The Nikon D5300 DSLR Camera features a DX-format 24.2 megapixel sensor and EXPEED 4 image processor to produce high-resolution still imagery and full HD video with notable low-light sensitivity to ISO 12800 and a fast continuous shooting rate of 5 fps. The sensor design omits the traditional optical low-pass filter in order to gain the utmost sharpness and resolution from both photos and videos. Complementing the imaging assets are both a versatile 39-point autofocus system, with nine cross-type sensors, and a 2,016-pixel RGB sensor for precise exposure metering in a wide variety of lighting conditions. Additionally, 1920 x 1080p movie recording is supported, in multiple frame rates up to 60 fps, with full-time continuous auto focusing capabilities. The compact, yet durably designed, camera body incorporates both an optical pentamirror optical viewfinder along with a large 3.2 1,037k-dot vari-angle LCD monitor, which features a 180° swivel design to better support working from high and low angles. Also integrated into the D5300 are both Wi-Fi and GPS modules, which enable advanced image sharing capabilities as well as location-based image tagging. When paired with an Android or iOS mobile device, remote viewing and control over the shutter release is possible from a distance and a vast network of pre-populated Points of Interest adds to the overall geotagging functionality. For creatively enhancing the look and feel of imagery in-camera, a wide range of Picture Control modes, Scene Modes, and Special Effects modes are available as well as a host of in-camera image editing capabilities for adjusting settings prior to sharing. Built-in HDR and Active D-Lighting modes can also be used to optimize exposure results by preserving highlight and shadow details for an extended range of apparent tones.Included with the D5300 body is the wide-angle to telephoto zoom AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens, which features VR image stabilization to minimize camera shake to suit working in dimly-lit conditions and with longer focal lengths. One aspherical element and one extra-low dispersion element are integrated into the lens design to minimize aberrations and optimize image sharpness and an SWM autofocus mechanism is used to acquire focus quickly, silently, and accurately.D5300 DSLR Camera (Body Only, Black)The Nikon D5300 DSLR Camera features a DX-format 24.2 megapixel sensor and EXPEED 4 image processor to produce high-resolution still imagery and full HD video with notable low-light sensitivity to ISO 12800 and a fast continuous shooting rate of 5 fps. The 24.2 megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor and EXPEED 4 processor work together to produce overall high image quality with notable detail, dynamic range, color accuracy, and low-light sensitivity to a native ISO 12800, which is further expandable to ISO 25600. Additionally, the sensors design omits an optical low-pass filter in order to acquire the greatest amount sharpness and detail from subjects. The EXPEED 4 processor also enables a wealth of speed throughout the camera system, including support for full HD 1080p movie recording and a full-resolution continuous shooting rate of 5 fps.

Multi-CAM 4800DX Autofocus Sensor

Benefitting the high image quality is an apt AF system that employs 39 distinct AF points, including nine cross-type sensors, to quickly acquire focus in a range of lighting conditions, from -1 to +19 EV. A unique 3D-tracking mode utilizes the 2,016-pixel RGB sensor, typically reserved for exposure metering, in order to maintain sharp focus on moving subjects. To better suit specific subject matter when working in AF-A or AF-C focus modes, Dynamic-area AF mode allows you to choose from 9, 21, or 39-point arrays for enhanced subject tracking and recognition, even if the subject briefly leaves the frame. Single-point AF, 3D-tracking, and Auto-area AF modes are also available.

When working in live view, for either still or movie shooting, a contrast-based AF system is employed to acquire focus precisely and can function in continuous, full-time servo mode to better suit working with moving subjects. Additionally, four AF-area modes are available when working in live view: Face-priority AF, Wide-area AF, Normal-area AF, and Subject-tracking AF.

Wi-Fi and GPS Connectivity

Supporting a wealth of sharing and tagging possibilities, the D5300 features built-in Wi-Fi and GPS modules to enable seamless transferring of imagery as well as geotagging functionality. Once the Nikon Wireless Mobile Utility app has been installed on an Android or iOS mobile device, you can use that device to browse the contents of the memory card, select images, and seamlessly transfer files between devices for immediate sharing online. Additionally, the mobile device can remotely trigger the shutter and display a live view image from the camera to enable working from a distance.

The integrated GPS functionality can be used to assign locational data to all image files for geotagging purposes and for plotting imagery to an interactive map. Points of Interest can also be found using this information to further aid in efficient location-based tagging.

Body Design

Even while maintaining an overall compact form-factor, the D5300 integrates a large 3.2 1,037k-dot vari-angle LCD monitor, which features a 180° swivel design to better suit working from high, low, and front-facing angles. Alternatively, a bright pentamirror optical viewfinder is also integrated into the design for precise eye-level viewing and real-time monitoring of subjects.

A built-in pop-up flash is also available for additional illumination when working in low-light conditions and supports Nikons i-TTL flash metering system. A hot shoe can be used, too, for connection and optional external flash for even greater lighting control.

  • Love this camera!
    Reviewed by nikonlover - June 23, 2015

I upgraded from a Nikon D3200 and this camera fit the bill! Fantastic lens. I love how I no longer have to carry around two lenses because this one does the job. I was leaning towards a Canon T5i but I'm beyond thrilled that I spent the extra money for the wifi and stuck with Nikon. It makes sharing photos with family and friends so easy and quick, I don't even bring out my computer anymore. Fantastic camera and very easy to use, love all the features.

  • D5300 convinced me to leave Canon after 25 years
    Reviewed by WebsiteauthorDallas - October 17, 2014

I've been a Canon user for more than 25 years, going back to the 35mm days and up through the whole DSLR revolution. I own multiple Canon lenses and accessories and I've taken literally hundreds of thousands of shots with Canons. After shooting the D5300, I am selling off my Canon gear and going Nikon. The camera feels solid and durable. Its weight is comparable to the Canon 4Ti (one of my previous issues with Nikons was their weight#. Ergonomically I prefer the Canon to the D5300 #particularly the right side# but the difference is minor . . . the D5300 just feels much better to shoot. The real difference for me is the metering and focus. The D5300 has 39 metering points compared to the 4Ti's nine . . . what a huge difference that makes. I find that I am compensating on exposure FAR less with the Nikon than I ever had to with the Canon, and the focus gets fooled very rarely. More accurate RAW images means less post-processing and fewer bad shots, and it didn't take long for me to see the difference. The lens that came with this kit is the 18-140, which is a terrific range for the vast majority of your shooting situations. The Nikon's 1.5 magnification factor is a little better than the Canon's 1.6 so your lower end isn't as badly affected. And the lens has the same quality feel and function as the camera. It takes beautiful shots, clear and sharp. I also added the Sigma 10-20 lens and the Nikon 55-300 to give me the full range I need. Both of the lenses work very well #55-300 does have significant vignetting) and both were remarkably affordable - another of my gripes with Nikon is the cost of lenses, but that isn't necessarily the case any more. The bottom line - the Nikon D5300 takes wonderful shots with accurate metering and focus, and it just feels like a better quality camera. The difference between the D5300 and the Canon 4Ti is so significant that I'm abandoning a quarter century of brand loyalty and a half dozen lenses to make the switch. THAT should tell you something.

  • Excellent Camera - bought 2
Verified BuyerReviewed by TexasMusicLover - January 10, 2015

We purchased this camera for ourselves 6 months ago and loved it. We took it on our trip to Alaska and it worked beautifully. My husband owns a Nikon D80 with a 18-200 lens and a 55-300 lens. My D5300 was excellent for almost all of our shots. We used the 55-300 to get the whale shots. Last fall, our daughter asked to use our camera to take pictures of their son playing soccer. They loved the camera so much, particularly the 18-140 lens so it could zoom to catch closer shots. They requested it as their Christmas gift from us so this was our second purchase of this camera. It is an outstanding camera and value. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high quality DSLR camera.

  • Awesome product
Verified BuyerReviewed by Customer - May 12, 2015

I am a beginner and could not have expected any thing better to start with. The settings are very simple to understand and you will quickly learn how to make changes. With my recommendation already 2 friends bought it and are equally happy with the quality. Icing over the cake is its wifi feature, you can connect your phone, view it on your phone and then click the picture. Gone are the days when you had to set a timer and run to pose along with your friends or family. Definitely recommend this product.
