Sturmgeschützabteilung was the first to deploy these escort troops, armed with the revolutionary StG44 assault rifleâthe worldâs first true assault rifle to see combat. Flexible in their role, the escorts could ride with their vehicles or dismount to fight independently depending on the tactical situation.
