverage every time. My only comment is the steamer just seems to be longer than one would expect it to take, but that wait is worth it as it does steam to perfection. My one frustration about reading other Breville reviews, is seeing negatives which clearly have resulted from "not" reading the instructions or familiarizing themselves with the product functions before use.
Absolutely love this machine! It was delivered super fast, easy to learn and great quality. The only minor complaint is the labels came in French and there were no English labels. I still love it though and I'm saving money!
I'm very satisfied with this machine .
Nothing negative all positive.
Well made .
We bought this machine on sale, expecting great espresso.
The shots were sour and bitter, not at all like rich creamy delicious Italian espresso. We went to the Breville troubleshooting site and followed instructions:
We measured the temperature of the water coming out of the grouphead after heating up and purging: it was only around 77Celcius instead of the required 93Celcius. According to Breville's website, variation can be between 90.5Celcius and 96Celcius, so 77 Celcius was way to low to make a delicious Italian espresso.
Even with extended attemps at purging and running water through the grouphead, we were only able to get the temperature up to 83 Celcius maximum, then the temperature would go down, inspite of Breville's PID, which is supposed to keep the temperature even.
We exchanged the Duo Temp Pro but the second Duo Temp Pro surprisingly had the same temperature problem.
We didn't want to give up this great deal on sale, so enquired at the local Breville repair centre in Vancouver. We were told that this is an entry level machine and such temperature variations are to be expected. We were also told to invest in a more expensive Breville in order to eliminate this problem.
Rather disappointed in the quality control.
Everything I was looking for. Easy to clean and good quality. Works very well. The knobs feel nice, not cheap like lesser models. I'm happy with it.
I am a bit of a latte snob however I've never operated an espresso machine before. The crema produced with this little machine is AMAZING! All the features of this machine are not what I would have expected given the price point (we also got ours on sale). It is super easy to use and I've been able to make better lattes than what I've gotten at most of the major coffee chains. The only tool I think would be great to add would be a thermometer for the milk. The steam/water function also is a bit weak but given the price point I can't really complain. Just takes a little longer to fill an Americano. All in all a great starter machine and perfect for our office of four people and I will get one for home too.
This is my first espresso machine and I love it! Defiantly an art to making good coffee but I'm loving the challenge and learning all about it. Highly recommend this to anyone who wants a great quality machine that's easy to use and clean!
It has PID and pre-infusion. Many much more expensive machines out there do not have these features or have them as an upgrade.
Very easy to make a good cappucinno and clean up is easy too. The machine comes with water proof pamphlet / quick guide on how to make espresso + cleanup which I found very useful.
By now i've gradualted to the single wall filter. I like having an option of starting out with the included double wall filters to build up confidence before plunging into the more delicate art of espresso making.
Some higher end models from Breville, like the Infuser, have programmable this and that but I like to stick to basics and not pay for stuff I will hardly use.
I've been using this machine for a few weeks and it is excellent. It consistently produces quality espresso. It looks good on the counter. Once you get on to the after use cleaning it is no hassle (probably a process which must be done with any espresso machine). Steam wand works great. Comes with everything you need to maintain the machine and handy, waterproof, quick start instructions. All parts look and feel of quality construction. It certainly does not disappoint, the parts which dictate the quality of the espresso are likely on par or close to those of more expensive machines.
After a week of adjusting my grind and extraction, now my espresso is better and more consistent. I haven't tried other espresso machine so I can't compare, but this machine is solidly built, very easy to use. So i would only give it a 4 (since this is my first ever espresso machine) and would recommend it to others.
The only advice is don't use the finest grind, the water wont get through.
I did a bit of research before purchasing the Dual-Temp Pro and am very pleased with the purchase. The espresso is fantastic and the milk steamer works perfectly. Smartly compact with hidden storage drawer and heated cup shelf on top - I am very pleased. Highly recommend.
Just purchased this during the Christmas holidays, would have no problem paying full price - very easy to use, instructions are very clear. First latte was OK, subsequent ones fantastic once I got the steaming of the milk process down. Using the dual wall filter produced a great crema and taste.
Easy to clean, takes up very little counter space. Makes far better espresso/lattes than the much more expensive Saeco Talea Plus super-automatic (aka the maintenance nightmare machine) I just replaced. I'm currently using pre-ground espresso but will soon get a grinder and experiment with different beans.
